Yueyang Tower (simplified Chinese: 岳阳楼; traditional Chinese: 岳陽樓; pinyin: Yuèyáng Lóu) is an ancient Chinese tower in Yueyang, Hunan Province, on the shore of Lake Dongting. Alongside the Pavilion of Prince Teng and Yellow Crane Tower, it is one of the Three Great Towers of Jiangnan.
Yueyang Tower stands on the east bank of Dongting Lake at the west gate of the cultural ancient city of Yueyang, Hunan Province. With a history of more than 1,700 years, it is one of China’s most famous tourist destinations.
Due to the unique architectural style of Yueyang Tower, numerous literati wrote a large number of popular poems about it, Fan Zhongyan's eternal heroic essay The Story of Yueyang Tower contains the literary classics of the Northern Song Dynasty's perishing code, propelling it to fame
Yueyang Tower faces the vast Dongting Lake in the west and the rushing Yangtze River in the north. The tower and the water contrast finely with each other. For the creation of its roof, a helmet-style structure was adopted, making it look like an ancient general and peerless in the history of ancient Chinese architecture.

Yueyang Tower is an ancient Chinese tower in Yueyang, Hunan Province, on the shore of Lake Dongting. Alongside the Pavilion of Prince Teng and Yellow Crane Tower, it is one of the Three Great Towers of Jiangnan.
The history of Yueyang Tower dates from the Three Kingdoms Period, when Lu Su, commander in chief of the forces of Wu, was sent to the area to fortify it and train the fleet there. To ease the inspection and command of ships he constructed a tower near the strategic location where Lake Dongting joins the Yangtze River, from which the whole of Lake Dongting was visible.
