BONZOUR from the beautiful African island nation of MAURITIUS!

(I didn't misspell 'Bonzour,' it means 'Hello' in their language of Creole, which is very similar to French) ;)

If you are like I was a few days ago, then you don't know much about this hidden country of Mauritius, which lies off the southeastern coast of Africa.

But after getting in touch with some locals from Mauritius who have kindly introduced me to their culture and showed me around the island -- I have put together this video which highlights the most interesting things I've learned about Mauritius so far.

The humble people of Mauritius, all 1.2 million of them, are as diverse as I've seen in any single country. And that's because there is no indigenous population here -- every Mauritian today is a descendant from immigrants who came here centuries ago, mostly from India, France, Great Britain, East Africa (Madagascar) and China.

As a result, Mauritius is a melting pot of cultures, foods, religions, languages and ideas -- which is extra special for me because I love to dig deep into the local life! In today's video, see what I have discovered about the beautiful people of Mauritius.

Mauritius is one of the most romantic travel destinations in the world. In fact, Mauritius has won the World Award for Best Honeymoon Destination in three consecutive years. Famous for its turquoise lagoons and pristine white sand beaches, Mauritius is the most visited island in the Indian Ocean. The arrival of the newlyweds at the hotel is filled with sensual sega dancers, traditional island music, adding a dash of romance to the air. Did you know you don't have to use cash or credit cards when you travel to India? Now foreign tourists can load foreign currency into a digital wallet when they arrive at the airport. This technology is called UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and is India's impressive instant real-time payment system.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that facilitates inter-bank transactions. It allows users to transfer money from one bank account to another instantly and securely, without the need for the recipient's bank details like account number or IFSC code.

With UPI, users can make payments using their mobile phones, without the need for cash, credit/debit cards or net banking. UPI transactions can be initiated and completed using mobile apps provided by banks or third-party payment service providers.

UPI has become a popular mode of payment in India since its launch in 2016 and is now widely used for a variety of transactions, including peer-to-peer payments, bill payments, mobile recharges, and online shopping. The success of UPI has helped promote digital payments and financial inclusion in the country.
