Zittau in der Oberlausitz - Sehenswürdigkeiten
Wir beginnen unseren Rundgang durch Zittau, einer Großen Kreisstadt im Landkreis Görlitz (Sachsen), am Bahnhof. Unser Weg führt dann vorbei am Wäntighaus und am Johanneum direkt zum Mittelpunkt der Stadt: der Johanniskirche und dem Marktplatz mit beeindruckendem Rathaus im Neorenaissancestil (nach Plänen von Karl Friedrich Schinkel). Bevor wir und den Neustadtplatz mit seinen drei Brunnen und dem Salzhaus anschauen, machen wir noch einen Abstecher zur Klosterkirche, dem Gerhart Hauptmann Theater, der Marienkirche und der Kreuzkirche. Am Ende unserer Besichtigung der sehr interessanten Stadt am Fuße des Zittauer Gebirges begeistert und das Pop-Art-Viertel Mandauer Glanz und das Stadtbad mit der Brunnensäule.

Saxony - Zittau and surroundings
Zittau is located in the southeastern corner of Saxony. In the border triangle between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic there is a real gem. The town was decked out beautifully in recent years. Then there is the enchanting surroundings. It is particularly attractive in winter.

Oder-Neiße-Radweg und Speerradweg gleichermaßen bezaubernd und unterschiedlich temperamentvoll – wie zweieiige Zwillinge – sind die bekanntesten Radwege der Region entlang der Spree und Neiße, die flussabwärts die schönsten Gegenden und Orte der Oberlausitz durchqueren und danach von den weitläufigen Flusslandschaften Brandenburgs begrüßt werden. Und das beste: die Zwillinge lassen sich hervorragend durch den Froschradweg im Norden und die Mittellandroute im Süden zu einer tollen Radrundreise kombinieren.

Zittau wurde einst von den Nachbarstädten der Umgebung ehrfurchtsvoll „die Reiche“ genannt und ein Spaziergang durch die historische Altstadt zeigt, dass dieser Name wohl durchaus seine Berechtigung hatte.
Barocke Stadtpaläste umsäumen den Marktplatz und beherbergen heute viele Cafés und Geschäfte. In dessen Mitte steht das nach dem großen Stadtbrand im Stile eines italienischen Palastes neu errichtete Rathaus und prägt gemeinsam mit den unverkennbaren Türmen der Zittauer Hauptkirche St. Johannis das Stadtbild. Über die vom historischen Salzhaus dominierte Neustadt führt der Weg entlang des Grünen Ringes zur Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz. Hier ist das in Europa einzigartige Große Zittauer Fastentuch von 1472 zu bestaunen. Das Wort Groß ist durchaus wörtlich zu nehmen, denn es zeigt auf 6,80 x 8,20 Metern Fläche in 90 Bildtafeln die Biblische Geschichte.

Liberec ( German: Reichenberg ) is a statutory city in the Liberec District in northern Bohemia and the regional and university city of the Liberec Region . With its approximately 103 thousand inhabitants, it is the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic .
Together with the neighboring Jablonec nad Nisou and the surrounding villages, it forms a wider residential agglomeration , the cadastre of the city itself includes the village of Stráž nad Nisou as an enclave . Liberec is a founding member of the Nisa Euroregion , and since 2004 its capital.
Location
Liberec is located approximately 91 km north-northeast of Prague and 99 km north-northwest of Hradec Králové . The city is located in the Liberecká Basin of the Žitav Basin between the Ještěd-Kozák Ridge in the south and the Jizera Mountains in the northeast. The foot of the town hall is at a height of 374 m above sea level, the highest point of the city cadastre is the peak of Ještěd (1012 m above sea level), the lowest is the Nisa level in the northern part of Machnín ( 325 m above sea level ) . on which the Harcovská dam is located. Natural bodies of water are ponds: for example, Vesecký (so-called Teich), Kačák (Zabák) in Krásná Studánka or the Seba pond (dyke) in Janov Dol.

Until 1939, Liberec covered an area of 6.2 km², which today represents the historical center of the city. After the annexation of 11 municipalities on May 1, 1939, the city grew by another 23 municipalities in 1954, 1963, 1976, 1980 and 1986. After 1989, on the other hand, four municipalities separated from the city. The area of the city cadastre is thus 106.09 km². Of this, 35.2% is agricultural land, over half of which is meadows and pastures. Two-thirds of the non-agricultural land is forest land (total 39.9% of the area).

SIGHTGEIST - THE SAXONY MAGAZINE's Video Advent Calendar: Dec 10, 2021 - Churches in Zittau
Centuries ago, Lenten veils were used in churches to hide the altar during times of Lent. Only two Lenten veils remain in Germany, both in the Saxon town of Zittau. The smaller one, showing the passion of Christ, can be found in the municipal museum in the former Franciscan monastery. The larger and older one, serving as a picture bible, only survived by chance. It suffered major damage when, at the end of World War II, it was pulled by Soviet soldiers into a forest, torn up and turned into a makeshift sauna. Luckily, the pieces were recovered by a farmer and taken to a safe place. Only after German reunification, the Large Zittau Lenten Veil could be restored and it was subsequently put on display in the world’s largest glass cabinet in the former Church of the Holy Cross.

