We start a new series about travel videos, really bad places where you don't want to live. Let's start out with a place not too far away from my hometown, Balkan settlement in Zvolen, Slovakia
This building was completely new in the early 2000's, in 2011 there was a big fire, which destroyed part of the building.
The building was not reconstructed since then, as the 40 apartments are privately owned, so the city cannot help, even though it owns 4 apartments.

It does not matter if you look for historic architecture or great nightlife, Banská Bystrica, this fairytale medieval city this city offers everything. Its main street is full of colorful medieval houses that will take your breath away. The must-see tourist attraction is the baroque-style Clock Tower. It also served as a watchtower in order to observe if an enemy was approaching but also to watch if a fire started somewhere in the city. The city played an important role during the Slovak National Uprising against Nazis in 1944 and its open-air museum of heavy military equipment is located in the middle of a park. The oldest building is the late Romanesque parish church of the Virgin Mary from the second half of the 13th century. From Bratislava, Banská Bystrica is easily accessible by highway or by train.

Zvolen Travel
Zvolen Travel - Zvolen (Hungarian: Zólyom, German: Altsohl) is a town in central Slovakia, situated on the confluence of Hron and Slatina rivers, close to Banská Bystrica. With its ancient castle, the town has a historical center, which represents the seat of an okres (Zvolen District).
Zvolen has been inhabited since the Paleolithic. In the 9th century, a Slavic settlement (today the Môťová neighborhood) became a regional center of what is now central Slovakia. Zvolen remained the capital of Zólyom county until the 1760s. In the 11th and 12th centuries, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe, Pustý hrad, was constructed. The town, originally built under the castle, lay on an important trade route (Via Magna) from Buda to Kraków. Zvolen was granted town privileges by King Béla IV in the 1230s - as one of the first towns in the Kingdom of Hungary. The privileges were confirmed on December 28, 1243, after the original document was destroyed in war. Later, King Louis I the Great built a new castle, which became a popular hunting resort of the Hungarian kings. The future queen regnant Mary of Hungary and emperor Sigismund celebrated their wedding there in 1385.

Lying in Slovakia is typical for its continuous forest, long valleys and the largest locality of original yew tree occurrence in Europe. I think the best thing about hiking in the Great Fatra is less infrastructure. I mean, it´s comfortable to have a chance to visit a mountain hut almost in every valley and have a tasty lunch there, like it´s possible in the High Tatras, but on the other hand, the less infrustruture means less tourists. And it´s probably because this area is not so well known to the outside world. The Great Fatra is completely different to the High Tatras. The hiking paths are not rocky as in the High Tatras, it is possible to do ridge hikes...

Bratislava Castle, the landmark overlooking the capital, was built in the 9th century. It stands on the hill above Danube River. Eleven kings and eight queens were crowned in Bratislava in the past. No wonder that the castle is a popular part of excursions through the city.
The castle stands on an important crossroad of the ancient routes. First traces of the settlement on the hill stretch back to the stone and bronze age. The place had its strategic geographical importance in the period of The Great Moravian Empire.
First Hungarian king Stephen I (11th century) ruled over the empire from his seat inside the castle. It remained unconquered during the Tartar raids (1241-1242) and protected Hungary against the attacks from the west. Also, since Vienna is right around a corner, the castle provided a protection for this city too.
