Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) - Bangkok Bike Tour of Phra Pradaeng (and Lunch)
A Bangkok bike tour of Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) in Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) makes an excellent day trip. Read more of my Bangkok travel tips here:
Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), or the larger area of Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง), is known as Bangkok's green lunch. It's not an island, but it's a section of land that's separated from major Bangkok by being within a horseshoe in the river. The piece of land is just across the river from Bangkok city, but it's such a world of difference. Characterized by trees, green spaces, low homes and neighborhoods, and a network of canals and elevated walking paths creates the perfect environment for a Bangkok bike tour. The first step getting to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) is to first take a taxi to Wat Khlong Toei Nok temple, located in the Khlong Toei area of Bangkok and right along the Chao Phraya river. For just 10 baht you can then board a small boat that will ferry you across the Chao Phraya to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), a whole new world. The ride takes just a few minutes.
Once you've arrived to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), you can then rent a bicycle as soon as you get off the boat. The bikes for rent cost 50 Thai Baht per hour or 100 Thai Baht per day - I think it's worth it to go for the whole day - and you might end up staying longer than you expected - so go for the day rental! After getting out trusty bicycles ready, we started off following the road enroute to the main park that's located within Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า). It took just about 10 minutes or less to reach the designated park where you can enter and ride and walk around for free. The park is nicely maintained and there's a large lake in the middle. But the park is not the only place to ride in Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง). One of my favorite parts of the area is riding along the elevated concrete paths. They are raised above the ground as the ground can be muddy and flooded, but the paths provide an awesome form of transportation. They are just wide enough to have a Bangkok bike tour on them comfortably. Another interesting aspect of biking around are the many temples which are all around. You can stop off at a variety of temples when you're biking along. Also, if you go to Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) on the weekend, you can bike to Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) floating market ( After biking around for a few hours we decided to stop at a relaxing restaurant for some Thai food lunch. There are many Thai restaurants to eat at throughout Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) when you're taking a Bangkok bike tour - you'll have no problem finding food or drinks.
A Bangkok bike tour of Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) and Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) is one of the best things to do in Bangkok! It's a great affordable attraction and offers not only some exercise from all the Thai street food, but also a time to relax and enjoy nature.

Snakehead Fish at Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market - Bangkok Day 4
2 Weeks In Bangkok eBook (it’s FREE):
T-shirts available now:
On Day 4 of this 2 Weeks In Bangkok video guide series we went to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม), which is one of my favorite floating markets in Bangkok - for the food and atmosphere.
00:37 Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) - When it comes to floating markets in Bangkok, and there are quite a few of them, Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) is one of my personal favorites. I love it for the variety and abundance of delicious food, and for the great lush and green atmosphere. Even though it’s still located in Bangkok, the market feels like you’re far removed, and it doesn’t feel like you’re so close to the city. There is a lot of delicious food to eat at the floating market, but one of my favorite things to eat, and something you shouldn’t miss either, is pla chon pao (ปลาช่อนเผา), which is a grilled snakehead fish. Despite it looking a little on the scary side, it’s really an awesome fish, similar in taste to a catfish, but more meaty and not quite as rubbery. It was a really good snakehead fish at the floating market this time - cooked so it was nice and moist. We also ate a plate of goong ob woon sen (กุ้งอบวุ้นเส้น), another excellent Thai seafood dish of mung bean noodles and big freshwater shrimp cooked in a personal pot. After having lunch at the floating market, we then decided to take a boat ride tour, which just costs 50 THB per person, which is a great deal. The boat ride tour was actually quite entertaining and was definitely worth it. If you go to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม), I’d highly recommend the boat tour along with all the delicious food.
16:35 Dinner at Saw Nah Wang (ร้าน ส.หน้าวัง) - After getting back to our hotel near Khao San road, we took a little rest and then headed out for dinner to a restaurant called Saw Nah Wang (ร้าน ส.หน้าวัง). The main dish to eat at this restaurant is pad mee krached ruam (ผัดหมี่กระเฉดรวม), stir fried rice noodles with water mimosa. They make it so well, and it’s always delicious - especially if you like stir fried noodles, it’s a great dish.
16:34 Saphan Phut Market (สะพานพุทธ) - After going to the floating market in the morning, we decided to continue the Bangkok markets at night and we headed to Saphan Phut Market (สะพานพุทธ), which is a Thai youth clothing and hang out market. The market is always lively at night, and tonight was no different. There’s not a lot to do there, but if you’re interested in Thai youth culture, it’s a good place to visit.
21:00 Pak Khlong Talad (ปากคลองตลาด) - Known in Thai as Pak Khlong Talad (ปากคลองตลาด), or as the flower market Bangkok, it’s a giant flower distribution market that’s open 24 hours a day in Bangkok. But the best time to go is at night, and even the best time in around midnight to 3 am or so when the market is at its busiest. We got there around 10 pm and there were still plenty of flowers to see, and it was a good last stop of the night.
Day 4, visiting Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) and eating the snakehead fish, as well as visiting a few other local markets in Bangkok, was another fun day in Bangkok.

