Manpupuner Rock Formations - mysterious rock idols in the Republic of Komi, all that remains from the gigantic mountains of ancient times.
Chara Sands - world's smallest desert, located in the middle of the endless Siberia.
Ruskeala - flooded marble quarry in majestic Karelia with breathtaking views and lots of activities for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Altai Mountains - the region of endless peace, snowy mountains and blue lakes. Immense territory for vacation and for finding your inner self.
Lena Pillars - grand stone giants on the banks of the mighty Lena river in the heart of Yakutia, world's coldest place.
Kamchatka - land of volcanoes and geysers, where any tourist would find hundreds of breathtaking places to visit, a place untouched by human civilization.

Weekend Trip to Kaliningrad [Königsberg] & Curonian Spit // Top Russia Travel Vlog 2020
Last weekend at night I suddenly decided to visit one well-known city (for locals) in Russia - Kaliningrad (or how it used to be called Königsberg). For tourists, this is not a particularly popular destination as most people prefer to visit Moscow, St. Petersburg or Siberia. However Kaliningrad is worth a visit as this city combines European and Soviet features what is very unusual.
Kaliningrad is definitely the most European city in Russia and it was quite interesting for me to spend a weekend there. I also visited the Curonian spit National Park - it is a narrow and long sandy strip of land that separates the Curonian lagoon from the Baltic sea. This amazing place is incredibly beautiful and for sure worth a visit! I strongly advise you to rent a car there :)

I'm taking you on a journey to Kaliningrad. Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave located on the Baltic Sea, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania. It serves as a strategic outpost for Russia in Europe. Formerly part of East Prussia and known as Königsberg, it was annexed by the Soviet Union after World War II. Today, it remains a unique geopolitical entity, distinct from the Russian mainland. It provides Russia with access to the Baltic Sea and a presence in the European Union, which can influence regional dynamics and politics in the Baltic region.
In this video, I visit a number of settlements in Kaliningrad region with traces of German past. It could happen that some members of YOUR family lived in East Prussia before or soon after the annexation of Konigsberg. Write about this in the comments, it's fascinating to read such stories!

Kaliningrad until 1946 known as Königsberg, is the largest city and the administrative centre of Kaliningrad Oblast, the westernmost oblast of Russia. The city is situated on the Pregolya River, at the head of the Vistula Lagoon on the Baltic Sea, with a population of 489,359 residents, up to 800,000 residents in the urban agglomeration. Kaliningrad is the second-largest city in the Northwestern Federal District, after Saint Petersburg, the third-largest city in the Baltic region, and the seventh-largest city on the Baltic Sea.
The settlement of modern-day Kaliningrad was founded in 1255 on the site of the ancient Old Prussian settlement Twangste by the Teutonic Knights during the Northern Crusades, and was named Königsberg in honor of King Ottokar II of Bohemia. A Baltic port city, it successively became the capital of the State of the Teutonic Order, the Duchy of Prussia (1525–1701) and East Prussia. Königsberg remained the coronation city of the Prussian monarchy, though the capital was moved to Berlin in 1701. From 1454 to 1455 the city under the name of Królewiec belonged to the Kingdom of Poland, and from 1466 to 1657 it was a Polish fief. Königsberg was the easternmost large city in Germany until World War II. The city was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in 1944 and during the Battle of Königsberg in 1945; it was then captured by the Soviet Union on 9 April 1945. The Potsdam Agreement of 1945 placed it under Soviet administration. The city was renamed to Kaliningrad in 1946 in honor of Soviet revolutionary Mikhail Kalinin. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it is governed as the administrative centre of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast, an exclave sandwiched between Lithuania and Poland.
As a major transport hub, with sea and river ports, the city is home to the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy, and is one of the largest industrial centres in Russia. It was recognized as the best city in Russia in 2012, 2013 and 2014 according to Kommersant's magazine The Firm's Secret, the best city in Russia for business in 2013 according to Forbes, and was ranked fifth in the Urban Environment Quality Index published by Minstroy in 2019. Kaliningrad has been a major internal migration attraction in Russia over the past two decades, and was one of the host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

I had the opportunity to visit Kaliningrad for a long weekend, and my word what a place! It's notoriously quite time consuming from a British perspective to get a Russian visa, but there's an exception for overland travel to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad whereby you can get issues a 72hour tourist visa. I used a recomended Travel agent, Uni-tours.ru for the application who were very helpful and went beyond to help me get my visa.

Krunz - Prussian Name of Zelenogradsk Resort
This summer Nick visited three places - Lithuania, Belarus and Königsberg/Kalininhrad. This movie is about Kranz, Prussia, now Zelenogradsk, Russia. that resort town became one of the most popular one on the Baltic Sea Shores all year around. On summers it is a favorite place to be for beach life and waterspouts activities, especially for families with children. You can enjoy agentle sandy beach, warm waters, and amazing promenade for taking a long walk along the shore line. Moreover, there're plenty of restaurants , bars and cafes with a great choice of menues with local/evropean cousins in that cosy town. Local and European brewery, by the way, might surprise you with great selection. In the end, to remember the nice time you've spent, you may get yourself a souvenir made of Amber - a semi precious stone that exist only in two places on Earth - here and in Africa. Welcome to Kranz / Zelenogradsk!
