Why You Should Travel to Peru by TourRadar

Are you seeking steep treks to conquer? Craving Peruvian delicacies such as cuy? Dreaming of adventure activities such as biking, riding and surfing? Are you on a tight budget? If yes, look no further than a journey to Peru. Explore the picturesque and historic sights of Peru including the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu to Sandoval Lake, or the desert oasis of Huacachina. This impressive destination has something for everyone.

Before you start planning your journey to Peru, there are a few things you need to know about health and safety. If you’re travelling anywhere near the Amazon, it’s imperative that you get yourself vaccinated for Yellow Fever and take some malaria medication. As for altitude sickness, if you’re trekking to Machu Picchu, you will need to allow for a few days in Cusco to adjust to the lower levels of oxygen found at high altitudes.

If you want to learn more about conquering altitude sickness and what to pack, take a look at our guide to trekking Machu Picchu here:

As you’re researching and considering a trip to Peru, it is likely that your mind will wander to the question of whether it’s safe to visit. Fear not, as Peru is most definitely a safe destination, even for solo travellers. In Peru the crime rate is relatively low, with pickpocketing being the most common problem that travellers will encounter. As long as you employ basic travel precautions and keep your wit’s about you should reduce the likelihood of any unfriendly or dangerous encounters.

To make the most of your next adventure to Peru, consider booking a tour to ensure your trip is fun, informative and hassle-free:

Next, comes the best part – planning your itinerary. Naturally, most travellers will want to visit Machu Picchu, and for good reason, but there are a few more destinations you need to visit. At the Colca Canyon, you can explore the deep river canyons where you can enjoy a spot of rafting or go trekking through the diverse terrain of the surrounding area. Next, make time to visit Lake Sandoval where you will find a large jungle lake surrounded by different types of rainforest and wildlife. Another notable destination is Huacachina, a desert oasis surrounded by palm trees and believed to host therapeutic properties. Each of these astounding destinations will leave you with lasting memories.

Once you’ve decided where to go, the next most important part of the equation is when you should jump on a plane to Peru. If trekking is the number one reason for you to visit Peru, the best time to travel is during July to August when the weather is at its finest. If possible, avoid the rainy season from December to January as some roads and trails may be subject to severe flooding. If trekking is not for you, you can still travel through the rainy season but just make sure you pack your best waterproof gear.

By now you’re probably feeling eager and excited to learn more about Peru. The good news? It doesn't end here. Continue watching another one of our videos or visit us on Days to Come.

7 Things To Do in Peru (That Aren't Machu Picchu)

7. Sandboarding and racing dune buggies in Huacachina
This hidden oasis provides ample opportunity for adrenaline-junkies and thrill seekers to explore. Just four hours south of Lima, travellers can begin their day by boarding down sand dunes or racing across the desert in dune buggies for a truly exhilarating experience.

6. Explore the Peruvian Amazon
Considered to be less popular than its Brazilian counterpart, the Peruvian Amazon is home to a diverse wildlife population and winding rivers that you need to visit while in Peru. To access the diverse jungle terrain, you can take a flight from the city of Puerto Maldonado with flights leaving daily from Cusco and Lima. And the good news? Tours through the Amazon on the Peru side are significantly cheaper – meaning you can save your dollars for a bonus round of pisco sours.

5. Go deep into Colca Canyon
When in Peru, make time to visit one of the deepest and most spectacular canyons in the world, the Colca Canyon. Accessible from Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa, the Colca Canyon is Peru’s third most-visited attraction yet many hikers seem to skip this impressive site. Don’t make the same mistake as those hikers and add a trip to the Colca Canyon to your itinerary. Also, if you’re still yet to be impressed, the Colca Canyon is actually twice as deep as the United States’ Grand Canyon. See for yourself how it compares.

4. Embrace the serenity of Lake Sandoval
Lake Sandoval is part of the Madre de Dios region of Peru, which is part of the Amazon basin. To reach this majestic site, you can start your hike near Mare de Dios River and marvel at the impressive wildlife including parrots, macaws and other exciting creatures. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by an unforgettable sunset.

3. Taste the mineral-rich salts of Maras
Just outside of Cusco you will find the town of Maras which is held in high esteem across the world for its impressive collection of salt mines that date back to the Inca times. Here, you will find thousands of salt pools that make up the hillside that build an intricate network of channels that feed spring water into the ponds. For a small fee, you can taste the warm water and sample some of the finest salt in the world. The mineral rich salt is great for cooking and is believed to help reduce stress.

2. Walk the streets of Arequipa
You’ve heard all about Cusco and Lima, but what do you really know about Arequipa? This city is filled with charming baroque architecture built from white volcanic stone. Surrounded by breathtaking volcanoes, Arequipa has well and truly earned its place as a UNESCO World Heritage destination.

