10 Most Popular Seaside destination in the UK

What are the most popular seaside destination in the UK? The next time you’re planning a vacation, you may consider spending some time in a seaside resort. No, we don’t mean only international tourists and vacationers. We’re catering to the needs of both local and international tourists in the UK. How many seaside destinations did you know? Your time away from home will make a lot of difference and be refreshing, reinvigorating, and rewarding if you spent it in one of the 10 most popular seaside destinations in the UK we’re about to discuss.
One thing stands out in all these, these 10 most popular seaside destinations are among the best seaside resorts in the UK. That means, their popularity is due mainly to their quality. Here we go:
10. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Let’s start our search in Wales. In Pembrokeshire, you’ll find a small city and community known as St Davids. Lying on the River Alun, it is the smallest city in the UK by population and the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
The city has some of the most stunning coastal sceneries in Pembrokeshire. One of the charms of this place is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. The location creates a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere for those who could take their time to visit. There are surf shops and outdoor adventure centers in the shadow of the cathedral at St Davids which offers a gateway to the coastline of the northern stretch.
9. Southwold, Suffolk, England
The next place we’re touching on is Southwold in Suffolk. This ninth on the list of the 10 most popular seaside destinations in the UK is on the English North Sea coast located in the north Suffolk on the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
This town is made popular throughout the year as a tourists attraction by its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Some of its most charming elements include its cozy pub lunches, lone walks along the beach, or a serene browse in any of its many independent shops. You can catch some fun on its famous blue flag beaches sand with your bucket and spade. If you like, you can walk along Southwold pier while marveling at its spectacular views.
8. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Filey, in the Borough of Scarborough, is a beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire. It’s the eighth most popular in the UK. As a fishing village, it was popular among fishers and those partaking in fishing festivals. So, it was expected that one day it would develop into a popular resort, and now the expectation has come true. Its large beach played a big role here.
Like most of the other coastal towns, Filey has benefited immensely from fishing and farming consolidating its local economy. This is also been made possible by its equidistant location between Bridlington and Scarborough which only serves to help fish and foodstuffs trading.

10 Poorest Places in The UK

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

10 Worst Seaside Resort Towns in The UK

What are the worst seaside resorts in the UK? Anyone leaving home to spend some time at a resort is going with high expectations. There are tons of things to do at seaside resorts. However, it’s not all seaside resorts that live up to their designation. Some of them could be better described as anything else but resorts. Some of these pseudo-seaside resorts are there in the UK. We hereby present to you the 10 worst seaside resorts in the UK.
After considering each of them, the choice is yours to patronize them or steer clear of them. These seaside resorts in the UK were rated based on several features that are expected in seaside resorts and they were weighted over 100 points. The following are the scores.
10. Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England
Burnham-on-Sea is a seaside town located in Somerset, England. You would be fair to this place at the mouth of the Parrett River, upon Bridgwater Bay, if you reckon with it as a fishing village or town, for the sake of respect, that it used to be until the late 1700s when it began to grow.
While the park at Burnham-on-Sea was lovely with clean facilities and lots of activities, the resort could not score more than 48 points. The onsite pizza costs too much; you need a 10-minute walk to get a better deal. Most of the accommodation here is caravans without heating in the bedrooms. The bedding quality of the rooms is begging to be upgraded.
9. Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Wales
Colwyn Bay, a town and community in Conwy County Borough cannot escape our attention. Conwy is on the north coast of Wales where it is overlooking the Irish Sea. The town of Colwyn Bay is recognized as a seaside resort within the historic county of Denbighshire, no doubt. But what is in doubt is the quality of the resort. From what we know Colwyn Bay can’t earn more than 58 points.
Yes, the clean rooms, the security, and proximity to the North Wales Expressway, the railway station, and the beach count for something. However, the services were generally poor. The rooms are freezing without a heater and electrical fittings including plumbing were not being maintained. The food options were zero.
8. Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
Then next is Great Yarmouth. Joining them in removing the prefix “great,” let’s comfortably join in referring to it by just Yarmouth which is more fitting than Great Yarmouth. In any case, it is recognized as a seaside resort town in Norfolk, there in England. Straddling the River Yare, it is located 30 kilometers east of Norwich.
As a seaside resort, Yarmouth ties with its more neighborly Burnham-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay in Wales to score 58. Though it has sandy beaches and two historic piers, amusement rides, and restaurants, Yarmouth as Norfolk’s flagship beach town is always crammed. Holidaymakers during the summertime suffer disorderliness here as if there are more services than the management could handle in an organized manner.
7. Morecambe, Lancashire, England
Morecambe is a town in the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. It’s hard to understand why Morecambe is still being referred to as a seaside resort. Up until the mid-20th century, it was a thriving seaside resort. Then it was home to the country’s largest Pontins resort.