Deutschland - Zittau
Zittau liegt im äußersten Südosten Sachsens und ist Namensgeber eines kleinen aber feinen Mittelgebirges: des Zittauer Gebirges. Die Stadt im Drei-Länder-Eck und hat Grenzübergänge in die Tschechische Republik und nach Polen. Mein Spaziergang führt durch die Zittauer Innenstadt und zeigt die große Geschichte der Stadt. Gestartet bin ich am Bahnhof, von dem die Bahnhofstraße direkt in die Altstadt führt. Das Waentighaus weist aus Zittaus Vergangenheit als Standort der Textilproduktion hin. Heinrich Ferdinand Waentig nutzte das 1853 erbaute Gebäude als Büro- und Wohnhaus. Das Zittauer Stadtbad gilt als eines der ältesten Stadtbäder Deutschlands. Emil Trummler erbaute es 1871 - 1874 im spätklassizistischen Stil. Die Weberkirche wurde schon Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts errichtet und erhielt seitdem zahlreiche Veränderungen. Eines blieb aber, die 1493 gegossene Bronzeglocke, die heute die älteste Kirchenglocke der Stadt. Die Johanniskirche wurde um 1230 als romanische Basilika errichtet und wurde um 1500 in eine gotische hallenkirche umgebaut. In der Kirche eine eine Silbermannorgel, die leider bei einem Brand 1757 verloren ging. Die Johanniskirche wurde dabei stark beschädigt und wurde nach Plänen von Karl Friedrich Schinkel im klassitistischen Stil vollendet. Das Rathaus stammt aus der Mitte des 19. Jahrhundert und wurde dem Stil oberitalienischer Paläste nachempfunden. Der Marsbrunnen wurde schon 1585 errichtet.
Das zeitgenössisches Bauen nicht langweilig sein muss zeigt das Pop-Art-Viertel. 2009/2010 gestaltete der Berliner Künstler Sergej Alexander Dott die aus den 1980ern stammenden Gebäude.
Die Kleine Bastei aus der Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts gehörte zur alten Stadtbefestigung. Zu der gehört auch die Fleischerbastei, die im Sommer zusätzliche Anziehungskraft durch die Blumenuhr mit einem Meißner Porzellanglockenspiel besitzt. Der barocke Herkulesbrunnen wurde 1708 von Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt zu Ehren August des Starken errichtet. Die ehemalige Franziskaner-Klosterkirche wurde schon Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts errichtet. Das Kloster existierte bis 1554. Heute gehört das Bauwerk der evangelisch-lutherischen Kirche. Im Stadtmuseum, das im ehemaligen Franziskanerkloster untergebracht ist, findet man das kleine Zittauer Fastentuch (1573). Das große Zittauer Fastentuch hat seine Heimstätte seit 1999 in der Kreuzkirche.

Zittau is the southeast corner of Saxony and is named after a small but mighty low mountain range: the Zittau Mountains. The city where three countries meet, and has border crossings into the Czech Republic and Poland. My stroll through the city Zittau and shows the great history of the city. I started at the station, the station of the road leads directly into the old town. The Waentighaus from Zittau has past, but as the location of textile production. Heinrich Ferdinand Wäntig Built in 1853, used the building as office and residential building. The Zittau bathhouse is one of the oldest spas in Germany. Emil Trummler it was built 1871 - 1874 in the late classical style. The church was Weber at the end of the 15th Century and has since built a number of changes. One remained, however, who in 1493 cast bronze bell, now the oldest church bell in the city. The St. John's Church was built in 1230 as a Romanesque basilica was rebuilt in 1500 into a Gothic hall church. The little bastion of the middle of the 16th Century belonged to the old city walls. Which includes the butcher's Bastion, which has the additional attraction of the summer with a floral Meissen porcelain bells. The baroque fountain was built in 1708 by Hercules John Michael Hoppenhaupt in honor of Augustus the Strong. The former Franciscan monastery church was already the end of the 13th Century building. The monastery existed until 1554th Today, the building of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The City Museum, housed in a former Franciscan monastery, one finds the little Lenten cloth (1573). The Great Lenten cloth has its home ground since 1999 in Holy Cross Church.

Germany 28. 04. 2020 Zittauer Gebirge (Sachsen, Oberlausitz) kleine Wanderung auf den Hochwald zum Turm. Das Zittauer Gebirge (kleinstes Mittelgebirge Deutschlands) ist nur eine halbe Stunde Fahrzeit von meinem kleinen Heimatstädtchen Bernstadt auf dem Eigen entfernt und wird von mir öfters mal zu einer kleinen Wanderung besucht.