1. Do as the Peruvians do in Huilloc
There’s a reason why we saved the best until the very end. To wrap up your time in Peru, there’s no better way to experience Peru than by immersing yourself in local culture. Make time for a visit to the Quechua village of Hilloc and learn more about the fine art weaving from the female villagers who have been perfecting the craft since a young age. Then, sit down for a pachamanca lunch where stones and grass are used to cook cuy (guinea pig), fava beans and potatoes using traditional cooking methods. The hospitality and generosity of the Quehchea villagers will leave you feeling humbled and grateful for the experience.

In this video, we will explore the best things to do in Peru, from exploring ancient ruins to trying delicious local cuisine.

First on the list is the iconic Machu Picchu, one of the most famous and breathtaking archaeological sites in the world. Situated high in the Andes Mountains, this ancient city of the Incas attracts millions of visitors each year. The awe-inspiring views of the ruins and surrounding landscapes will leave you speechless.

Another must-see attraction is the Nazca Lines, an ancient mystery of the desert. These geoglyphs are massive drawings etched into the ground, depicting animals, geometric shapes, and other mysterious figures that have puzzled scientists for decades.

If you're a foodie, Peru is a paradise for your taste buds. Ceviche, a dish made with raw fish marinated in lime juice, is one of the country's most famous dishes. Also, try Lomo Saltado, a flavorful stir-fry of beef, onions, tomatoes, and fries, or anticuchos, grilled skewers of marinated beef heart.

In addition to the famous ruins and culinary delights, Peru is home to some of the world's most stunning natural wonders. The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and offers breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, including the rare Andean condor.

For adventure seekers, Huacachina is the place to be. This desert oasis offers adrenaline-pumping activities such as sandboarding and dune buggy rides that will leave you exhilarated and wanting more.

Peru also offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and trekking enthusiasts. The Rainbow Mountain, located in the Andes Mountains, offers a challenging but rewarding hike through vibrant mountainside colors.

Finally, no trip to Peru is complete without experiencing its vibrant cultural heritage. Visit the historic city of Cusco, once the capital of the Incan Empire, and explore the colorful markets, cobblestone streets, and ancient ruins. The city also hosts many traditional festivals, such as the Inti Raymi, a colorful celebration of the winter solstice.

In conclusion, Peru is a country with something for everyone. Whether you're a foodie, an adventurer, or a history buff, Peru's rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and exciting activities make it a top destination for any traveler.

PERU TRANSPORTATION: Best Ways of GETTING AROUND PERU fast, safe & cheaply. WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU GO

Here are some of the best ways to get around Peru and some tips for using its transportation system.

=======================

Fired travel agent wants revenge! Here's the secret to cheap flights:

=======================

Peru is a country rich in history, culture, and natural wonders. From the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu to the vibrant cities of Lima and Cusco, there's so much to see and do. But with such a vast country to explore, it can be overwhelming to decide on the best way to get around. That's where our video comes in - we'll show you the top options for traveling in Peru.

First up, buses. Bus travel is a popular and affordable way to get around Peru. You can choose from a range of bus companies, from budget to luxury, depending on your budget and preferences. Most buses are comfortable and have onboard amenities like Wi-Fi and entertainment. However, keep in mind that the roads in Peru can be winding and bumpy, so if you're prone to motion sickness, this might not be the best option for you.

Another popular option is the train. The train journey from Cusco to Machu Picchu is one of the most scenic train rides in the world, offering breathtaking views of the Andes mountains and the Sacred Valley. There are also trains that run between other major cities in Peru, such as Lima and Arequipa. Train travel can be more expensive than buses, but it's a great option if you want to enjoy the scenery and travel in comfort.

If you prefer the freedom of driving yourself, you can also rent a car in Peru. This is a good option if you want to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations or have more flexibility in your itinerary. However, keep in mind that driving in Peru can be challenging, especially in the cities, where traffic can be congested and chaotic.

Finally, there's air travel. Flights within Peru are relatively affordable and can save you a lot of time if you're traveling long distances. There are many domestic airlines to choose from, and flights are frequent and reliable. However, keep in mind that some destinations may not have an airport, or flights may be infrequent or expensive.

In our video, we'll also give you some tips for navigating Peru's transportation network, such as how to book tickets and avoid scams. We'll also show you how to find the best deals on transportation, so you can save money and make the most of your trip.

Whether you're planning to hike the Inca Trail, explore the Amazon rainforest, or soak up the culture in Lima, our video will help you choose the best transportation option for your trip to Peru. Don't miss out on the opportunity to see all that this incredible country has to offer - watch our video now!

