Sandboarding the Desert Waves - Huacachina, Peru ????????

Sandboarding in Huacachina; Desert exploration of Peru! We take the dune buggy over some steep and thrilling edges. Wax up the sand boards and carve some fresh tracks in the untouched sand.

Episode 23

Our adventure through the desert took us up and down the sand dunes driving right up to the peak of the dune and when the dune buggy leaned forward it felt like we were going over the edge of a cliff! It’s an adventure because you can’t see over the edge and each dune is different so there’s no telling what lay ahead.

After the shock wore off we waxed up the sandboards and carved our way down the sand dunes of Peru. Kevin being a snowboarder went down standing up on his sandboard while the rest of us lay down. We found some of the steepest sand dunes making the sandboarding much faster and more fun than expected.

Even driving over the edge of the sand dune was a thrill. It felt like we were going to crash into a wall or faceplanet when we hit the bottom.

On one run there were 3 desert dogs that happen to appear from nowhere. They greeted us at the bottom and were very friendly enjoying the attention they received. None of us could figure out how or why these dog were in the middle of the desert with nothing but sand in sight, but they seemed like they knew what they were doing.

We kept surfing the dunes until the sun set, making it back to Huacachina just at the end of dusk. It capped off an amazing adventure covering over 100 miles this Peruvian desert. To see and do this much gave us a real desert experience we won’t forget.

Huacachina is backpacker’s paradise in the southwestern desert of Peru. This small mystical village in the Ica province is a natural oasis and is featured on the 50 sole (Peru’s official currency). With enormous sand dunes on all sides, it’s a wonder the town isn’t covered by the barren desert that surrounds it. Dune Buggies and Sandboards are the way of life around here, just don’t forget to bring the water or you may be seeing a mirage.

Mad Max Adventure in Huacachina, Peru?!

Adventuring around and riding dune buggies in the middle of a desert oasis called Huacachina in Peru.

HUACACHINA, PERU | An Oasis & Sand Boarding Desert Dunes!

The Oasis town of Huacachina is surrounded by massive dunes with a panorama view of the desert sprawling for miles in every direction. This amazing place was our third stop with Peru Hop. We were only here for one day but made the very best of it!

Normally you can rent dune buggies to take you around the peaks of the dunes for sand boarding. However, while we were here the Dakar rally was coming through so no buggies were allowed to drive the dunes.

Next up: We will be in the beautiful city of Arequipa and getting our first taste of the Andes!

---VLOG 4----

Hey Friends, Our names are Jordan and Tyler! Hopefully, we will manage to Vlog daily so we can share the amazing places we go & the people we meet all over in the world! On top of that we hope to help future travelers get inspired to follow there hearts and gain some tips & tricks along the way!

Thanks for watching!

Located North of Cusco and South of Lima you will find Ica. Home to the hidden Oasis of Huacachina. Getting there is simple, catch a bus from either location.

You have two choices, staying in Huacachina itself or staying at Upcycle hostel where we stayed and would highly recommend. Only a 5min drive from Ica, and a short 5min walk to the oasis.

Huacachina - Oasis Paradise ????????????

Huacachina - Oasis Paradise
???????? ☀️
In the midst of one of the driest climates in the world is an oasis town with lush palm trees, flourishing foliage, and a tranquil lagoon which is said to have curative properties.

Visitors from around the world enjoy their time spent here, sand boarding down to dunes with the dune buggies, taking wine tours, exploring the oasis, and lounging around one of the many hostels and hotels.

This video is part 2 of a 4 video series of our adventure down to Peru.

Please feel free to share! ????

Huacachina Desert Oasis Peru: What to Do in Huacachina Ica Peru

If you plan on visiting Huacachina, Ica, Peru on a budget, you have come to the right place. In this video, we are currently in our second half of Day 2 in Peru. We traveled with Peru Hop because they are known as a safe travel company around Peru and Bolivia.
——————
For PeruHop, we paid a total of $396.90 for two people with the To Cusco without the Canyon pass. For Huacachina, we spent:
Desert Nights Hostel - $25.20
Oasis de America - $5.18
Pisco Sour @ Wild Rover Hostel - FREE with Peru Hop
Lomo Saltado @ Wild Rover Hostel - $6.49
——————
It was our day 2 in Peru. After leaving Paracas, we boarded Peru Hop's bus to Huacachina. This road trip took about 1 hour. We arrived at Huacachina around 2 PM, and we checked-in to our hostel, the Desert Nights Hostel. Here, we had 2 beds. After dropping our bags off, we went to look for a Menu del Dia (Menu of the Day). Menu de Dia is typically a super cheap menu between certain hours--it is kind of like Happy Hour.