Som Tam (ส้มตำ) and Gai Yang (ไก่ย่าง) - The Ultimate Thai Food Combination
Som tam (green papaya salad) and gai yang (grilled chicken), is the ultimate comforting Thai food combination. For more delicious Thai food, click here -
There are all sorts of marvelous Thai dishes to sample when you're in Thailand, but one meal that never gets old and always tastes fantastic is som tam (ส้มตำ) and gai yang (ไก่ย่าง). In English this would translate to green papaya salad and grilled chicken. As you might already know, som tam is one of the most popularly eaten Thai dishes, originating from the Isaan province of Thailand. First the green papaya is shredded and then combined with tomatoes, dried shrimp, crabs, eggplant, garlic, chillies and then pounded up with fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar. The result is a salad that's fresh, crisp, and full of incredible flavor. When it comes to gai yang, there are many different methods of preparation and marinades. Most are quite simple and just marinated in a bit of sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce and garlic before hitting the grill. When the chicken is ready, it's sliced up into pieces, and served along with a chili tamarind sauce. Along with som tam (ส้มตำ) and gai yang (ไก่ย่าง), there's no better accompaniment than a basket full of sticky rice. The rice is eaten in small bite sized pieces, balled up into pieces and dipped into the dressing or dipping sauce from the salad or chicken.
All around Bangkok you'll find mobile Thai street food carts selling som tam (ส้มตำ) and gai yang (ไก่ย่าง), and the freshness can vary, though usually it's fine to eat. There are a few different types of som tam to order. Som tam Thai is the version that includes less fishiness, the dressing mostly just being tamarind water, fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar. If you order som tam boo pla raa, your salad will also include fermented fish sauce. It's a strong flavor, but you just might like it.
At this small roadside stand in the Punnawithi area of Bangkok, everyday at about 11 am they begin to fire up the grills and start roasting the chicken. It can be smelled from kilometers away as the chicken hisses and grills to perfection. It's a simple street food stall and all they offer is a variety of different som tam (ส้มตำ) salads and gai yang (ไก่ย่าง). It was an excellent meal!
When you're in Thailand be sure to enjoy the beautiful combination of som tam (ส้มตำ) and gai yang (ไก่ย่าง).

Join up to channel memberships and send me anywhere to eat!
@globaltravelmate @Chai_Travel
Today I headed over to Bang Krachao, better known as ‘The Green Lungs of Bangkok’ for an amazing bike ride and floating market Thai street food tour. Bang Krachao is one of my favourite places in the whole of Bangkok (it’s actually in Samut Prakan but close enough) to spend a day relaxing. It’s unlike anywhere else you’ll find in Bangkok. Bang Krachao is a giant island in the middle of the chaopraya that’s full of greenery and lovely cycle paths.
My main priority for today was to show the guys a sausage stall called Sai Ua Sai Krok Moo Luan ไส้กรอก ไส้อั่ว หมูล้วน, situated in Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market, which sell some of the best North and Northeast Sausages you’ll find in Bangkok.I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
We then biked for a coffee at the Hidden Woods Cafe which is right on the riverfront with solid coffee and great views.
Here are directions to Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market (only open on weekends)

Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) - A Trip to Bangkok's Inspiring Artist's House
More information about visiting Bangkok's Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน):
Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน), also known as Bangkok's Artist's House or Baan Khlong Bang Luang, is a two hundred year old wooden home in the city. It's located across the Chao Phraya river from much of downtown Bangkok, in an area known as Thonburi, right along one of the main canals. Arriving to Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) is a real throwback in time, it feels like you're far removed from the chaos and clutter of Bangkok and back to how the city was when it first started to be settled and developed. The only reason you know you're still in Bangkok is the obnoxious thundering longtail boats that zoom past every few minutes. The Artist's House is along one of the main tour canals, so it does have a lot of boat traffic - but it's still a great place to visit.
So we arrived to Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) in the early afternoon and after walking around a few of the shops, we then went straight to Bangkok Artist's House and decided to grab lunch. Khao gaeng, or a variety of Thai curries and prepared dishes was on the menu. I chose a bowl mushroom coconut milk curry, bitter melon stuffed with pork, a fried mackerel fish and omelet served with shrimp paste hot sauce, and a plate of rice topped with a fried egg. Sitting on the side of the house with a view of the canal was a memorable way to enjoy a feast. The food was good and the view was excellent.
At 2 pm each day except Wednesday (and occasional off days when the dancers get hired off site for a private event) there's traditional Thai puppet show. The show is one of the main reasons to visit Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) in Bangkok. The performance was very well done and the puppets depicted a story from Hanuman. I was impressed and I would highly recommend the show to anyone who visits Bangkok.
After the Thai traditional puppet show, we had a coffee and sat relaxing at Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) for a few more minutes before heading back to the road and catching a taxi home. Bangkok Artist's House is still an off the beaten track attraction to explore in Bangkok. It's a nicely preserved home and a real fun activity when you visit!
Address: 315 Wat Tong Salangam, Phet Kasem 28, Thanon Phet Kasem, Pa Si Charoen, Bangkok, Thailand 10160
Open Hours: 9 am - 6 pm daily (but no puppet show on Wednesdays, also call ahead to confirm the puppet show)
Phone: 02-868-5279, 089-125-3949 , 081-258-9260
How to get there: If you don't take a longtail boat from the Chao Phraya, the best way to get there is by taking a taxi to Charoen Sanitwong Soi 3. Go all the way to end of the road at the 7-Eleven. Then walk across the footbridge, make a left, and you'll be at Baan Silapin in just a few minutes.
Thai Directions (for Taxi):
จรัญสนิทวงศ์ ซอย.3 เข้าซอยไปสุดซอยจะเจอ 7-11 ลงหน้าเซเว่น เดินเข้าไปในซอยข้างเซเว่น แล้วเดินข้ามสะพานข้ามคลอง แล้วเลี้ยวซ้าย

Phra Padaeng - Bang Nam Phueng
Bang Nam Phueng is located just on the south of Bangkok, on the other side of the river in what is often called the lung of Bangkok (Phra Padaeng).
In this trip I am bringing you early morning to a quick visit of the floating market in there and small roads and park ideal for bicycles.
Before reaching the market, we will also cross the Bhumibol bridge and cross a street market. Note there is also a large number of monks in the streets in the morning. You may notice many thais donating some foods to the monks (often helped by a young assistant) that will provide their blessing in exchange.

Floating Market Bangkok - Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง)
Visit for more travel and food!
There are many floating markets scattered throughout Bangkok. Though markets where vendors sold things directly from their boats in the canals was once a daily life activity, nowadays floating markets in Bangkok are mostly used as a way to escape the annoyance of city life and spend a day relaxing.
One of the coolest markets these days is Talad Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง), a floating market that sets up on the weekends just south of Bangkok in an area called Phra Pradaeng.
Bang Nam Pheung is a wonderful place to spend the day browsing, shopping and of course, eating as much Thai food as possible.
In the course of the video I'll take you on a little tour of the market to give you an idea of what to expect when you go.
I stopped to enjoy a delicious bowl of Thai noodles filled with ivy gourd leaves and also samples a dish of rice topped with smoked oven roasted pork. They food was served from a floating boat, but it was more of a permanent setting - but that was alright!
Gac fruit is very popular at the market and a trip to Bang Nam Pheung floating market (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) wouldn't be complete without purchasing a bottle to sample. Big bottles cost 35 THB while small bottles run 20 THB. I thought it was extremely delicious, a refreshing taste of sweet tomato and papaya.
To get to the floating market you can either take a taxi directly there, or you can go the more adventurous route.
Here are further directions - it's easiest to come this route via Bangkok's Sukhumvit road.
Take a taxi to Wat Bang Na Nawk (วัดบางนานอก) which is a temple which is located on the river.
Take the the ferry boat across the river - it only goes one place and the cost is just 4 THB.
Get on the back of a motorbike taxi and they will take you straight to the doorstep of the floating market. There will be many others taking motorbikes to the market as well, so there's no getting lost. Cost is 10 THB per person.
Opening Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 2 pm, I showed up at about 11 am.
Time: The market is quite large so plan for about 2 - 4 hours of leisure browsing including lunch.

