Experience East Belgium
East Belgium inspires visitors with its nature, its breathtaking landscapes between the Eifel and the Ardennes, whilst offering countless possibilities to experience them closely. As well as the unique landscape, there are lots of destinations and attractions to discover during your holiday.
The attractions include museums, institutions of art and culture, castles, fortresses and churches, but also some magnificent lakes and swimming pools for carefree bathing enjoyment with the whole family.
Apart from cycling and hiking, anyone wishing to stay active will find many other possibilities for doing sport and getting to know the country and its people at the same time. Well preserved monuments and landmarks bring the history of this border region to life. It is with particular pride that the inhabitants draw attention to their original products and the many traditions and regional spectacles of nature which come to life here year after year.
Each region has its own identity: in Raeren, the pottery museum resides in a moated castle. In Eupen, the capital of the German-speaking community, visitors are enchanted by the Oberstadt lined by patrician houses. Gourmets feel drawn to the inviting centre of the town, hikers to the Hertogenwald. In summer, the town of Malmedy turns into a sea of flowers. The former monastery is home to the Malmundarium, an interactive culture and visitors' centre. Bütgenbach is characterised by water and by the leisure amenities at the Worriken reservoir. The town of St. Vith stands for excellent restaurants and charming rural surroundings at the intersection between the Eifel and the Ardennes.

La sympathique petite ville de Saint-Vith et sa périphérie se situent entre l’Eifel et l’Ardenne. Depuis toujours, la commune est connue pour son hospitalité et la qualité de son offre touristique.
Complètement détruite pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale, la ville de Saint-Vith s’est admirablement développée au cours des dernières décennies. Le centre-ville a été entièrement réhabilité. Les visiteurs seront séduits par les nombreux commerces et les terrasses, où ils feront une halte bien méritée. Organisés régulièrement, les marchés attirent le chaland. Le troisième mardi de novembre marque l’apogée de la saison des marchés avec le marché de la Sainte-Catherine. En été, ne ratez pas l’une des plus grandes brocantes de Belgique. Organisée le 1er vendredi du mois d’août, elle attire des milliers de personnes.
Les nombreuses possibilités de détente et les paysages naturels offrent une excellente qualité de vie aux habitants de la commune et à ses visiteurs. En plus du RaVel, ils disposent de nombreux chemins balisés pour le vélo ou la randonnée. Les visiteurs les plus sportifs apprécieront également les terrains de tennis, le parcours de golf, la piscine couverte, la piscine en plein air et les nombreuses autres infrastructures. A proximité se situe en outre un grand parc de loisirs avec piste de karting, bowling et d’autres attractions. Le centre culturel et de conférences Triangel enrichit également l’offre touristique.

