Moldova - the Poorest country in Europe. Moldova, a landlocked republic in eastern Europe, formerly a European soviet has remained impoverished 30 years after its independence. The authorities in the poorest country in Europe are worried about the rate specialized labor is leaving the country and lack of economic development. But why is Moldova the poorest country in Europe?

According to some estimates, some 25% percent of Moldovans are working abroad, making it the 11th highest in the world. Commenting on this saddening situation, Veaceslav Ionita, a Moldovan economist and prominent politician, once said: “Our people, our immigrants, most of them are now in the European Union western countries.” Dichotomizing the situation, Ionita added: “We have immigrants in Russia but it's more poor people, from rural areas, because it is easier to go to Russia, and usually for a short term. They go to Europe for the long term.

So we booked a last minute flight from London to Romania and then crossed the border in to Moldova, where we travelled on to the capital Chisinau, to explore the country and try to learn more about this little known country on the edge of eastern Europe. Arriving in Chișinău, I had to spend the night before my morning flight. There are no airport hotels in Moldova, so this was the closest option that had available rooms under $100 a night. On the map it looked close and easy enough to get to, but as we'll find out in this video, Moldova is full of corruption, and anyone with enough money can close off public streets to make their own secured, gated compounds.

Welcome to Chisinau, the capital of the republic of Moldova.

Are first stop was the Ethnographic Museum which is the oldest museum in the country founded in 1905. The museum takes you through a tour of the flora and fauna history in Moldova. The building has two floors and is one of the most visited attractions in Chisinau.

Next up we head to the monument of the mourning mother. It's a memorial dedicated to the soldiers who fell during the Afghanistan war of 1979-1989.

For lunch we headed to La Plancinte to try some local Moldavian cuisine. We tried vegetables, soups, delicious sausages and local Moldavian wine.

We then headed to the Eternitate Memorial which is dedicated to the hero's who fell during WWII. The five guns statue reminds us of each year during that war.

In the center of Chisinau is the Stefan cel Mare Central Park, it's named after Steven the Great and Saint. The park has the oldest monument, oldest fountain and the park has free Wifi.

Lastly, we attended the wine festival! The first weekend of every October, Chisinau hosts the festival in order to show the world that they are a wine destination. It was an awesome day!

I had the idea to visit the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, a few years ago. However, I postponed the trip indefinitely. In 2021, I decided to change jobs and at the same time I had to take a vacation. It was enough for Wizzair to deploy action ticket and Moldova became a reality. I packed a small backpack and flew straight from Prague to Chisinau. Although I divided my visit to Chisinau into several parts during the week, I still managed to go through almost the entire city. In Chisinau, the center with the large Cathedral Park, where are the Cathedral of Christ's Nativity and The Triumphal Arch. Other attractions in Chisinau are Presidental Palace of the Republic of Moldova, Stephen the Great Monument, Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Saint Ioan from Suceava Church, Chișinău Circus, Monument to Heroes of the Komsomol, Government House of the Republic of Moldova, Enter in the city - Bulevardul Dacia, Chisinau Railway Station, Piața Centrală, Muzeul de Istorie a Orașului Chișinău, Park Valea Morilor, Memorial Complex Eternity, Moldova National Opera Ballet and Monument TU 134.

Nápad navštívit hlavní město Moldavska, Kišiněv jsem měl už před několika lety. Výlet jsem však odložil na neurčito. V roce 2021 padlo rozhodnutí změnit práci. Bylo potřeba vyčerpat dovolenou. Poté již stačilo aby Wizzair dal akční letenky a Moldavsko se stalo realitou. Zabalil jsem si malý batoh a lětěl jsem z Prahy rovnou do Kišiněva. Návštěvu Kišiněva jsem si sice rozdělil na více částí během týdne, ale přesto jsem stihl projít skoro celé město. Na Kisiněvě zaujalo centrum s velkým parkem Cathedral Park, kde se nachází Cathedral of Christ's Nativity a The Triumphal Arch. Today, we’re tackling a question that is not so easy to answer satisfactorily. You would hardly find an online discussion of the question, why is Moldova not part of Romania, without sentimental arguments. Almost all that have attempted to discuss it assertively have received some backlash. We understand that emotions can get in the way of how this issue will be presented and received. Nevertheless, we can’t continue to shy away from it. No matter how sensitive the question is, we according to our standard shall tell you what we’ve found to be the unflavored truth without any biased leaning. Moldova and Romanian in Brief
Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is officially called the Republic of Moldova. It is bordered by Romania to the west (please note that important fact). Its northern, eastern, and southern borders are shared with Ukraine. The state of Transnistria is on the country's eastern border with Ukraine. Chișinău is the capital and largest city of Moldova.
Moldova is the second poorest nation in Europe by GDP per capita. Much of its GDP is contributed by the service sector. Moldova has one of the lowest Human Development Indexes (HDIs) in Europe, ranking 76th in the world as of 2022. It is a member state of the UN, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Council of Europe (EUCO), and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development among other international organizations.
Romania is a country located at the intersection of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The country borders Bulgaria to the south and Ukraine to the north. Its western border is shared with Hungary while the southwestern is shared with Serbia. More instructive to this discussion is the fact that it shares its eastern border with Moldova while the Black Sea is at its southeast. Romania is the 12th-largest country in Europe and the 6th-most populous nation in the European Union. Bucharest is the capital and largest city in Romania. It currently enjoys full membership in the European Union (EU), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), European Council (EUCO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

How Safe Is Moldova for Travel?

Moldova is a small country located in Eastern Europe, north of the Balkans, squeezed in between Romania to the southwest, across the Prut river, and Ukraine to the northeast.

Moldova doesn’t have a good reputation with tourists, and during the last decade it was famously called the ‘least happy place in the world’ in the bestseller The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World, and apart from that, it’s considered to be one of the poorest countries in Europe

Overall, Moldova is a relatively safe country to visit. Not too popular with visitors, it is a country where tourism is only starting to develop. Moldova has its issues concerning crime rates and organized crime, but it is mainly safe and if you apply the basic precaution measures, you will minimize the chances of something going wrong.

CHISINAU, MOLDOVA - Chisinau often has the reputation of being the most boring city in Europe - as always I like to go against the grain and prove that it isn't!

Where is Moldova? It's a country (former Soviet Republic) between Ukraine and Romania - the official language is Romanian.

Chisinau is a small city (formerly Kishinev prior to the break up of the Soviet Union) part of the region formerly known as Moldavia. It's full of cool Soviet Architecture! Check out the Triumphal Arch, Cathedrals, Parliament Building and many Orthadox churches, as well as typical plain and grey soviet buildings!

And of course, do not forget Moldovan Wine!

I had a wonderful time exploring their capital city, Chisinau and would highly recommend it. Moldova is incredibly budget friendly if you're coming from the west and I found it to be very welcoming.
