Owase has long been a producer of high-quality Japanese cypress. Owase Wappa, which is made using only carefully selected cypress from Owase, was originally used as a lunch box for the daily lives of men who worked in the mountains. Using traditional methods, carefully selected materials are carved, carefully bent, sewn together using cherry tree bark and lacquered in multiple layers. It takes more than a month to complete one Wappa because all 45 processes are done by hand by just one person.
