Zelzate : Natuurdomein Opgevuld Kanaal : Vijver – Wandelen langs de Vredekaai
In de jaren zestig van de 20ste eeuw werd een deel van het vroegere kanaal Gent-Terneuzen opgevuld en omgevormd tot groene zone. Het leverde Zelzate een fantastische groene long op, die het centrum bijna volledig doorkruist. Het meer dan vijftien hectare grote park dat de naam Opgevuld Kanaal meekreeg waar bezoekers en voorbijgangers kunnen genieten van het landschap met vijver, fonteinen en een heuse zandvlakte. De aanwezige flora en fauna is heel gevarieerd. De vijvers in het park liggen tussen de Vredekaai en de Havenlaan. Het gebied is zodanig uitgestrekt dat men drie video's op mijn YouTube kanaal zal aantreffen van deze groene omgeving. In dit gedeelte wandelen wij langs de Vredekaai.

A few days in Belgium visiting Dinant and Bouillon - both riverside towns. We arrived in Bouillon and couldn't understand why there were so many people about - it soon became apparent that the annual two day medieval festival was taking place!
NB. These videos are very amateur and primarily to serve as fun memories for us travelling around Europe in our motorhome but happy to share :-)

Delijn shop in Belgium Sint Niklaas I buy a bus ticket there it costs you 16 euros to do 10 travel destinations throughout Flanders and Brussels and to Hulst Netherlands, in the Netherlands you can only do 2 destinations eg Hulst Terneuzen price costs 5 euros with the OV card , the Netherlands eats your budget , the Belgian rates are socially oriented for every family and self reduction rates for students much cheaper than in the Netherlands and 10 dozens of buses per hour!

Rondwandeling door Zelzate in Belgie door Tine de Jong
Deel ditmaal een rondwandeling die ik deed in #Zelzate. Het is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, gelegen ten noorden van de provinciehoofdstad Gent, tegen de grens met Nederland. In het centrum van Zelzate staat een neogotische Sint-Laurentiuskerk en daar begon mijn wandeling. Ik heb even hier wat rondgewandeld in wat onbekende straten zoals ik altijd doe bij een bezoek aan een dorp of een stad. Gewoon heerlijk het onbekende zoeken en kijken wat mijn lens van mijn camera dan eens zal ontmoeten. Toen ik in Zelzate kwam was er hier een grote gezellige markt waar ik ook even heb rondgewandeld voor ik mijn wandeling voort ging.
Deze plaats kent ook wel een verleden maar ik had helaas te weinig tijd om alles te gaan bezoeken. Want ik was op doorrreis maar omdat de bus wat te laat was ben ik hier maar wat gaan rondwandelen. Het beeldje wat je ziet in video is Mientje Stroel. Volgens de legende was Mietje stroel een vondelinge die van een boot gevallen was op de binnenwateren nabij Zelzate. Ze werd gevonden door een smokkelaar en opgevoed in het Smokkelaarsbos. Ze was gekend als het meiske van het smokkelaarsbos dat plaste waar het haar paste. Stroelen betekent ruisend stromen. In 1976 werd te Brussel het officiële verlovingsfeest gehouden tussen Mietje Stroel en Manneken Pis. Aan Mietje Stroel werd een klein museum gewijd, waarin zich allerlei kostuumpjes, prentjes, geschenkjes en waar ook pispotjes zich bevinden, die verband houden met het beeldje.
Het Tankmonument wat je ziet in de video is een oorlogsmonument in de Belgische plaats Zelzate. Dit tankmonument staat aan de Oostkade. De naoorlogse tank is van het type Leopard 1. Op 22 en 23 mei 1940 vonden er tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog zware gevechten plaats in Zelzate, met aan de ene kant Belgische 2e Gidsen Regiment tegenover het Duitse leger. De Belgen weerstonden met zware verliezen de Duitse aanval. Op 2 september 2000 werd op de Oostkade in Zelzate een tank van de pantsercavalerieschool van het Regiment der Gidsen geplaatst. Dit gebeurde ter gelegenheid van de 60e verjaardag van de gevechten in Zelzate. Dit tankmonument staat aan de Oostkade. De naoorlogse tank is van het type Leopard 1.

Day trips from Zeeland to Flanders with the Belgian De Lijn buses
In the province of Zeeland border with Belgium, the town Sluis, Terneuzen and Hulst you have little public transport in this region of the Netherlands and the day pass is prohibitively expensive € 24 and after 18:01 you also have to pay for a taxi separately (because the bus line 10 is no longer running).