Prior to traveling, we had an itinerary, and Oasis de America was on there for lunch. Little did we realize that Oasis de America was literally right next door to the Desert Nights Hostel. At the Oasis de America, we ordered one meal from the menu (Aguadito de Pollo (Peruvian Chicken Soup), Tallarin Verde con Pollo Apanado (Peruvian-Style Spaghetti Pesto), and an Inka Kola) to share. All of this for around $5, and we were both full. I have to commend this restaurant because the food and service were outstanding.

After eating, we roamed a bit and decided to take a route up the sand dunes. Personally, we enjoyed it, even though Cindy wishes that Jordan could have just paid for the tour. Cindy thinks that hiking the sand dunes without shoes is better, while Jordan thinks hiking the sand dunes with shoes is better. What do you think?

One regret we had was that we wished we could have hiked the bigger dunes. We had the time to do so when we originally started, but we were literally on the other side of the dunes when regret started to kick in.

Word of advice: If you are in Huacachina and you would like to hike the sand dunes, hike the bigger sand dune that is behind Wild Olive Trattoria & Guest House. We hiked the sand dune behind the Desert Nights Hostel, and it was impressive, but it could have been better at a higher elevation.

It was dark on our way back from hiking. We returned to the Desert Nights Hostel to clean up, and we headed towards the Wild Rover Hostel. If you're with Peru Hop, you get a free drink. If you have never been to the Wild Rover Hostel, and you come late at night, it may look sketchy, so just be safe.

While we were at the Wild Rover Hostel, we had our Pisco sours mixed. It was pretty good. Eventually, we got hungry, so we ordered a Lomo Saltado. That, there, was delicious. We decided not to stay for the party and games, so we went back to our hotel and called it a night.
——————
For more information:

If you get the chance and have the money, I suggest either doing the Huacachina Peru Sandboarding Tour, Huacachina Peru Dune Buggy Tour, or just renting a sandboard. Personally, I really did enjoy hiking up and down the sand dunes, but the only regret I have is not renting a sandboard to go down the hill. To tour, it is about $15 per person. You can ask different people/companies to rent their sandboards.

If you have the time and energy, the older version of the 50 soles has a location of Huacachina on it. Try looking for it and take a picture!

If you are with Peru Hop, they will encourage you to book a room with Wild Rover Hostel because the rooms will be discounted. We did the math, and the room we had at the Desert Nights Hostel was substantially cheaper. Also, if you can't sleep when it's noisy, don't bother staying there.

At the Desert Nights Hostel, we had a shared bathroom with the floor. There's a female bath and a male bath. We stayed in a room right by the general area with couches. There were others sleeping there overnight. It's just an assumption because I have not verified this information yet, but if you are low on cash and you're a solo/couple traveler(s), try asking if you can sleep on the couch and use their amenities for a small fee.

Huacachina is truly a beautiful village.

Sand dunes and Sandstorms - Huacachina, Peru ????????

Episode 21

We started our adventure by climbing the tallest sand dune to get the best view of Huacachina. This task is easier said than done and we found that out first hand.

Robbie had his shoes filled with sand while Fil was behind everyone after being mistakenly locked out of our room so he took the most direct and most difficult path up the sand dune which proved to be an incredible challenge.

Peter climbed as high as he could with no water and stopped to get camera shots but had his main camera bag fall and get filled with sand. It took many many hours to clean up the mess.

Later that day we booked a dune buggy tour to explore the Pacific coast which is about 1.5 hours away. On our way there we were unexpectedly met by a sandstorm which had small sand bits and stones hitting your face so we all covered up with our sunglasses and hat.

After the unpleasant experience was finally over we were met with the stunning sights and scenes of the Pacific Ocean. Fil and Kevin found out how cold the Pacific Ocean was when a big wave caught them off guard and soaked them. This Pacific Coastline was vast and we took our dune buggy up the shoreline to explore more.

Amid the rolling sand dunes of this Peruvian desert, an oasis springs from nowhere, adding life to the landscape. Today, this naturally occurring oasis has a surrounding village, Huacachina, with a population of about 100 residents.
