Exploring Grossinger's Abandoned Resort

Support my videos, and help keep them ad-free

Between 1920 and 1970, the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York were dotted with summer resorts catering to Jewish patrons.

This area became known as the Borscht Belt.

One of the largest was Grossinger's Resort Hotel - it is rumored to be the inspiration for the movie Dirty Dancing.

In the 1980s, air travel made vacationing in the Catskills less attractive. One after another, the Borscht Belt resorts filed for bankruptcy and closed. Today they sit abandoned.

Island of NIUE: Empty, ☹️ abandoned homes after huge storm destroys island

Island of Niue, Pacific Ocean - abandoned homes in Niue in the Pacific Ocean after strong cyclone of Heta. After cyclone Heta, let's visit the abandoned and destroyed homes in the island nation of Niue in the South Pacific Ocean. Let's go inside the abandoned homes in the island of Niue to see how everything was left 12 years ago after the horrible cyclone Heta hit Niue in 2004. Cyclone Heta hammered the tiny Pacific island of Niue in 2004. As a result, many homes in Niue were destrpyed and remained abandoned many years later.
Satellite images showed that Niue was directly in the path of the cyclone Heta. Reports said Niue had been experiencing gale force winds all day and the centre of the cyclone could bring sustained winds of over 200 kilometres an hour with gusts of up to 280 kilometres an hour.
Telephone lines to the 260 square kilometre coral atoll were cut earlier in the day as it had lowered its radio masts ahead of the cyclone.
Ready told the New Zealand Press Association, It's a full-blown hurricane - it's up there with the best of them.
He said damage was likely to be considerable. Alipate Waqaicelua, an officer at the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) in Nadi, Fiji, told Radio New Zealand that the cyclone should leave Niue in the clear by early Wednesday morning.
But reports said that depending on the extent of the damage, it could be days before communications with Niue - one of the poorest Pacific island states - are restored and details are known.
