Gulf blockade is related to Football World Cup of 2022 says UK author David Goldblatt

Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

Qatar’s aim to deliver a ‘carbon-zero’ 2022 FIFA World Cup is likely to set high sustainability standards for rest of the sporting events, a UK-based leading author said on Tuesday,
“Qatar has set very high standards for environmental protection. I think the 2022 World Cup is going to set the standards for future World Cups. The ambition and commitment of Qatar towards environment is very strong and very unique in global sports,” said David Goldblatt, who has written a number of books on football.
The bestselling British author, journalist and sociologist was speaking at a webinar “The 2022 World Cup in Qatar in Historical Perspective” which is part of the World Cup 2022 Lecture Series launched by Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q).
“The 2006 World Cup in Germany was the first one to have a proper dimension for the environmental aspects of the major sporting event. The 2014 and 2018 World Cup editions had full-scale carbon analysis. 2022 is genuinely different. The commitment of the Qatar government towards environment is really noteworthy for a carbon-zero event. The seriousness towards to this commitment is seen in the construction as well as the public transport arrangements for the World Cup,” said Goldblatt, who published his book “The Age of Football: The Global Game in the 21st Century” last year.
The Qatar 2022 World Cup, will be the first one to be held in the Middle East and in the winter month, during the month of December, instead of the traditional June-July period.
Goldblatt is an honorary fellow at the International Centre for Sports History and Culture, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK and teaches for the Geneva based Football Business Academy, and is a Visiting Professor at Pitzer College, Los Angeles.

A widely published author, his book “The Game of Our Lives: The Making and Meaning of English Football” (2014), was the winner of the 2015 William Hill Sports book prize
