So it was Shivani's birthday on Sunday (16/01/2022), and we decided to head out to explore the beautiful city of Bruges, the capital of West Flanders in northwest Belgium.
This beautiful city is known for its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. We explored Burg Square, which features a 13th-century Belfry Tower, 83m tall with panoramic views. To reach the top of the Belfry Tower, you have to climb a whopping 366 steps. And guess what? That's what we did!!!

Bruges / Brugge may be small, but it has over 80 bridges making it easy to navigate the city and get from one side of the canals to the other. Due to the sheer amount of canals and bridges, Bruges is known as ‘Venice of the North.

Our plan was to unwind in this spectacular city with scenic views. The best way to do that was to eat chocolates made in Brugge only. Some dubious chocolate stores sell chocolate not even made in Belgium as being from Bruges. To counter this issue, the municipality has designed a logo for visitors to spot stores where the chocolate is indeed “made in Bruges”: look for the cacao pod framed by two swans. I hope this tip will enhance your experience of eating chocolates because...CHOCOLATE EATING IS AN EMOTION!!

Now it was time to eat Shivani's favourite food, which is hot steamy MOMOS!! You can find many restaurants in Market Square, but her heart craved for Chinese on her birthday eve.
We believe the best way to explore any city is by walking through the streets and enjoying food. That was it for our day 1. We headed back to our beautiful Airbnb and called in Musafir 2's birthday with a small celebration.

But hey, guess what? We are not done yet as we have another day to enjoy this city with lots of exciting activities! So stay tuned as we have a Part 2 coming up super soon.

We are DNF, geocachers and vanlifers!

We - GeoKars and GEOrgCACHING - were both geocachers travelling a lot with out motorhomes to (mega) geocaching events in Europe. That's how we met and became friends. It took us about half a year to become lovers and another half year to sell one of our RV's. Good example of your best friends are other geocachers, don't you think?

And of course we also needed a geocaching nickname together. So our mutual avatar was born: DNF. Why DNF? GEOrgCACHING is from Germany and GeoKars is from The Netherlands. For us DNF does not mean Did Not Find (the geocache), but Deutsch Niederländische Freundschaft which means German Dutch Friendship.
