So I’ve made videos before on things you can’t do in Japan because of laws or unknown laws that could get you arrested, but in this video I wanted to switch things up a little and share with you some things that are legal in Japan but may be illegal in other parts of the world. Many think that Japan is a very strict country, but when you hear some of these Japanese laws you may be scratching your head. Elements from Japanese culture are in our lives right now: many people watch anime and Japanese TV series, they eat wok and sushi, and they listen to songs by Japanese singers. And even such a seemingly ordinary thing as karaoke actually originated in Japan. However, there are still some things that can only be seen in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Really, Japan is a unique country, different from the rest of the world. Wanna have Pringles soup when in Japan? Here you go. In the mood for dinner with a huge plush Moomin in a Japanese cafe? Not a problem at all. Here are some cultural things can’t be seen anywhere but in Japan.

These are examples of why a Japanese Wife may start hating their foreign husband. As many of you know, I’ve been married to my Japanese wife Maiko, for over 3.5 years now in Japan. During this time I’ve learned first hand quite a bit about what Japanese women culturally expect when living with a Foreign Husband, like me from the United States, so I wanted to share some hopefully useful points. And to be fair, today’s examples of cultural issues are not just from Maiko and I, some points I learned from my married foreign male friends with Japanese wives or my Japanese wife friends with their foreign husbands over many years living in Japan. This is a list of cultural relationship issues, that without compromise, have created many fights, ongoing arguments, resentment, and even hate leading some married couples into divorce. Like many lists like this though, these are generalizations and not every single Japanese woman or foreign man is like this but if you are planning to get married here in Japan these are some things to be aware of so you don’t end up hating your partner. Also, this list can be applied if you’re foreign female with a Japanese husband. Finally, if you’re already married in Japan, let me know how these ones sit with you and if there are any things that I missed.

Strange Japanese Laws and Weird Japanese laws that could get someone Arrested. Over the years I’ve come across some Japanese laws that aren’t completely obvious, especially to visitors so I thought I’d make this fun video and share it with all of you. In fact, these Japanese laws are stuff that many Japanese consider manners or common sense, but they’ve taken it one step further and made it official law just in case someone decides to go against the grain. Whether or not the Japanese authorities decide to arrest someone or prosecute though maybe a different story, but nonetheless these laws may be one of the reasons why things in Japan stay in order. Many of the items shared in the video fall under Japanese 軽犯罪法, Keihan zaihou or the minor crime law which is sometimes explained as a law that stipulates the minimum level of morality that citizens should observe in their daily lives and it targets bad acts that are often seen in daily life. All minor crime law violators could face a fine between about $10 to $100 and or jail time of 1 to 30 days.

WEIRD THINGS IN JAPAN THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND
We all aware that Japan is a developed country and a perfect destination for someone who wants to experience a different culture in a stunning country. If you think you have seen it all in Japan, we can assure that you don’t until you have experienced yourself the 6 unusual things that we’ve listed out for you. So, get ready for the mind blown!
1) INEMURI
Inemuri is the act of sleeping in the office or in any public area and it is a part of Japan’s culture. In other country, sleeping in the office is like asking your boss to scold you but, In Japan, sleeping while you working are a sign of hard work. Sometimes, Japanese fake sleeping in the office to reassure their bosses that they work harder than usual. Great…right?
2) FAKE SNAGGLETOOTH
Great news! You don’t need braces if you stay in Japan if you are born with snaggle tooth. Japanese find snaggle tooth (yaeba) are attractive and kawaii (cute). They even don’t mind spending a large sum of money to have a crooked tooth. Well, we all should agree that it is actually really cute!
3) EXTRAORDINARY VENDING MACHINE
You might think that Vending Machine only stores food and drink. Unlike in Japan, their vending machine has wide selection of goods from a live crab to a t-shirt which surely will blow your mind!
4) USELESS ESCALATOR
Japan has the world’s shortest escalator which is located in the basement of More Department Store in Kawasaki. The escalator has only 5 steps and often considered useless by tourists. If you have been to Japan, you will think that there’s nothing weird about it as Japanese do love escalator!
5) ICE CREAM THAT DOESN’T MELT
Did you know that there’s non-melt ice cream in Japan? Scientists in Japan accidentally discovered a chemical that solidifies cream immediately during experimenting the chemistry of strawberries to help farmers affected by the 2011 tsunami. Scientists said ‘’Ice cream bars made with this compound can hold their own against an air dryer for five minutes without melting’’ but don’t worry, the compound is tasteless!
6) SQUARE WATERMELONS
Square watermelons… yes! It is usual in Japan but not in other countries. You might have seen this as it went viral all over twitter before but did you know that Japanese invented square watermelon for a reason? Well, it is purposely invented to fit the fridge. Today, you will not only find square watermelons in Japan but you could also find a heart shaped watermelons!

