The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway is a causeway in Kuwait with an estimated construction value of approximately US$2,66 billion[5] Under China's Belt and Road Initiative, the causeway is part of the first phase of the Silk City project.[6] The causeway spans the Bay of Kuwait in two directions and comprises two projects: Main Link, which connects Kuwait City with northern Kuwait (including Subiya and Bubiyan Island); and Doha Link, which connects Kuwait City with Doha. It crosses two artificial islands (Bay Island North and Bay Island South) which were constructed for entertainment and tourism purposes.[7] The causeway project is part of Kuwait Vision 2035.[3]

The Sheikh Jaber Causeway, named after the late Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah who reigned during the Gulf War, is 36 kilometres long – making it the fourth-longest bridge in the world. Approximately 80 per cent of the bridge is over water and will connect Kuwait City to Subiya, where a 100-billion dollar mega-city is being built. The bridge also makes Kuwait’s largest island 30 minutes from the Gulf state’s capital, having previously been a nearly two-hour drive.

(design speed of a 100 km/hr, with a total length of 48 km)
Achieving the Royal vision of his Highness the Emir of Kuwait paves the way for a broad horizon of development and prosperity and to be a motive for more achievement and developments on the land of nobility, peace and humanity.
This links Kuwait city to the future Development of the north areas, with the two links of the causeway Subiyah and Doha link. Subiyah link is 36 km long, and Doha link is 12 km, Hence, a total length of 48 km.
It is considered the longest marine bridge built by the hands of mankind.
In order to achieve the highest international standard of bridge engineering, the world's experts from east and west have in order to design the mega bridge, as this is one of the largest transportation ans infrastructure projects in Kuwait and the region.
Kuwait has the right to be proud of this great achievement, which has transformed a long-awaited dream into a reality. And which paves the way for a broad horizon of development and prosperity and to be a motive for more achievement and developments on the land of nobility, peace and humanity.
The great news is that a new vegetation habitat was made in this project area, with a one thousand PC concrete colony, on which artificial reefs were planted , in coordination with EPA and international environmental consultant, in order to ensure compensation of the marine environment and to avoid negative impact on Kuwait bay
This project includes 2 artificial islands withe an area of approximately 280,000 sq. m.
This includes traffic monitoring and control centers and to ensure safety and control of traffic on the road 600 cameras were distributed along the bridge.

ABOUT Bridge :
The Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah causeway project, which includes two causeway paths over the Kuwait Bay, is the world’s biggest maritime causeway project.
Undertaken by Kuwait Ministry of Public Works (MPW), the $3bn project involved the construction of a 36km road to Subiyah and a 13km connection to Doha. Construction commenced in November 2013 and the causeway was officially inaugurated in May 2019.
The causeway project reduces the distance between Kuwait City and Subiyah in the northern part of Kuwait, as well as decreases the travelling time from 90 minutes to less than 30 minutes.
The government is also developing a new residential area, named as the Silk City, in Subiyah for 500,000 inhabitants. The city is being developed to renew the ancient Silk Road trade route between China and Kuwait.

Kuwait plan for northern mega city faces political hurdles
Kuwait on Wednesday inaugurated one of the world’s longest causeways, linking Kuwait City with Al-Subiya area to become a major free trade hub.
The 36-kilometre bridge connects Kuwait City to the northern desert area of Subbiya, where Kuwait aims to create the “Silk City” project linking the Gulf to central Asia and Europe.
The “Jaber” bridge, named after late ruler Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, spans 36 kilometres (22 miles), three-quarters of it over water.
It cuts the driving time between Kuwait City and Subbiya, close to both Iraq and Iran, from 90 minutes to less than half an hour. The traffic on the bridge will be monitored 24/7 through CCTV cameras by the Ministry of Interior.The work was carried out by a consortium led by South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. along with Kuwait’s Combined Group Contracting Co.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kuwait’s emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah along with South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and the leader of the French senate, Gerard Larcher.
Lee Nak-yeon said Wednesday the causeway would establish Kuwait as an international trade centre.
