Living ALONE on Yemen's Remote Socotra Island
Socotra is hands-down one of the most epic places I've been to. On my recent trip to this Yemeni island with Welcome to Socotra, I spent an unforgettable 2 weeks camping, hiking, swimming and exploring.
In Socotra, on a remote beach, I met a modern-day Robinson Crusoe. This man lives alone, isolated from the rest of the world, and I want to tell you about his life.

I Lost My Heart to Socotra Island | YEMEN 2019 | Trailer
Wow, I still can't believe it. My dream came true. I got to visit the mysterious Socotra Island in Yemen: it's a prehistoric landscape, filled with numerous endemic species of trees and animals you can only find here and nowhere else on Earth.
Because of its remoteness, and then because of the conflict in Yemen, Socotra has been off-limits to the vast majority of tourists. But I made it ????
Thank you, Welcome to Socotra, for being my perfect hosts and guides to this unforgettable island.

I TRAVELED TO ONE OF THE WORLDS´ REMOTEST ISLANDS - GETTING TO SOCOTRA
In this video I bring you along the journey of getting to one of the world´s remotests islands, Socotra, located off the southern coast of Yemen. To get here I had to travel by bus from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, where I had some time to explore the Grand Mosque. It was then time to head to the airport and catch the flight to Socotra.

I am Grace on Tour and travel has been my biggest passion ever since I can remember. My very first international trip was done two weeks after I was born. In the summer of 2018 I started posting on this channel as I set off on a trip around Asia before studying a semester in Taiwan. During this time my love for travel grew and I tried to travel to new places during my weekends off from university. Throughout uni I made travel a priority and worked multiple side jobs to fund my travels. After doing my thesis in Hong Kong I graduated in June 2019. At this point I decided to take a gap year and go traveling. My goal was to visit as many countries as possible. I soon realized that travel is what I love and wan´t to keep on doing. I now dream of visiting every country in the world.

Discover the Yemeni Galápagos with us on this next-level adventure, made possible by our bespoke luxury camps.
Earlier this year, the Africa Editor of the Financial Times – David Pilling – accompanied Henry Cookson on an in-depth recce to this extraordinary island. Together, they soared over the coastline in gyrocopters, immersed themselves in the unique local culture and hiked through deep wadis in search of the island’s endemic wildlife and flora.

A TRIP OF A LIFETIME - Dragoon Forest and city life on Socotra
A trip of a lifetime, that is what this trip to Socotra has been. In last and final video from Socotra I bring you along for our last days on the island. We drove inland and headed up in the mountains, where we visited the dragoon forest, went swimming in a wadi and had our lunch under a dragoon blood tree. We watched the sunrise and went in to Hadibo, which is the capital city of Socotra. There we got a glimpse of every day life on the island. The last night was spent at Di Hamri which was where we also spent our first night on the trip. The next day it was time to head back to the airport and fly back to Abu Dhabi. When we arrived we said goodbye to our group and parted our separate ways. This truly was an amazing trip and it was all thanks to the trip organizer Welcome to Socotra and the group of wonderful people who I spent the week with. I will cherish this trip in my heart forever.

Hiking Alone on a Yemeni Island (+Accident...)
On today's mini adventure, I hike alone in the mountains nearby the lagoon where our camp is located.

Please note: I arrived on the island a few days before COVID-19 travel bans kicked in around the world. Given the choice between travelling to another country across several international airports, and potentially becoming infected, VS staying, healthy, on the Coronavirus-FREE island… I decided to stay.
Riding a Motorbike as a Woman in Yemen (SOLO!)
This is WEEK 7 of my quarantine here on Socotra Island in Yemen. Since we have freedom of movement here (due to the absence of Coronavirus on the island), I decided to buy a motorbike and head into the mountains for the first time ????????

Hadibo, Socotra Island, Yemen - Scene Documentary Socotra: The Hidden Land

Scene of the Documentary film of Socotra Island.
Title: Socotra: The Hidden Land
Genre: Documentary Film
Running time: 52 min
Year: 2015
Location: Socotra, Yemen
Watch the full documentary on:
The ancient beliefs and customs of the remote island of Socotra went unchanged for centuries, hidden from the eyes of the world. Yet now, in the face of global change, its people have the chance to redefine and improve their lives. This is the story of how the island of Socotra is emerging from its isolation.
The documentary tells the story of an extraordinary lost land, the island of Socotra, Yemen, whose ancient beliefs and lifestyles remained unchanged for centuries. Every step you take on Socotra is a discovery. To move through its coastal areas and unique landscapes, is to cross a frontier in time, on an amazing journey that can be made only once, as the experience the next time will be quite different.
The viewer is taken on one such journey, revealing the beauty and the striking strangeness of the island, showing the physical reality of Socotra and how it has shaped the islanders’ lives over the centuries.
The documentary is a reflection of the life and customs of this isolated society of the island of Socotra located in Yemen, told by some of the most remarkable characters on the island, who use their own words, and their own traditional tales, beliefs and ways of life, to tell us about their spirit, their future and their daily struggle to preserve their traditions in the face of globalization.
The future of the island is uncertain. For one hand there is an increasing interest of many travelers to visit Socotra island, not only for its unique ecosystem and beauty, also because of is a good place for adventure sport such us climb, surf, kitesurf or fishing. But the instability of the political situation makes many tourists to not travel to Socotra. There is also a military interest because the island could be a strategic location to do a military base in the Middle East.

Nobody Talks About THIS Saudi Arabia (FAIRYTALE VILLAGE)
Rijal Almaa: better known as the Gingerbread Village of Saudi Arabia ???? I venture out to the mountains of the Aseer region with a couple of friends and drive down some crazy mountain roads in order to reach this super charming spot. It's straight out of a fairytale!

I Spent 24H on an Uninhabited Island (Rat-Infested)
In April, I got a chance to go on a trip to the uninhabited island of Darsa as part of my stay in Socotra. We had heard all sorts of myths and legends about this place: the most prominent being that it’s got a sizeable population of rats. We packed light because we treated the trip as a short, initial reconnaissance of the island, to evaluate potential tourism options here in the future! Between friends - it was far from what you'd get on a properly organised, commercial experience ????
I’d like to thank my friends Abdullah, Nicola ( and Nicolo ( who organise proper tours of this gorgeous island with their locally-run experiences.
This video is being published with a delay of over 2 months - things have been busy ;)