10 Reasons Why Japanese Don't Like Foreigners. Thanks to Squarespace, get 10% Off: Japan tourists or foreigners coming to Japan may not understand Japanese culture because of this some Japanese dislike foreigners for not understanding Japanese manner and etiquette. As a generalization, Japanese follow the rules and get frustrated when people don't follow those rules, but often time they generally avoid confrontation when they have these sort of issues. Based on my experience, this is why Japanese don't like foreigners and tourists and what they are really thinking when foreigners break the rules. I can't stress enough that these are generalizations and not everyone is like this as everyone is unique, but for the purpose of this video and to show what Japanese may be getting pissed off about, I speak in general terms. These are my Japan tips for tourists to help them understand Japanese manners so they don't make those tourist mistakes in Japan or in that they may be unknowingly viewed as misbehaving tourists in Japan. Although some Japanese hate foreigners for doing things in the video, some other Japanese may be okay with the behavior but again I am speaking in general terms. In general, I don't think foreigners want to be rude tourists in Japan, but because they don't understand Japanese rules or Japanese manner they make the classical foreigner mistakes in Japan. These are must-know Japan tips to and a Japan guide when visiting Japan.

These things gave us CULTURE SHOCK when we came to Japan
Can you guess them? These things gave us culture shock when we came to Japan! Other than the language we weren’t expecting too much culture shock when we moved to Japan. But boy were we wrong! The things we talk about today all caught us off guard and are some of the more amusing aspects of culture shock in Japan! From the extreme weather to the traditional hot spring etiquette, there have been plenty of times when we’ve experienced culture shock here. So if you’re planning to move to Japan or even to visit knowing these things will stop some awkward cultural faux pas.

Why Japan Arrests Foreigners

The Japanese justice system and Japanese laws are stricter than many countries and sometimes lead to foreigner arrests in Japan simply because foreigners are unaware of Japan laws and Japan justice system. The Japanese judicial system has 99% conviction rate in Japan so foreigners should be mindful and aware how strict Japan laws and rules are. Japanese Police arrests tourist in Japan or Japan Police arrest foreigners in Japan when they are under suspicion of a crime. Suspects will be brought into police custody to be interrogated for 3 days and if the Japanese police are still not satisfied, the police can request for additional detainment for up to 23 days total, without the suspect being officially charged with a crime in Japan. In this video, I interview a Japanese Trial Lawyer, Yugo Ishibashi, to help me understand the Japanese justice system as well as to share with foreigners and tourists how Japanese law works in Japan and maybe gain some insight on what options a foreigner has if arrested in Japan. Japanese police interrogation is quite stressful and Yugo mentions that sometimes suspects plead guilty even though they didn't commit the crime due to the pressure of the Japanese police interrogation. If suspects don't plead guilty to the crime, it may be possible to be detained for more than a year until the suspect confess to a crime. This is sometimes referred to as Hostage Justice in Japan. Convicted persons will end up in Japanese Jail and Japanese prison. This video should help educate tourist visiting Japan and foreigners living in Japan to help ensure that they are aware of how strict Japanese laws are so that they are careful to not violate the laws when they are in Japan. But keep in mind that these laws are one of the reasons why Japan is so safe compared to many other countries. This video is not to deter foreigners or tourists from visiting Japan, but they should just be aware of Japanese laws and the risks when breaking laws in Japan like graffiti in japan or fighting in japan.