Une visite guidée vous permettra de découvrir l’histoire locale avant la destruction pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale. Abrité dans l’ancienne gare, le musée régional vaut également le détour. Les villages alentours valent également le détour. A Rodt, le musée de la bière abrite pas moins de 4.000 bouteilles de bière venues du monde entier. La forêt voisine invite à la balade. En hiver, les plus sportifs profiteront des pistes de ski de fond tracées et balisées. L’une des principales attractions de la commune est située à Recht. C’est le « Schieferstollen », la mine de schiste, dans laquelle les mineurs extrayaient la pierre bleue jusqu’au début du 20ème siècle. Sankt Vith - Het kleine aantrekkelijke stadje op de grens tussen Eifel en Ardennen
Het kleine aantrekkelijke stadje Sankt Vith en omgeving liggen op de grens tussen Eifel en Ardennen. De gemeente staat bekend voor haar gastvrijheid en het kwalitatief toeristisch aanbod.
De stad Sankt Vith werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog bijna volledig vernield, maar heeft de voorbije decennia een prachtige ontwikkeling meegemaakt. De eeuwenoude traditie als marktplaats bleef bewaard, want de volledig vernieuwde binnenstad biedt bezoekers tal van shoppingmogelijkheden, terwijl de talrijke terrasjes uitnodigen om even te pauzeren en van de omgeving te genieten.
Ook de regelmatig plaatsvindende markten trekken telkens duizenden bezoekers aan. Het hoogtepunt is de traditionele ‘Katharinenmarkt’ iedere derde dinsdag van november. Maar ook de antiquiteiten- en rommelmarkt iedere eerste vrijdag van augustus is steeds weer een groot succes. Met zijn interessante koopjes en kleurrijke diversiteit lokt hij duizenden mensen naar Sankt Vith.
Het natuurlijke landschap in en rondom Sankt Vith werkt ontspannend en garandeert mensen uit eigen streek en bezoekers een hoge levenskwaliteit.
Het reeds goed uitgeruste kilometerlange wandel- en fietspadnetwerk zal de komende jaren verder worden uitgebreid. Voor sportievelingen biedt Sankt Vith een goede infrastructuur met tennispleinen, golfterreinen, een buiten- en een binnenzwembad en zo veel meer. Net buiten Sankt Vith bevindt er zich bovendien een groot vrijetijdscentrum met een kartbaan, een bowlingbaan en andere attracties. Het cultuur-, conferentie- en beurscentrum ‘Triangel’ vervolledigt het toeristische aanbod.
Sankt Vith is ook voor fijnproevers een begrip. Kwalitatieve restaurants, waaronder zelfs een sterrenrestaurant, serveren de beste lokale en internationale gerechten om van te genieten. Vooral de wild-weekends in de herfst zijn een absolute must.
Daarnaast zijn er nog de 'Büchelturm‘, het enige overblijfsel van de middeleeuwse stadsmuren, en de bezienswaardige neoromantische Vitur-Basilika. Een historische rondwandeling zet bezoekers terug in “de goede oude tijd” van St.Vith, voordat het stadje in WOII werd vernield. In het streekmuseum (in het voormalig station) is een interessante tentoonstelling over het verleden van Sankt Vith en omgeving te zien, terwijl de “Planetenweg” op zeer aanschouwelijke wijze ons zonnestelsel presenteert.
Niet alleen Sankt Vith is het bezoeken waard; ook de nabije dorpjes bieden heel wat interessante bezienswaardigheden en activiteiten: in het biermuseum in Rodt zijn meer dan 4000 bierflessen uit zowat alle regio’s op aarde tentoongesteld; het omliggende bos nodigt uit tot een wandeling of – in de winter – tot een langlauf-sessie. Het dorpje Recht werd pas de laatste jaren een echte bezoekersmagneet: in de oude leisteenmijn werd tot aan het begin van de 20ste eeuw blauwgrijze leisteen gewonnen. Vandaag de dag is de mijngroeve toegankelijk voor bezoekers en biedt ze een authentiek beeld van het leven in de “ondergrond” van weleer. Ook de idyllische dorpjes in de Our-vallei zijn een bezoekje waard.
Kortom: De gemeente St.Vith is de beste keus voor een gevarieerde vakantie in een gezellige sfeer en een natuurlijke omgeving. Er is maar één mogelijkheid om echt alle mooie facetten van onze gemeente te onydekken:

Driving in Germany and Belgium: Autobahn A60 E42 from Kreuz Wittlich to St. Vith
Hi there and welcome back to the Autobahn in the West of Germany. In this video you can drive along on the A60 (E42) and Belgian A27 (E42) from Kreuz Wittlich to the city of St. Vith.
I almost used more washer fluid than fuel on this drive because of the many bugs squashed on the windscreen ;-) It's a really nice Autobahn to drive, very scenic with some very wavy parts followed by tall valley bridges. Most of the stretch has no speed limit.
Towards the end of the A60 it turns into a 1x1 expressway alignment, probably due to budget constraints at the time since there are some tall bridges and challenging terrain involved. From the border continuing into Belgium it's back to a classic motorway 2x2 alignment.
