Touched by a Wild Mountain Gorilla (short)

Silverback gorilla almost steps on my foot! REAL close encounter with huge gorilla! #shorts

This dominant silverback gorilla passed just inches away from me. Our local guide gave a very simple order at this point: Just stay where you are!

These gorilla encounters in the wild are one of the most intense and memorable ones anybody can have.

In the forests of Uganda and Rwanda, anybody can have similar experiences to this one. Of course, we are keeping our distance from the wild animals, but the gorillas do whatever they want to do. So if they come close, they come close.

Since they are used to having people around for an hour every day, they literally look at us as part of their surroundings. Until we stay respectful and non-threatening they literally will not be bothered by us.

This creates a unique and amazing opportunity, where you can observe the group of gorillas from very close, sometimes feeling you are right there within their group, but without altering their behavior.

These tours are expensive, but that's a good thing. The money goes to conservation and is a very important income source not only to the communities living around the forests but also to the entire country.

Lowland Silverback Gorilla in the Republic of Congo

Visiting a Silverback Gorilla in the Lesio Louna Reserve near Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. The Gorillas are kept in the wild but live on islands and are fed by boat. We were able to witness one of the feedings from the boat and were only a few meters away from these impressive animals.

Mountain gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Mountain gorillas are highly endangered species, only about 880 are left in the world, they all live in four national parks in DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. The National Parks organize trekking for small groups to visit and watch the gorillas. The visits last one hour.

Virunga National Park, in the eastern part of DR Congo, was the first Africa's national park, established in 1825, and UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979.

Recorded January 2017 in 4K Ultra HD with Sony AX100.

Mountain gorillas in Rwanda

In the bamboo cloud forest, on the slopes of the volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains in Central Africa, live the magnificent mountain gorillas. In the forests also live beautiful golden monkeys.

Accompanied by very knowledgeable local guides, I visited them with a friend, in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, in 2011.

We were very impressed.

WOAH! What I just experienced today in Uganda is something that I'll never EVER forget - SEEING MOUNTAIN GORILLAS IN THE WILD!

Mountain gorillas are critically endangered - there are less that 800 of them left in the world and they can only be found in this mountain range (which is shared with Rwanda and the Congo).

We had to trek through thick, wet & dense jungle in Bwindi National Park, Uganda for 2 hours each way (which was not that easy), but we finally did it. I sat there in amazement as I observed a family of 6, and I am still shocked by how similar we are to these guys! We share 96.4% of their DNA - can you believe that?!

If you come to Africa, you NEED TO PUT THIS GORILLA EXPERIENCE IN UGANDA AS #1 ON YOUR LIST!!! TRUST ME!
