This is the French paradise in Africa! Far away in the Indian Ocean is an incredible nature paradise island called La Réunion. Between Mauritius and Madagascar, this island has crazy white beaches, stunning volcanic landscapes, lush waterfalls and cosy colonial towns.
During our two week family holiday full of sun, beaches, hikes and great food, I show you all the highlights of La Réunion and all the top sights. At the airport in Saint-Denis we rent a car and drive to Boucan Canot, a hotspot near the best beaches. We visit the best snorkeling spot at Plage de l'Hermitage and drive down south to Saint-Pierre. We visit the volcanos at Piton de la Fournaise and see the best jungle waterfall Cascade de Grand Galet. Of course we brought the drone for perfect 4K footage. This video is the perfect guide for a family holiday to Reunion Island!
In the previous episodes you saw how we made a road trip from Cape Town to Kruger Park in South-Africa. We drove the Cape Namibia Route along the West Coast to look for animals in the Kalahari Desert. After that we crossed the border into Namibia, where we drove straight through the world's highest sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. We saw all the sights in Namibia and wend on for a safari in Etosha National Park. Lately we visited Botswana and Zimbabwe, to cross the border again back to South Africa. After the Kruger Park, we fly out of Johannesburg to take you island hopping on Mauritius and also the French island of La Réunion.
Our journey through Africa is part of a one and a half year trip around the world. We can even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. La Réunion is already destination number 26, after Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Zanzibar & Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mauritius. We have also been away from home for one and a half year now. Follow us on this world tour, now in La Réunion and then to many more beautiful destinations across the globe! Réunion is an island in the Indian Ocean (African Continent) that is a region of France ????????
Earlier you needed a Schengen visa to visit the island, however, the rules have been simplified for us, Indians (for stays of up to 15 days). All you need to do is -
1. Contact a local travel agency that is offering a package tour and they will then contact the agency on Reunion Island with a license to request visa waivers
2. Or apply to an incoming agency on Reunion Island for a visa waiver stamped form

Saint-Denis is the prefecture (administrative capital) of the French overseas department and region of Réunion, in the Indian Ocean. It is located at the island's northernmost point, close to the mouth of the Rivière Saint-Denis.
Saint-Denis is the most populous commune in the French overseas departments and the nineteenth most populous in all of France. La Reunion bietet eine bunte Mischung aus kolonialer Vergangenheit und europäischer Moderne. St. Denis ist das Paris des Indischen Ozeans. Von der Hauptstadt starten die Touren Richtung Süden zu den Cirques, den unwegsamen Talkesseln von Cilaos, Salazie und Mafate. Der Piton de la Fournaise erhebt sich 3000 Meter über das Meer und zählt zu den aktivsten Vulkanen weltweit.

► Reunion Island is a French department of the Indian Ocean. It is famous for its volcanic interior covered with rainforest, its coral reefs and beaches. Its most emblematic site is the Piton de la Fournaise, an active volcano that can be climbed and rises to 2632 m altitude. The Piton des Neiges, a huge extinct volcano, and the 3 calderas of Reunion (natural amphitheatres formed by volcanoes that have collapsed) are also climbing spots.

REUNION ISLAND: ultieme reisgids met VULKANEN en STRANDEN in de Indische Oceaan
Dit is het Franse paradijs in Afrika! Ver weg in de Indische Oceaan ligt een ongelofelijk natuurparadijseiland genaamd La Réunion. Tussen Mauritius en Madagaskar ligt dit eiland met waanzinnige witte stranden, prachtige vulkanische landschappen, weelderige watervallen en gezellige koloniale stadjes.
Tijdens onze twee weken durende familievakantie vol zon, strand, hikes en lekker eten laat ik je alle hoogtepunten van La Réunion zien en alle topattracties. Op het vliegveld in Saint-Denis huren we een auto en rijden we naar Boucan Canot, een hotspot vlakbij de mooiste stranden. We bezoeken de beste snorkelplek bij Plage de l'Hermitage en rijden zuidwaarts naar Saint-Pierre. We bezoeken de vulkanen bij Piton de la Fournaise en zien de beste junglewaterval Cascade de Grand Galet. Uiteraard hebben wij de drone weer bij ons voor perfecte 4K beelden. Deze video is de perfecte gids voor een gezinsvakantie naar het eiland Réunion!
In de voorgaande afleveringen zag je hoe we een roadtrip maakten van Kaapstad naar het Krugerpark in Zuid-Afrika. We reden de Cape Namibia Route langs de westkust om dieren te zoeken in de Kalahari-woestijn. Daarna staken we de grens over naar Namibië, waar we dwars door de hoogste zandduinen ter wereld reden in de Sossusvlei. We hebben alle bezienswaardigheden in Namibië gezien en zijn op safari gegaan in Etosha National Park. De afgelopen tijd hebben we Botswana en Zimbabwe bezocht, om vervolgens weer de grens over te steken terug naar Zuid-Afrika. Na het Krugerpark vliegen we vanuit Johannesburg de Indische Oceaan over om te gaan eilandhoppen op Mauritius en dus ook het Franse eiland La Réunion.

Op nieuwjaarsdag zijn we begonnen op Lanzarote en Fuerteventura, de Canarische Eilanden. La Réunion is al bestemming nummer 26, na Oman, Kaapverdië, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, de Bahama’s, de Verenigde Staten, Mexico, Ecuador, de Galapagoseilanden, Brazilië, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesië, Vietnam, Maleisië, Australië, de Filippijnen, Zanzibar en Tanzania, Namibië, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zuid-Afrika en Mauritius. Réunion is an island in the Indian Ocean that is an overseas department and region of France. It is located approximately 679 km (422 mi) east of the island of Madagascar and 175 km (109 mi) southwest of the island of Mauritius. As of January 2023, it had a population of 873,102.
Like the other four overseas departments, Réunion also holds the status of a region of France, and is an integral part of the French Republic. Réunion is an outermost region of the European Union and is part of the eurozone. Réunion and the fellow French overseas department of Mayotte are the only eurozone regions located in the Southern Hemisphere.
Lo Mavéli or Lö Mahavéli, the unofficial flag of Réunion from 2003 used officially by various local authorities, like Saint-Denis and Saint-Philippe.
As in the rest of France, the official language of Réunion is French. In addition, a majority of the region's population speaks Réunion Creole.
