SAIPAN: Inside forgotten WW2 ???? Japanese Pillbox, 1944 Battle of Saipan (Pacific Ocean)
Japanese pillbox, Island of Saipan, Pacific Ocean - second world war (WW2) Japanese bunker in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, Pacific Ocean. Let's travel to the island of Saipan in the Pacific Ocean and let's go inside of a surviving second world war (WW2) Japanese pillbox (or, Japanese bunker) built during the Battle of Saipan right outside the town of Garapan in Saipan to protect it from the American invading forces in 1944. The Americans, however, decided to invade Saipan a few miles south of Garapan and this WW2 Japanese pillbox survived intact since it saw no action. We will go inside this Japanese pillbox to view its architecture as well.
Saipan is the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. According to the 2010 United States Census, Saipan's population was 48,220.

사이판은 타포차우 산을 중심으로 열대 우림의 정글이 우거져 있다. 울창한 숲 사이로 아직까지 개발되지 않은 비포장도로를 따라가 봤다. 4륜 오토바이를 경험하기 위해 많은 사람들이 모였다. 산악 4륜 오토바이를 타기 위해선 간단한 교육을 받아야 하지만 조작이 비교적 쉬어 누구나 즐길 수 있다. 이런 액티비티가 여행의 추억을 더욱 특별하게 만들어주는 법이다. 자갈투성인 길을 조심스럽게 달리기 시작했다. 역시 ATV는 길이 험할수록 제 맛이다. 거친 땅을 딛고 자연의 바람을 가르며 신나게 달렸다. 섬의 서남쪽 방향은 초원으로 이뤄진 구릉이 펼쳐져 있다. 에버그린이라 이름 붙여진 이곳. 싱그런 녹색 물결을 따라 사륜 구동 오토바이가 줄지어 오른다. 하늘에서 내려다 본 모습이 한 폭의 그림 같은 아름다운 광경이다. 스릴을 만끽하기 위해 속도를 좀 더 내봤다. 물론, 힘들면 잠시 쉬어가도 된다. 언덕을 넘고 넘으며 운전하는 재미가 색다르다.

CNMI Veterans Cemetery, Island of Saipan, Pacific Ocean - the World War II (WW2) American Memorial and American Cemetery in Saipan, Pacific Ocean. Let's travel to the island of Saipan and let's visit the second world war Saipan American Memorial and Cemetery (CNMI Veterans Cemetery) which is located near the beach overlooking Tanapag Harbor on the Island of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands. The Saipan American Memorial and Cemetery is a part of the American Memorial Park commemorating the Americans who died during the liberation of the Mariana Islands during World War II. Specifically, the memorial and cemetery honor the 24,000 American marines and soldiers who died recapturing the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Guam during the period June 15, 1944 to August 11, 1944.
Saipan is the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the Western Pacific. It’s characterized by sandy shores and mountainous landscapes, and has several championship golf courses. Its highest point is 1,555-ft. Mt. Tapochau, a limestone peak at the island's center. Close to the northern tip, Japanese memorials mark Banzai Cliff and Suicide Cliff, sites from the 1944 Battle of Saipan.

The Commonwealth's center of government is located in the village of Capitol Hill on the island. Since the entire island is organized as a single municipality, most publications term Saipan as the Commonwealth's capital.
The current Mayor of Saipan is David M. Apatang, who was sworn into office on June 12, 2015.

Tourism has traditionally been a vital source of the island's revenue and economic activities. In years past, one of the main economic driving forces in Saipan was garment manufacturing. The USA agreed that the CNMI would be exempted from certain federal laws, including some concerning labor and immigration. One result was an increase in hotels and tourism. However, dozens of garment factories also opened; clothing manufacture became the island's chief economic force, employing thousands of foreign contract laborers while labeling their goods made in the U.S.A. and supplying the U.S. market with low cost garments exempt from U.S. tariffs. The working conditions and treatment experienced by employees in these factories were the subject of controversy and criticism.[16]
As of March 2007,[17] 19 companies manufactured garments on Saipan. In addition to many foreign-owned and run companies, many well-known U.S. brands also operated garment factories in Saipan for much of the last three decades. Brands included Gap (as of 2000 operating six[18] factories there), Levi Strauss,[19] Phillips-Van Heusen,[20] Abercrombie & Fitch,[21] L'Oreal subsidiary Ralph Lauren (Polo),[22] Lord & Taylor,[23] Tommy Hilfiger, and Walmart.[24]
Currently, there are no garment manufacturers on the island, with the last one having closed on January 15, 2009.[25] On November 28, 2009, the federal government took control of immigration to the Northern Mariana Islands.[26]

A well known tourist attraction on the island of Saipan (Pacific Ocean), Bird Island Sanctuary is home to thousands of birds and other marine species next to the island of Saipan in the Pacific Ocean. A short walk down stairs from the parking area, you’ll find yourself standing on a high cliff overlooking the beautiful Bird Island.
Bird Island Sanctuary is accessible year-round but you should avoid it during rainy season as the path becomes slippery and muddy. When the tide is calm and right, you can actually walk to the Bird Island Sanctuary. You’ll be welcomed by deep pools of abundant ocean fish and of course, birds. This is a marine protected area, no fishing and hunting is allowed which makes this place rich in wildlife.
