Al Alam Palace:
The Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of Sultan Qaboos of Oman located in Old Muscat, Oman.
Al Alam means The Flag in Arabic. The palace, one of six royal residences of the ruling monarch, Sultan Qaboos, has a history of over 200 years, built by Imam Sultan bin Ahmed the 7th direct grandfather of the current Sultan. The existing palace, which has a facade of gold and blue, was rebuilt as a royal residence in 1972.The inner grounds of the palace remain off-limits but visitors are permitted to stop near the gates and take photographs. Al Alam Palace is surrounded by the Mirani and Jalali Forts built in the 16th century by the Portuguese.
The Palace is used for official functions and receiving distinguished visitors and in January 2012, the Sultan received Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands at Al Alam Palace during her state visit to Oman.
Author Peter J. Ochs wrote: When you visit the main gates of Al Alam Palace, it is unlike any other capital you will ever visit. The palace itself is elegant but humble in design, unlike the grandiose structures of other capitals. Elegantly designed, it features many highly polished marble surfaces. Government buildings in the vicinity are white, with crenallated rooftops and wooden balconies in the traditional Omani style. Though primarily a ceremonial palace, there is a guest villa at the palace with its own pool, spa and walled gardens.
Al Jalai Fort, or Ash Sharqiya Fort, is a fort in the harbor of Old Muscat, Oman. The fort was built by the Portuguese Empire ordered by Philip I of Portugal in the 1580s to protect the harbor after Muscat had twice been sacked by Ottoman forces. It fell to Omani forces in 1650. During the civil wars between 1718 and 1747, the fort was twice captured by Persians who had been invited to assist one of the rival Imams. The fort was extensively rebuilt later.Wikipedia

Join us for a quick visit to the beautiful port city of Khasab on northern Oman’s Musandam Peninsula that separates the Persian Gulf from the Gulf of Oman.
Often dubbed the “Norway of the East,” Khasab features extensive fjord-like rocky inlets and wide-reaching barren mountainscapes.
After visiting the futuristic tourist hubs of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the calm and historic Khasab offered a nice change of pace.
As soon as we disembarked the gorgeous MSC Bellissima cruise ship, we were advised to hire a shuttle to take us sightseeing around Khasab. As we started our two-hour tour, we noticed the rocky, rugged terrain surrounding this small city.
Our ride continued up a winding narrow road to reach the Khawr Najd (Khor Najd), but the stunning view overlooking this natural creek was worth every bump along the way.
From there, we headed towards Khasab’s old souk which was unlike the bustling, shiny markets we had encountered before. It was more like a few local stores, food stalls, and craft shops in one place and it was quite affordable.
The last stop of the day was Khasab Castle. This castle was built in the 17th century atop an ancient fort by the Portuguese at the height of their presence in the area. The fort doubled as a museum where we learned about the history, customs, and traditions of the locals and their traditional medicine.
We had an awesome, funny tour guide and a great time in Khasab. All too soon, it was time to go back to the Bellissima for some awesome food. And, needless to say, they didn’t disappoint. We were right on time for super delicious pasta and desserts. The food was so good that we couldn’t decide what to have so we had a little bit of everything.
Completely full and satisfied, we occupied one of the conference rooms to go over our plans for a future trip.
Then, we moved to a champagne bar so the girls could do some homework (yes, you read that right). Having all those computers and phones around us, people thought we were part of the tech team or even a film crew.
For dinner, we visited the Butcher’s Cut restaurant (again) because we simply couldn’t resist their gourmet food and desserts.
The night was reserved for fun and good times. We danced the night away and took many pictures to remind us of the wonderful evening we had together.

Manah Public Park, Nizwa Oman
Welcome to Techy Matters,
Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, has opened Manah Public Park in the Wilayat of Manah. The park was set up as per the Royal orders of the Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Besides benefitting locals of Manah and its neighboring wilayats, the park also serves as a resting point for travelers on the Nizwa-Thumrait road.
Manah Public Park is Built on an area of 120,000sqm. Manah Public Park parks has several facilities and amenities, including four open theatres. Two of the theatres have a capacity of 500 people each, making these suitable to hold events.
Green landscapes cover approximately 45,000sqm of the park. It has over 130 palm trees, 800 flowering plants and various ornamental trees. Additionally, it has shaded nurseries on an area of 800sqm.
