We will wander Kokusai Dori to see all of the interesting store offerings, chow down on Okinawa Soba and pick up a beautiful souvenir at Tsuboya Yachimun Street, stop by Naminoue Beach and Naminoue Shrine during sunset, eat at an Izakaya that has a unique style of ordering, purchase and eat fresh fish from the Makishi Fish Market, and relax by a seaside cafe and beach.

You've heard of Okinawa, but have you visited the island of Zamami yet? If not, you're missing out on a beautiful destination. You'll need to take a ferry to get to the island, but once you're there, it's the perfect place to slow down and relax by/in the water.
Two must-see places are Ama and Furuzamami beaches. If you visit Ama Beach during high tide, there's an excellent possibility you'll be able to swim with sea turtles as they eat. Furuzamami Beach was awarded two stars by the Michelin Green Guide Japan.
Don't forget to try some of the local food too! There are many unique Okinawan dishes like tofuyo and mozuku soba.

Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters, Tomigusuku

During World War II, Japanese naval forces in Okinawa, led by Rear Admiral Minoru Ota, built an elaborate underground headquarters, with hundreds of meters of connecting tunnels under a hill in Tomagusuku. On June 4, 1945, the U.S. 6th Marines landed and a pitched battle ensued.
Ota sent his farewell telegram to the 32nd Army on June 11. In it, he commended the Okinawan people’s self-sacrifice and cooperation during the battle. Ota then, along with members of his staff, committed suicide on June 13 to avoid surrender. The Marines sealed the entrances to the underground headquarters rather than attempt to enter it. When it was unsealed in the 1950s, the remains of over 2000 sailors were found.
Today, the Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters can be visited by the public. Traces of the mass suicide by Ota and his men can still be seen. Blast scars from a hand grenade are visible on the walls and the farewell message left by Ota is still clearly visible.

Tokashiki island Okinawa Japan: Perfectly perfect.
Tokashiki island is the largest island in the Kerama archipelago. Located 60mins off the coast of Naha Okinawa, it is simply breath taking and one of the most pristine island getaways in Japan.
With secluded beaches, world class diving and more then enough space to get lost from the world, Tokashiki is a must see destination when traveling through Japan and Okinawa.
There are daily ferry services as well as a fast boat option that can get you to the island within an hour making it a very accessible option for people looking to get away from the daily routine and experience swimming with sea turtles, coral reefs and even catch humpback whales during the months of Jan- March

Naha Okinawa Japan - Umikaji Terrace | Shurijo Castle Walking Tour 2023????
This time I will be sightseeing in Naha City, Okinawa in one day.
I will introduce some of Naha's famous landmarks: Umikaji Terrace, Naminoue Beach, Shurijo Castle, and Kokusai-dori Street.
Although it is only one day, Naha is well served by public transportation and has many tourist attractions. I think even a short trip will be enjoyable enough.
????About Shurijo Castle
Shurijo Castle, also known as Shuri Castle, is a castle located in Naha, the capital city of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. The castle served as the center of politics, culture, and diplomacy for the Ryukyu Kingdom from the 15th to the 19th century.
The castle was originally built in the 14th century, but was destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout its history due to wars and fires. The current reconstruction was completed in 1992 after a devastating fire in 1971.
The architecture of Shurijo Castle is a blend of Chinese and Okinawan styles, reflecting the Ryukyu Kingdom's close cultural ties with China. The castle is also known for its distinctive red roof tiles and intricate wood carvings.
In 2000, Shurijo Castle was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with other Ryukyu Kingdom sites. It is now a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of Okinawan culture and heritage.
On October 31, 2022, a fire broke out at Shuri Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The fire originated in one of the buildings, including the northern and southern halls and part of the central gate, which were under restoration at the time. The main building of the castle, the Seiden or Main Hall, including the castle tower, also known as the North Palace, were destroyed in the fire.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, but the fire caused significant damage to the cultural heritage site, including national treasures and important cultural assets. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical issue related to the ongoing restoration work.
Shuri Castle is a symbol of Okinawan history and culture, and the loss of this important cultural site has deeply affected people in Okinawa and around the world. The Japanese government has pledged to rebuild the castle as closely as possible to its original form, and the restoration work is expected to take several years.
