First of all, thank you! for showering your love towards our Offbeat North Bengal series and hopefully you keep loving and sharing it. Saying so, here is another offbeat tourist place name Kalimpong, which is a district in itself and is located only a few KMs away from Sittong, in North Bengal. You won't believe the vibe there is so awesome. We absolutely loved our homestay there. OMG! the place was totally covered in clouds, I have never experienced such a thing. It was breathtaking. On top of that there are so many places to explore in the hill station, like Deolo park that blooms with Azalea flowers this season, and you can do paragliding there as well. Along with it there are beautiful monasteries and temples there and much more. You can easily complete your trip within 2 days. Honestly its a perfect destination to escape the deadly heat waves. I just feel like going back into the clouds, literally speaking.

????About Kalimpong :
Kalimpong is a city and a municipality in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located at an average elevation of 1,250 metres (4,101 ft). The city is the headquarters of the Kalimpong district.
Kalimpong is known for its educational institutions, many of which were established during the British colonial period. It used to be a gateway in the trade between Tibet and India before China's annexation of Tibet and the Sino-Indian War.
The municipality sits on a ridge overlooking the Teesta River and is a tourist destination owing to its temperate climate, natural environment and proximity to popular tourist locations in the region. Horticulture is important to Kalimpong: It has a flower market notable for its wide array of orchids; nurseries, which export Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes, contribute to the economy of Kalimpong. Home to Nepalis and indigenous Lepchas, other ethnic groups and non-native immigrants from other parts of India, the town is a religious centre of Buddhism. The Tibetan Buddhist monastery Zang Dhok Palri Phodang holds a number of rare Tibetan Buddhist scriptures.
The Kalimpong Science Centre, established under the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) in 2008 is a recent addition to its many tourist attractions. The Science Centre, which provides for scientific awareness among the students of the town and the locals sits atop the Deolo Hill.

Kalimpong is a virgin hill station in West Bengal renowned for its panoramic valley views, Buddhists monasteries and churches and Tibetan handicrafts etc.
The first thing that strikes the traveler visiting Kalimpong is its quiet atmosphere. The peaceful ambience that pervades is heightened by the presence of monasteries and churches across the town. Kalimpong is also known for its bustling bazaars and traditional handicrafts. It is famous for its orchids and nurseries. Kalimpong offers panoramic view of the great Himalayan ranges that lie beyond it.

Kalimpong is a very nice place for touring throughout the year because of its pleasant weather. This hill station is often wrapped up by fog in between monsoon and winter. So, best time to visit Kalimpong is either March to May or September to November.
Tourists Attractions
There are a number of places of tourist interest in Kalimpong. Kalimpong has three important gompas or monasteries: the Tharpa Choeling Gompa, the Tongsa Gompa and Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa. The Tharpa Choeling Gompa was established in 1922 and belongs to the Yellow Hat (Gelukpa) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. His Highness the Dalai Lama also belongs to this sect, which was founded in the 14th century in Tibet. The Tongsa Gompa is located near the Tharpa Choeling Gompa. It is the oldest monastery in Kalimpong and was founded in 1692. The present building is constructed over the ruins of the original monastery, which was raised by the Gurkhas, in the pre-British era. The Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa was built in the mid-1970s on Durpin Hill and is located 5 km south from the town center. It was consecrated by His Highness the Dalai Lama. This monastery is famous for its traditional Tibetan wall paintings.
Kalimpong is an important flower producing center and it produces 80% of the total gladioli produced in India. There are numerous nurseries in Kalimpong, which excel in production of orchids. Travelers can visit some important nurseries across the town and look at their collection of flowers, orchids and cacti.
Other places to visit in Kalimpong include the Sericulture Research Institute, Dr Graham's Home and the adjoining chapel (located on the slopes of Deolo Hill), and the Nature Interpretation Center (located on Rinkingpong road).

Kalimpong is a tiny hill station nestled in the northern region of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal. Surrounded by majestic mountains, lush tropical gardens, and crystal-clear lakes – Kalimpong is a paradise for people who love nature. Whether you are an adventure lover, want to enjoy the sweeping views of the mountains, eat mouth-watering food, or visit the beautiful temples and monasteries
50 minutes east of Darjeeling, Kalimpong is a hill station on the foothills of Shivalik ranges at an altitude of 1250 m overlooking the Teesta Valley. People say that the area was ruled by Bhutanese kings and was a forward post of the Bhutanese Army till the 19th century. Dotted with ancient Buddhist monasteries, centuries old churches and exquisite revered temples Kalimpong marks the Bhutanese history till it was wrested by British rulers. The Jang Dong Palriffo Brang (Monastery), Thongsa Gompa (Bhutanese Monastery) are some famous places to visit. Also make sure to visit the flower markets famous for its orchids and lovely bright flowers.

1. Visit the beautiful Delo Hill
Delo Hills, the highest point in Kalimpong offers you a chance to witness the majestic views of the valley from a staggering 1700 meters. You can even identify the tiny villages and gorgeous cities located near the town from here, and if you are chasing some thrilling adventures – make sure you try paragliding, trekking, and horse riding.
2. Witness the most unique flowers in Cactus Nursery
One of the largest commercial flower nurseries in Kalimpong, the Cactus Nursery features a vast collection of exotic flowers and gorgeous plants that will take your breath away. It’s a wonderful place for kids to learn about nature and conservation, as the nursery houses some of the rarest orchid plants and cactuses in the country.
3. Visit Mangal Dham Pranami Temple
At a distance of 1 km from Kalimpong Bus Station, Mangal Dham is a Hindu temple. Situated close to Thongsa Gompa, it is one of the most significant religious centers in West Bengal and among the must-visit places in Kalimpong.
4. Paragliding
The take-off point of the Paragliding in Kalimpong is Dello Hills, one of the best viewpoints in Darjeeling which offers prime views of majestic towering mountains. The flying trip ranges from 10 minutes, depending on the wind conditions. During the Paragliding in Kalimpong, you will be rewarded with awesome views of the Darjeeling peaks and their wildlife.