Great Bangkok Street Food in Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market. Thailand
instragram: settime2588
Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market lies around 14.5 km southeast of central Bangkok . It' s a riverside market, with several boats parked along the banks and stalls on solid ground. It's located in an unusual loop of the Chao Phraya River, nicknamed 'the Green Lung of Bangkok'. Despite being quite close to Bangkok, this surprisingly untouched area is covered with vegetation and traditional homes. Rows of low tables are set along the riverbank under a long and thatched roof. Bang Nam Phueng Market is surprisingly authentic as it's mostly frequented by locals.
Just like Khlong Lat Mayom floating market, as soon as you arrive, you’ll immediately be surrounded by little thatch covered stalls selling a wide range of random things. The market is surrounded by lush forest and tropical greenery. Often the foot paths are elevated above water with trees, vines and shrubs all adding to the wonderful atmosphere. You can see some vendors boiling noodles or barbecuing satay’s directly from their boats and you’ll find all kinds of snacks and goods in nicer packaging than what would normally be presented on the streets. The weekend market Bang Nam Pheung is a chance to discover and sample local foods, sweets and unusual fruits. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant and people are very friendly. It's a nice spot for experiencing a village lifestyle.
Thai floating markets ,especially for Bangkok residents, are the perfect way to forget about city life and to escape from work and busy city life for the day – a Thai tourist attraction just on the outskirts of Bangkok.

THAILAND Walking Tour: Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market
Located in Bang Krachao, Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market offers a local vibe where most of the visitors are people from the local communities as well as Thai people in general. The market hasn't been as much advertised to foreigners as other markets like Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa despite its opening since 2004. Being surrounded by a residential neighborhood and located along a small canal, visitors can truly feel the unique lifestyle in Bang Nam Phueng. Visitors can rent a canoe by the side of the market to explore the bigger parts of the canal. It will allow you to see a vivid rainforest as well as local houses along the canal. Bang Nam Phueng also offers art and music activities which make it enjoyable for both tourists and family. Children can enjoy painting plaster figures in the shape of their favorite cartoon characters. Parents and adults can enjoy local live concerts and music playing or simply dive into shopping among various choices of products. Like all floating markets, Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market is famous for its food. There are many types of food in different forms including fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, dried shrimps, ready-to-eat dishes, and fruits. One of the most famous products, though, is mango. Seasonal tropical fruits are available in all different seasons such as rambutan, durian, rose apple, and mangosteen.

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market - Bangkok Thailand 2023
Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง is in Bang Nam Phueng Subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province adjacent to Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nai temple and considered as a part of Bang Kachao, a nice area on a bend of the Chao Phraya River.
The market was inaugurated in 2004 by the local subdistrict authority to help locals move an oversupply of agricultural products. Its vendors limited to people from the community. The market is on a canal surrounded by a residential neighborhood. Products include commercial crops such as fruits and sweets, noodles, processed food, sea shells, dried shrimp, pickled shrimp, desserts, grain cakes, and fruit.
With a seemingly endless variety of snacks and Thai food as well as souvenirs it’s a great place for anyone to visit. Open on the weekends and being very near the center of Bangkok it’s easy to get to and you can make it part of a day trip by visiting other sites like the park in Bang Kachao. I would recommend it to anyone.

learns Bangkok street food tips and secrets from Bangkok's top food blogger, Mark Wiens ( and One of the best things about visiting Bangkok is tasting the variety of Thai street food available.
The best thing about eating in Bangkok is the food is everywhere you look and incredibly delicious. Most of the time, you can't go wrong but if you need a little help telling the difference between Plan chon pao and Khao soy, this video by Bangkok's street food king is a must watch.
Believe me, there's more to Thai food than Pad Thai and Tom Yum Goong.

