Machame Route, Mt Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Mount Kilimanjaro stands 330 kilometres south of the equator, on the northern boundary of Tanzania. Its location, on an open plain close to the Indian Ocean, and its great size and height strongly influence the climbing conditions. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. It is composed of three extinct volcanoes: Kibo at 5,895 metres (19,340 feet), Mawenzi at 5,149 metres (16,896 feet), and Shira at 3,962 metres (13,000 feet). It is also one of the world's highest free standing mountains, its bulk looming 4,800 metres above an undulating plain that averages around 1,000 metres above sea level. Its long axis lies in a north-west to south-west line for 60 kilometres and, at its widest part, Kilimanjaro is 40 kilometres across.

Kilimanjaro - To the Roof of Africa 14.06.15 - 20.06.15
Hey guys! Last month my family and I travelled to Africa, Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro fundraising for Mustard Seed Project Kenya.
We climbed the scenic Machame route which took us six days and we made this video along the way! It was the toughest but most incredible experience of our lives!

The Machame-Mweka route of Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular, traversing numerous distinctive eco zones ranging from steamy tropical rainforest to arid alpine desert, offering stunning scenery which we hope we have captured adequately in this film! We did the route over 7 days to aid with acclimatisation during the season of the ‘short rains’ in November 2014. This turned out to be a good idea as the weather was actually very good overall and the route much less busy and congested than it would be during peak season, allowing us moments of true solitude. Our GPS recorded the almost 48 kilometres covered by this route and over 5,000m of ascent and descent.
We booked our climb over the internet with a local company based in Moshi (Kilismile) and were delighted with the excellent service provided by our guides, cook and porters. Our grateful thanks to them all.
