In this video I'm in Naples, in Italy's stunning Campania region. I delve into this beautiful, chaotic city to discover what makes up the unique Neapolitan culture. I also go on a delicious street food tour to try Naples's famous fried food and get to know some of the friendly locals. Naples is an ancient city with a rich history which has resulted in a very unique culture, and in my opinion it's one of Italy’s most authentic cities!

Places to see in ( Naples - Italy ) National Archaeological Museum of Naples
Places to see in ( Naples - Italy ) National Archaeological Museum of Naples
The National Archaeological Museum of Naples is an important Italian archaeological museum, particularly for ancient Roman remains. Its collection includes works from Greek, Roman and Renaissance times, and especially Roman artifacts from nearby Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum. It was formerly the Real Museo Borbonico (royal Bourbon museum).
The building was built as a cavalry barracks in 1585. From 1616 to 1777 it was the seat of the University of Naples. During the 19th century, after it became museum, it suffered many changes to the main structure. The museum hosts extensive collections of Greek and Roman antiquities. Their core is from the Farnese Collection, which includes a collection of engraved gems (including the Farnese Cup, a Ptolemaic bowl made of sardonyx agate and the most famous piece in the Treasure of the Magnificent, and is founded upon gems collected by Cosimo de' Medici and Lorenzo il Magnifico in the 15th century) and the Farnese Marbles. Among the notable works found in the museum are the Herculaneum papyri, carbonized by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, found after 1752 in Villa of the Papyri.
The greater part of the museum's classical sculpture collection largely comes from the Farnese Marbles, important since they include Roman copies of classical Greek sculpture, which are in many cases the only surviving indications of what the lost works by ancient Greek sculptors such as Calamis, Kritios and Nesiotes looked like. Many of these works, especially the larger ones, have been moved to the Museo di Capodimonte for display in recent years.
The Secret Cabinet (Gabbinete) or Secret Room is the name the Bourbon Monarchy gave the private rooms in which they held their fairly extensive collection of erotic or sexual items, mostly deriving from excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Access was limited to only persons of mature age and known morals. The rooms were also called Cabinets of matters reserved or obscene or pornographic.
The museum's Mosaic Collection includes a number of important mosaics recovered from the ruins of Pompeii and the other Vesuvian cities. This includes the Alexander Mosaic, dating from circa 100 BC, originally from the House of the Faun in Pompeii.

Time Lapse - Anfiteatro Campano (Santa Maria Capua Vetere - Italy)
Campania Amphitheatre (Anfiteatro Campano) in Santa Maria Capua Vetere was the second largest amphitheatre in Ancient Rome after the Colosseum. At its zenith, Campania Amphitheatre would have been a grand four-tiered structure able to seat up to 60,000 people and adorned with beautiful monuments from columns to sculptures.
Located in the city of Capua, which was at one time possibly the largest city in Italy, the remaining Campania Amphitheatre was the second amphitheatre to be built on the site. Started by the Emperor Nerva and continued by Trajan and Hadrian, it was completed in 138 AD.
Unfortunately, much of the Campania Amphitheatre has been destroyed over the years, ravaged by the Visigoths, the Vandals and the Saracens. Externally, only the first level and part of the second tier of Campania Amphitheatre survive. However, there is still much to see at the site, including subterranean tunnels showing the workings of the amphitheatre.
ITALIAN BREAKFAST AT THE BAR - HOW TO ORDER YOUR COFFEE - HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH ITALIANS
Watch the video to learn why the bar run by Serena and her husband Gianluca is so special. Guess where this bar/café is.
We have known Serena and Gianluca for nearly twenty years since they started their venture and it is our favourite bar in the area but also a pit stop between Lucca and Bagni di Lucca.
Italians love to have their breakfast in a bar and often frequent the same bar years after year. In this video we discuss how Italians order their breakfast and what is available in the café. A bar is a great place to make friends and practice your Italian.
Serena and Gianluca's café also serves great and (big) lunches for the local workforce. They employ a cook and a baker who makes fresh bread, pizza, focaccia and tarts everyday.
Join us and discover the secrets of an Italian coffee and local bars.
We love this café but we are not sponsored by them.

Campiglia e Massa Marittima 2003
Remarkable how different peoples' perceptions are, regarding newly discovered places. Earlier conversation with a youngish couple of travelers gushed over the wonders of Massa Marittima, saying of humble Campiglia, Well, you might enjoy it, too (since tastes vary and we don't want to say anything negative). For us the real charmer was Campiglia. Sleepy, small: a three-wheeled Piaggio delivery truck carts major appliances up the shallow-stepped roadways. Yes, steps - these roads are intended for walking. A floral-aproned, sunny gardener, eager to show Michele her raised bed crops, in the process proves that indeed Italian is very like Spanish. For us the test of a hill town is whether we would pursue a second visit, maybe even a third. Campiglia, definitely yes. My memory of Massa Marittima, is of a twilight town. As in Rod Serling's Twilight Zone series from the 60's? I think so, in that a) it was pastel tinted evening when we actually began to explore; and b) the Passeggiata began to issue forth, with a notably ample serving of senior citizens. In what is arguably the mellowest part of any day, this is the gracious custom of enjoying fellowship with friends old and new (but the older ones are more satisfying) after the workday has been put aside for the night. Makes one look forward to getting a little older in such a place, with such friends.
