Flemish Ardennes in Belgium

The Flemish Ardennes (Dutch: Vlaamse Ardennen) is an informal name given to a hilly region in the south of the province of East Flanders, Belgium. Highest summit is the Hotondberg (145 m). Main characteristics of the region are rural hilly landscapes with hilltop bluebell woodlands (Muziekbos, Brakelbos, Kluisbos), windmills and watermills.

The area is distinct from the Ardennes, which is further to the south in Wallonia, France and Luxembourg.

Among the largest towns in the area are Oudenaarde, Ronse, Zottegem and Geraardsbergen.

Cycling is particularly popular in the area. Many major bike races are held here, including a large part of the Tour of Flanders. Most of its toughest climbs (Koppenberg, Taaienberg, Molenberg, Paterberg, Oude Kwaremont, Muur van Geraardsbergen, Eikenberg) and most of its cobblestone-street sections (Paddestraat) are situated in the Flemish Ardennes. from wikipedia

De Scheepslift van Strépy-Thieu is een scheepslift op het Centrumkanaal in de Belgische provincie Henegouwen. De lift ligt op de grens van Strépy-Bracquegnies en Thieu, vandaar de dubbele naam Strépy-Thieu. Het
kunstwerk overbrugt het hoogteverschil met het Henegouws Plateau. Deze bouw was nodig omdat het nabijgelegen historische kanaal te klein was geworden om de industriële activiteiten van de regio de nodige faciliteiten te bieden.

Herfstsprookje in het Hof Ter Beke in Wilrijk bij Antwerpen

Welkom in het Hof Ter Beke in Wilrijk bij de Belgische stad Antwerpen. Wij bevinden ons aan de Terbekehofdreef vlakbij de Belgische autosnelweg A12. Middenin het park ligt het kasteel Hof ter Beke, het enige kasteel in Wilrijk met een toren. Dit beschermde monument in Vlaamse neorenaissance stijl staat op fundamenten uit de 14de eeuw. Het is een plek met veel geschiedenis, grandeur, klasse en verhalen die de voorbije jaren vooral over het verval ervan gingen. Het is een waar Château Hof ter Beke. Nu heeft het gerenoveerde Hof ter Beke een nieuwe bestemming. Rond het kasteel ligt ook een mooie vijver met watervogels. Het omliggende park is een beschermd gebied. Op het domein vinden wij ook nog een echte boerderij terug.

Welcome to the Hof Ter Beke in Wilrijk near the Belgian city of Antwerp. In the middle of the park you will find the castle Hof ter Beke. It is the only castle in Wilrijk with a tower. This protected monument in Flemish neo-Renaissance style stands on the foundations of the 14th century. It is a place with a lot of history, grandeur, class and stories that in recent years have mainly been about its decline. Recently it was renovated and has a new destination. Around the castle is also a beautiful pond. The surrounding park is a protected area. On the domain there is a real farm.

เมืองนี้เป็นเมืองที่อยู่ใน list ของทุกคนที่มาเที่ยวเบลเยียมอยู่แล้ว เป็นเมืองท่องเที่ยวชื่อดังที่เที่ยวเองได้ง่ายมากๆ ก่อนไปก็ดูพยากรณ์เกือบทุกวัน ขอให้ไร้เมฆไร้ฝน โชคดีที่วันที่แพลนไว้ (แถมจองขึ้นหอระฆังไว้ล่วงหน้า) เป็นวันฟ้าใสไร้ฝน สวยจริงๆค่ะ คือถ้าใครมาวันฟ้าใสๆนะคะ หนึ่งวันก็ไม่พอค่ะ ถ่ายรูปจนไม่ได้ต่อคิวลงเรือ ไม่ได้ลองชิมทั้งวาฟเฟิลและช็อคโกแลตร้านดังเลยทีเดียว นอกจากสถานที่ที่พาไปเที่ยวในคลิป โซนด้านเหนือและด้านตะวันออกของเมืองยังมีที่เที่ยวที่น่าสนใจอีกหลายจุดเลยค่ะ

St Martin's Church, Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium - 9th January, 2013

The Saint-Martin's Church (Sint-Maartenskerk in Dutch) is the main church and one of the principal Gothic monuments of Kortrijk, Flanders, Belgium. The church is dedicated to the saint Martin of Tours and was built between 1390 and 1466. This church was built after the devastation of the first gothic Saint Martin's church, which was located at the place where before a Roman church stood (built in 650).

This film features both external and internal views of the church, including the clock tower, the architecture, structure, ceiling, columns, internal decor, flowers, stained glass windows, pulpit, wood carvings, organ, statues, paintings, sculptures, candles and various other Christian icons.

Domein Breivelde in Zottegem : lente in licht en liefde : een reportage van Catherine Boone

Het domein Breivelde in Grotenberge bij Zottegem in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen is een bijzonder natuurgebied waar mens en natuur met elkaar verbonden zijn. Naast het alom bekende kasteel in neo-Vlaamse-renaissance stijl uit 1904 bezit het domein Breivelde enkele typische eigenaardigheden. Monumentale bomen pronken statig en zijn enorm waardevol. Naast de tuin in een landschappelijke Engelse stijl werden ook fonteinen en vijvers aangelegd waarin een rijke flora en fauna een vaste stekkie hebben gevonden.

Het domein Breivelde in Zottegem staat bekend om haar kasteel en het glooiende landschapspark dat op het einde van de 19de eeuw werden aangelegd door Philippe Planckaert van Exen. Ridder Walerand van Male de Ghorain heeft het park verder tot een mooi geheel afgewerkt tot in het jaar 1954. Sinds 1970 is het geheel een eigendom van de stad. Men heeft gebruik gemaakt van het steile terrein om een reeks vijvers, watervallen en hellende gazons aan te leggen. Op de grashellingen herkennen we bosschages waartussen de bezoeker verwend wordt met menige schilderachtige doorkijkjes. Rond de vijvers herkennen wij enkele exotische bomen in groepjes verdeeld met landelijke vergezichten op de heuvel of de vallei. De wandelaar maakt kennis met de es, drie reuzegrote Cedrus atlanta 'Glauca' en de Libanonceder. Moerascipressen langs de vijver verfraaien het geheel.

Tijdens mijn wandeling stond ik versteld van de pracht en praal van het domein. Zoveel nieuwe indrukken en veel mooie dingen gezien. Lentegevoelens ontwaken uit mijn diepe slaap.
