After more than 15 years of service, SWISS says goodbye to an icon of the sky, the Avro RJ100, also known as Jumbolino.
In its place, the world’s most modern short-and medium haul aircraft, the Bombardier C Series, will operate to SWISS destinations throughout Europe.

Goodbye Swiss Avro - SwissCyul Music Video
On August 11th 2017 I joined the last Swiss Avro RJ100 flight from Hannover to Zurich in Seat 1A. It's really sad to see this iconic jet leave the skies. I flew many times on the quad jet and it was always a pleasure to be on board!

Farewell SWISS Avro RJ100 - Jumbolino ends where it started | Aviation Short Film
JUMBOLINO, a name given by former Crossair pilots to the aircraft that has the character of a 747 but the size of a 735 - The Avro RJ
Farewell and Goodbye Swiss Avro RJ100
Now the type's biggest operator Swiss International Airlines has retired it's fleet of 21 ARJ-100 aircraft. The last active airframe (HB-IYZ) will fly a farewell flight on 20th of August. At the same time the legacy of Crossair vanishes.

Jumbolino (RJ100 & RJ85) is a type that is a been used for over two decades in Switzerland.
In 1992 Europe's biggest regional airline Crossair was the launch customer of the RJ85 programme and in 1995 they aquired the larger RJ100.
Ever since Avro's have been flying with Swissair Express, Crossair and eventually Swiss.
Swissair and the whole SAirGroup faced a dramatic bankrupcy in 2001. Swissair merged with Crossair creating Swiss International Airlines, now known as 'SWISS'. Most aircraft were transferred to the new airline including both Avro RJ variants.
Swiss phased out their inherited Crossair RJ-85s already in 2008 but kept the RJ-100 in their fleet up to date. Over the years they even aquired some additional airframes from British Airways.
The RJ100 has been flying succesfully ever since.
From 2008 obwards these Avro RJ-100s were operated by a subsidary Swiss European Airlines . In early 2015 the airline was rebranded into Swiss Global Airlines. Swiss Global continues in the air with the Bombardier CS100/300 aka the Avro killer and Boeing 777.

FAREWELL JUMBOLINO - SWISS Avro RJ100 fleet 2007-2017
It has been predicted quite a while ago, but at last it all went very fast: SWISS is retiring their fleet of the Avro RJ100. On August the 15th 2017, the last remaining RJ100 has received it's final ceremony at Zurich Airport.
Known as Jumbolino, this aircraft has achieved an iconic status here in Switzerland. It's look is pretty much the exact opposite of what a modern short range jet looks like today. It has FOUR ENGINES, it's a high-wing plane and the elevators are at the top of the rudder. Nevertheless it has proved to be a very good flying machine with unique abilities. It was able to takeoff and land on very short runways. This made it well beloved by pilots and passengers. But as time goes, those little quad jets did not meet the economic conditions anymore. They are going to be replaced by Bombardier CS100 and CS300.
Personally, I had a love-hate relationship with the Jumbolino as a plane spotter. I kind of enjoyed it due to its different look, but also hated it because LSZH used to be packed by them. There was no other airport worldwide which used to have more movements of this aircraft than Zurich.
This video is my farewell to the Jumbolino. It's not about good camera work or video quality. You'll notice different qualities due to my new cam I'm using since late 2016. The purpose is to show all SWISS Jumbolinos one last time. Unfortunately I've missed two of them, HB-IYY and HB-IYW. But I hope you'll enjoy this special compilation dedicated to one of the most unique aircrafts ever flown.

On June 17th 2015, SWISS welcomed one of the Bombardier C Series CS100 prototypes to Zurich Airport, which arrived already painted in the SWISS livery and will remain that way, flying with Bombardier. For the entire SWISS family - pilots, flight attendants, office staff and maintenance crew - the event was an emotional and happy one, and we all were excited to take a look at our future member of the SWISS fleet, which will join our operations in summer 2016.

The Final Avro Flight Report: Hannover-Zurich Swiss Business Avro RJ100
Time to say goodbye to a very iconic aircraft. The Avro RJ100 was a part of my life since 2010. At least twice a year I was on board one of the quad jets. The last RJ100 flight operated on the route takes me from Hannover to Zurich on this rainy August morning. The following day a Bombardier C-Series operated the flight.

Ex SWISS Avro RJ100 Landing at Prestwick Airport
Seeing an Avro RJ85 or an RJ100 at Prestwick is quite common, due to the Chevron hanger. When Swiss were phasing their remaining Avro RJ100s out, most of them passed through Prestwick at one point during 2017. Here is one of the last Swiss Avro RJ100s to be withdrawn from the fleet, arriving at Prestwick on a typical cloudy morning.

Last Flight Brussels Airlines Avro RJ100
Last scheduled flight SN 2720 from Geneva GVA to Brussels BRU is the end of the story for the Brussels Airlines AVRO, at the beginning the fleet consisted exclusively of 32 AVRO type aircraft (12 AVRO RJ100, 14 RJ85 and 6 Bae146) that were acquired from Sabena subsidiary DAT.
31.5 million passengers have flown on board a Brussels Airlines AVRO jet to a European destination until 28 October 2017.
On 29 October, the Brussels Airlines employees say goodbye to the AVRO RJ at an event in the Brussels Airlines maintenance hangar.

On 14th of August 2017 I had the chance to fly the last two commercial SWISS flights with the Avro RJ. This aircraft type served for Crossair and SWISS for 27 years and is now retiring from the fleet. The last active aircraft was HB-IYZ, a 18 year old Avro RJ100.
This video contains the first part of the day with LX464 from Zurich to London City Airport. Second part with LX465 in business class will be available soon on my channel.
