Travel Day 3: I MADE IT! From Toulouse to Agen, to Condom, to Gondrin, France // 018
After a 13-hour plus overnight delay on my second day of travel, I finally can leave Toulouse to head to the small rural town of Gondrin, where I'll be staying on a vineyard for 4 weeks.
After getting the expected rip-off from a taxi to bring me to the train station in Toulouse (30 Euros!), I bought a ticket to Agen and spent the next hour wondering which numbers on my ticket told me which train I needed to be on. Thankfully, about a minute before my train took off, some nice man told me that 1B is on the totally opposite site of the tracks than I was on. Following the guy running in front of me, I jumped on the train about fifteen seconds before it pulled out of the station. About ten minutes into the ride, I realized I was in first class, and kept waiting for a train staff member to pick up by my shirt and toss me off like a cartoon.
No worries, no one even glanced in my direction, let alone at my ticket. I arrived in Agen with over four hours before I needed to catch my bus to Condom, France. I asked the woman near the sign that said gare routiere, (meaning, I hoped, bus station), if there was a bus going to Condom here.
I said Condom? She said not here, in a mix of french words. Sure I was in the right place, I asked, Condom, oui? Or Condom, no? She shook her head and frowned. Eventually, after looking at every sight and google map I could find to see where there might be another bus station in Agen, I realized she meant I couldn't BUY the ticket there. About four hours later, I bought the ticket after I got on the bus.
While I waited in Agen, I decided to trek up a nearby hill with beautiful houses spotted along it. The videos barely so the sights justice. It was more beautiful than I expected. A great spontaneous adventure!
In Condom, I immediately was picked up by Keith, one of the hosts I'm staying with in Gondrin. I was so thankful he spoke English that we chatted along the whole 20-30 minute drive up to the vineyard.
Once on the vineyard, about 7:45pm, June 28th, I was shown the cute caravan/trailer/camper I'd be staying in, and told to get comfortable while they finished up dinner. Soon we all sat down to a beautiful dinner that only Keith would call a quick whip-up, and I told them about the exhausting 50 hours of travel I was so happy to have finished!

360° views of France : Today a walk in Condom
Today a new 360° view of france !!
A 360° immersive walk in Condom.
Capital of Armagnac, former episcopal city and sub-prefecture, the welcoming little town of Condom, located in the heart of Gascony, on the banks of the Baïse, offers visitors a rich built heritage. Witness its elegant 18th century private mansions, such as those of Polignac and Cugnac, its former 16th century Saint-Pierre cathedral, and its superb cloister in Flamboyant Gothic style.
The Way in France - Le Chemin de Compostelle - From Condom to Roncesvalles
Join Spanish Steps, as we follow in the footsteps of the first non-Spanish pilgrim, the 10th century Bishop of Le Puy, Godescalc, along the Via Podiensis from Le Puy en Velay to Roncesvalles in Spain. We break this celebrated trail into three 2-week sections but for the first time ever, to celebrate the Holy Year of Saint James, we are offering the chance to walk the entire way. EFI. Come walk with us from the headwaters of the mighty Loire, deep in the Auvergne, to the frontier mountain range of the Pyrenees and into Spain, as we reveal the legends of this century trodden path. Bon Chemin!
Condom-en-Armagnac to Roncesvalles: if you haven’t had enough walking then continue on with us through the gloriously gentle Gers, known as the French Tuscany, with endless vineyards, beaming faces of sunflowers turning to the golden rays of summer and swathes of swaying sheaves of corn. Here the best of local gastronomy will dance on your palate with zippy, playful white wines, silken Armagnac, croustade de pommes, foie gras, confit de canard, and the best of freshly harvested vegetables you can imagine. You’ll never want to leave.
But westward-ho, the enchanting towns of Les Landes and Béarn await our arrival: the oldest bastide village of Pimbo, important market and pilgrim towns of Nogaro and Aire-sur-l’Adour, Arthez with its panoramic vistas of the Pyrenees, the tiny 11th-century church of St James at Sensacq and the walled town of Navarrenx, home to Béarnais sauce and Frances’ best salmon.
Last, but by no means least, we delve into the foothills of the Pyrenees, deep into rich pastoral Basque country; land of brébis (sheep cheese), cider and piment d’esplette. Here the three major pilgrim routes in France come together. The bleat of sheep and clanging of cowbells accompany us as we climb steadily to St Jean Pied de Port, a quintessential Basque town at the base of Napoleon’s Pass. A final push over the mountains into Spain, and the culmination of 2 (4 or 6) weeks of walking. Our heartbeats will intensify, and our legs will burn but our spirits will soar. For many, crossing the Pyrenees is the beginning of their Camino, but for us, arriving into Roncesvalles, Spain, is our FINALE and that very first cerveza will be well-earned nectar indeed.

Roadtrip discovering hidden gems in France & Spain
We went on a roadtrip through South west France and discovered two hidden gems on our way to the Basque country and Spain before heading back up to the Atlantic coast of France in The Landes departement.
First we went to Condom then discovered the first hidden gem, just 5 km outside - Laressangle (The little Carcassonne - and you can see why it has this knickname).
Then furtehr into The Gers department where we discovered a 2nd hidden gem at Simorre, before heading off for some delicious tapas and seafood in Spain.
The last part of this little roadtrip in the van is back at one of my favourite parts of France, The Atlantic coast of South West France.
It's amazing to find so many places that, when you look the up on Internet, there is hardly any information about them and the Wiki pages are empty - hidden France, don't you just love it and there is so much out there to discover.
French Pyrenees Mountains ~ Singing & Dancing | Episode.10 | Cauterets France Travel Vlog 2021
In this episode we drive south into the Pyrenees Mountains to the spa and ski town of Cauterets. We decided that it was the perfect day for a hike through the Pyrenees National Park. So we started our 6 mile hike at la fruitiere and climed up the mountain to a beautiful lake named le lac d’estom. There was a refuge on the top where it was chilly enough to enjoy a hot chocolate. The best part was that it was sunny on the way up and foggy on the way down. So even though we followed the same path, it was two different experiences!
Make sure to stick around because in the next episode we go mountain biking, explore Lourdes and the Point d’Espagne!