Thai Desserts - Nam Kang Sai Shaved Ice (น้ำแข็งใส)
Go to for more travel and food!
There are all kinds of Thai desserts, but along with sticky rice and durian (or mango) one of my all time favorites is Thai shaved ice known as nam kang sai (น้ำแข็งใส).
Everyone makes their nam kang sai a little different but the basic dessert includes a choice of candied fruits and other sweet things mixed with sweet syrup and topped with a dollop of crushed ice.
I normally order the mixed shaved ice which in this case included geen noodles, water chestnuts, pieces of jackfruit some sweet potato and a few other candied items. It was then drowned in rich coconut cream and a big pile of coarsely ground ice was placed on the top.
While I'm not always a fan of all Thai desserts, this particular nam kang sai was excellent!
Thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed it.

Siam Bangkok - A Guide of What to Do around Lub d Siam Square
For a map and description of everything to do in Siam, Bangkok, and Lub d Siam Square click this link -
Siam, is one of the most famous and busy areas in all of Bangkok. It's the place to go if you're looking shop until you drop and get the latest in anything you need. I've stayed at Lub d Siam Square a number of times, and I'd definitely say that it's one of the best hostels in Bangkok, in an absolute prime location. I made this video for Lub d Siam Square, but all the information in the video and all everything is my own personal opinion. To begin this video I start at Lub d hostel where I exit and then take a walk across the street to MBK. MBK is a massive shopping center where you can find everything from souvenirs to clothes and electronics. The center is extremely famous for the entire floor of cell phones, both new and used. I didn't actually pick up a new cell phone, but if I really did need one, MBK would be a great place to get one. At MBK, in Siam Bangkok, you'll also find a huge food court with over 40 stalls serving mostly Thai food but also Vietnamese and Indian food.
After MBK, I headed over to Siam Square, which is just across the street from MBK, and opposite Siam Paragon shopping center. Siam Square is a trendy little district of Siam where you'll find all sorts of local Bangkok designer clothes and trinkets. Another highlight of coming to Siam Square is the restaurants. Being quite hungry, I headed over to Som Tam Nua, a popular Bangkok restaurant serving Isan northeastern Thai food. The restaurant is nearly always busy and sometimes, especially if you go on a weekend you'll have to wait your turn. Anyway, if you're looking for good Thai food in Siam Square, head to Som Tam Nua. Siam Paragon and Siam Center are both just across the road and they are each mega shopping centers where you'll find lots of high end designer stores and plenty of restaurants. There's also a Bangkok luxury movie theater including a 4D cinema.
Something I really like about Siam Bangkok is that you'll find quiet areas of the city within busy areas. Slotted in between Paragon and Central World is the Wat Pathum Wanaram, a Siam temple. You can go inside, walk around, and take some photos. It's just amazing that you're still in Siam when you're at the temple. About a 10 minute walk from Siam Square is the Erawan Shrine, a lively Hindu dedicated shrine. This shrine with a lot of history is a popular place for both tourists and Thais to come and seek good luck. You'll also be able to see a Thai dance performance at the Erawan Shrine. Central World is just across the street, and just like the other Siam Bangkok shopping malls, you'll find high end shops and restaurants. Outside of Central World is Trimurti Shrine, another popular shrine dedicated to finding love - can you see the roses!?
Moving on to Pratunam, which is about a 15 minute walk from Lub d Siam Square is Platinum fashion mall. This huge structure is clothing market complex indoors. It's huge and confusing, but if you're looking for Bangkok fashion, this is the place for you. Very close you'll also find Pantip Plaza, your one stop mall for all things electronic. Before heading back to Lub d Siam Square, I then stop by the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, which normally offers free exhibits, to see some of the latest art.
If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in Bangkok that's in a fantastic location, check out Lub d Siam Square. Big thanks to Josh Woodward for contributing the music for this video. Produced by Mark Wiens from Migrationology.com.