Cleethorpes Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】

Located in the county of North East Lincolnshire, around 150 miles north of London and just next door to Grimsby, is the town of Cleethorpes.

The name 'Cleethorpes' literally means 'clay hamlets' ('thorpe' being an old Norse word for hamlet - a common suffix among Lincolnshire villages and towns of today). Like many seaside towns, it started life as a tiny fishing village with a population of less than 300 up until the first census of 1801.

The first developments of Cleethorpes transforming into a seaside resort occurred in the 1820s. Sea bathing for medicinal reasons was becoming fashionable in late Georgian England. The town's growth accelerated significantly during Queen Victoria's reign. In the 1840s the first railway connection arrived in Cleethorpes. With this came an influx of tourists who were now able to make day trips to the coast.

In 1873 Cleethorpes Pier opened. It was built by heavy industrial firm Head Wrightson at a cost of £8000. Originally the pier was 370 metres/1200 feet long. However, a section was cut out during the Second World War to help prevent it from being used in a German invasion attempt. The present-day pier is 102 metres/335 feet long.

In 1885 Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway built a mile-long promenade to prevent continuing coastal erosion of the cliffs. This included Ross Castle - a mock ruin of a castle, named after Edward Ross, secretary of the railway company.

In 1899, Blundell Park opened. Situated just north of the promenade, this has been home to Grimsby Town Football Club ever since. This is despite Cleethorpes being an entirely separate town to Grimsby, albeit located just next to it in a continuous stretch of urban development.

With family activities including mini golf, arcades and donkey rides as well as the beach itself, Cleethorpes receives millions of visitors every year.

We were asked to film Cleethorpes seafront to show our viewers what's open in Cleethorpes after lockdown, and to see what's happening, if the amusements are open, if the pier and beach are open and to look at how Cleethorpes is doing so here we are!

Cleethorpes 2020 has been very different to years before it for obvious reasons, so we thought with lockdown easing that it would be good to film a virtual walk walking tour along Cleethorpes Promenade so you can see how it is today.

Along the way we take a look at all the Cleethorpes amusements and various Cleethorpes attractions as well as the donkey rides, the road train, and the various pubs, shops, food stalls and of course Cleethorpes fairground and funfair.

As you can see Cleethorpes beach is very much open and as popular as it always is, and pretty much all of Cleethorpes seafront is open for business again and back up and running.

If you're planning a holiday in the summer sunshine, to spend time on the beach looking out to sea, or you want to spend time in the amusement arcades then you can take a look at this video and decide for yourself.

It's always great to spend time here wandering along Cleethorpes Promenade and having a gentle walk along with your fish and chips and your seaside rock and just enjoying a fantastic day trip or holiday.

I really enjoyed filming this video to show what's open in Cleethorpes and I really hope you enjoy it too!

CLEETHORPES - Voted one of the WORST seasides in the UK

CLEETHORPES was voted the eighth WORST seaside town in the UK. It is a seaside holiday town near Grimsby on the East Coast of England, with a long beach, pier, amusements and lots more.
Also watch Skegness 👉🏻

We visit Cleethorpes for a walk along the beach and seafront to see what you think of this day trip destination and if Which magazine was right to vote it the eighth worst seaside in the UK!

Have a watch of this walk and let me know what you think. Is this really one of the worst seasides in the UK? Or do you think it has more to offer, nice people, great beach, nice fish and chips, a pier, a lollypop road train, good pubs, good cafes and restaurants, great hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs and more?

You'll find Cleethorpes on the Humber estuary in North East Lincolnshire. It's a fairly small seaside town compared to some of the other seaside walks I've filmed but I think there's still plenty to see and do for a day at the beach.

Build sandcastles, paddle in the sea, take a walk on the pier to Papa's fish and chips restaurant, nip into the seafront cafe for some ice cream or a cup of tea, pop into the amusement arcades and maybe have a game of bingo, or have a browse around Cleethorpes Market.

Cleethorpes train station here is great in that it will take you on your train journey to arrive right at the beach and seafront!

Is this the worst seaside in England? I'll let you decide! Comment below and let me know what you think!
