Het Wilhelmus (English translation: The William) is the national anthem of the Netherlands and is the oldest national anthem in the world though the words of the Japanese national anthem (not the music) date back to the ninth century. Although it was not recognized as the official national anthem until 1932, it has always been popular with parts of the Dutch population and resurfaced on several occasions in the course of Dutch history before gaining its present status.

Wilhelmus van Nassouwe, or just known as the Wilhelmus, National Anthem of of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Performance at King's Day celebration 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.
The Wilhelmus is one of the oldest known national anthem in the world. It tells of the Father of the Nation William of Orange, who was Stadholder in the Netherlands and the nation's struggle to achieve independence from the Spanish Empire.
Hoe goed kent Nederland het Wilhelmus eigenlijk?
Met het WK voor de deur heeft NS onderzoek laten doen naar de kennis van het Wilhelmus onder Nederlanders. Hieruit blijkt dat 40% van de Nederlanders het 1e couplet van ons volkslied niet kent, maar 73% van de Nederlanders het wel belangrijk vindt dat we het Wilhelmus kennen. Tijdens de wedstrijden van het Nederlands Elftal kunnen reizigers live meekijken op de grote schermen op een aantal stations en gezamenlijk ons volkslied inzetten. Daarom gaat NS op originele wijze Nederland het Wilhelmus leren.
Reizigers kunnen van 2 tot en met 29 juni op het station het Wilhelmus bij elkaar sparen. Bij de verkoop van verschillende actieproducten in de winkels ontvangen reizigers een musje die op zijn staart een regel van het 1e couplet van het Wilhelmus heeft. Met 8 juiste Wilhelmusjes kun je het 1e couplet van het volkslied uit volle borst meezingen.