Tour Peru in 21 days with G Adventures

A chance to visit Peru is something so many travellers dream of - and a chance to visit Peru for an extended period of time is even better. How else will you discover everything this stunning country has to offer? Today, TourRadar and G Adventures are taking you along for the ride as several lucky travellers spend 21 days diving headfirst into Peru’s culture, vibrant nightlife, and gorgeous natural beauty - are you ready for Absolute Peru?

The journey begins in Lima, where travellers soak up as much Peruvian culture as possible - and it only gets more impressive from here. Drive through the desert sands at the Huacachina Oasis, ponder the mysterious Nazca Lines, and go trekking through Cola Canyon. The best part about Peru is that there is no best part - each day is more exciting than the one before it!

Of course, there’s one thing that keeps travellers coming back to Peru each and every year, and that’s the Inca Trail. This ancient path is such a major draw to travellers that the Peruvian government limits the number of people permitted to walk it each year, but, thankfully, when you’re travelling with a tour group like G Adventures, you’ll always have your permit on hand! Spend three glorious days in expansive, untouched nature, learning all about the ancient Inca people who lived in this region centuries ago. It’s a long, occasionally-difficult walk, but it’s beyond worth it: you’ll enjoy some of the best views on the planet, and once it’s over you’ll be able to explore the ancient city of Machu Picchu.

After all that trekking, who wouldn’t want to blow off some steam? Lucky for you, there’s still plenty of Peru to see! Spend a day exploring the city of Cusco (maybe with a pisco sour or two thrown in for good measure!) and then cruise through the rainforest to get an even better look at Peru’s awe-inspiring nature. Before you know it, you’ll be back in Lima, not-quite ready to say goodbye to your incredible three weeks in Peru!

Does this adventure seem tailor-made for you? Head over to TourRadar to check out this itinerary, as well as countless other G Adventures tours that can take you all around the world.

????▶ Experience the interactive version on TourRadar ????▶

Earlier this year, TourRadar put forward a challenge: do you have what it takes to leave normal life behind and travel to five continents over fifty days… with a complete stranger? Tour The World was born, and we received thousands of auditions from incredible people who thought they had what it takes to embark on this whirlwind tour of some of our favourite places in the world.

In the end, it all came down to two people: 32-year-old Californian Jessica Husson, and 23-year-old Joan Alemany of Spain. While our two winners are different in nearly every way, it was their similarities that made them the clear winners in our eyes - Jessica and Joan are both filled to the brim with a passion for travel, human connection, and growth. Good news for them: they’ll find plenty of that while touring the world!

Not only have our travellers never met before, they also have no idea where this journey of a lifetime will be taking them. In this premiere episode, Jessica and Joan meet for the first time in their first destination. Their first encounter takes place on the coast of Lima, both of them a little anxious to see how their personalities will mesh… or clash. Thankfully, once you’re trekking the Quarry Trail to visit Machu Picchu, one of the most beautiful places in the world, it’s easy to bond with someone new!

Joan recently told our team he’d travel with flamingos if it meant he could tour the world, while Jessica said she was excited for the challenge of stepping outside of her comfort zone by travelling with a stranger. Just how far outside of that comfort zone will Jessica be pushed? Does Joan ever find his flamingos? Watch to find out!

The adventure continues: welcome to episode two of Tour the World!

Last time, you were introduced to our two lucky winners, Joan and Jessica, and watched as they set out on the adventure of a lifetime. Today, we’re continuing to follow along as they explore the first stop on their life-changing 50-day tour around the world; Peru.

While Peru has so much to offer travellers, millions of people visit this gorgeous country for one main reason: for the incredible hiking along the Inca Trails, several of which lead to the infamous Machu Picchu. On this adventure, Joan and Jessica get to experience the best of both worlds with an amazing trek along the Quarry Trail and a scenic train ride to the iconic architectural site.

One of our favourite parts of travel is the way it pushes travellers out of their comfort zone - on this adventure, Jessica was certainly pushed to her limit! We were amazed at her resilience along the Quarry Trail trek; even when she felt like she wouldn’t be able to carry on, she pushed through, and it made the end of the trek even more exciting and magical for the whole group.

The thing about Tour The World, though, is things don’t end at just one life-changing experience! After being awestruck by the views on the Quarry trail and the glimpse into history at Machu Picchu, Joan and Jessica are whisked away into the heart of the Peruvian jungle - tarantulas, monkeys, and rushing rivers galore await them!

We’re so proud of Joan and Jessica as they continued to grow and experience new things on this first leg of their trip, but we’re only just getting started! Make sure to subscribe to our channel to keep updated on all things Tour The World: where do you think Joan and Jessica are going to be travelling for the next leg?
