Russia is the largest country in the world and it offers so much to see & explore. My Instagram followers know that I am history & architecture fan, and so trip to one of the oldest cities of the country (first mention dates back to 859 year!) sounded like a great idea.
I’m sure you have heard word “Kremlin”, but internationally it is used mostly to identify Moscow and russian government, as that’s where president’s office is located in Moscow. The thing is that this word means citadel, a fortified complex in Russian towns. Veliky Novgorod (Novgorod the Great) has its own kremlin, and that’s where I directed my paws to upon arrival (0:28).
Inside, I felt like I travelled in time: amazing architecture with the jewel - St Sophia Cathedral (dd. 1050) (0:50), towers, bells, all breathing history (especially when excursion passed by with a guide that was dressed in some medieval clothes and spoke very beautifully (1:21)). I was really impressed by monument “Millennium of the Russian Statehood” (1:41): it shows important people and events that made the most impact on Russian history. Spent quite a time watching all the tiny details of this masterpiece. I’ve recognized Peter the Great (2:00), remember the one who created St Petersburg and its amazing suburb Peterhof? Out of the Kremlin, I visited impressive Victory monument dedicated to victory of the Soviet Union over the fascist invaders (2:28) and had a look at Yaroslav's Courtyard (0:07), former market place that dates back to 12 century.
I was surprised to learn that Novgorod was one of the Hansa League cities back in time (as well as Stockholm, Tallinn, Bremen, Gdansk, Cologne, Bruges, London, Bergen and others), beautiful fountain was opened in 2009. Loved the design with mosaic emblems (0:09).
I wish I could spend more time in this city and fly the heart balloon (2:18) or take a river cruise (0:22).
Visit to cities like Novgorod is a throwback to old times, unique experience I’d wish everyone to have!

I filmed some places around Kirillo and then inside the monastery. There is also a re-enactment event of the siege that took place several centuries ago between Russian King and Polish King....well at least from what my translator told me. Think russian medieval times!

The Zaraysk Kremlin is a rectangular fortified citadel, built on the orders of the Grand Prince Vasili III, originally constructed between 1528 and 1531, and located in the European part of Russia. It forms the historic centre of the industrial town of Zaraysk, roughly 160 km (100 miles) to the south-east of Moscow.
Within the walls two historical church buildings survive, both built very much more recently than the Kremlin itself. The St. Nicholas Cathedral, topped off with no fewer than five onion domes, was built in 1681, replacing an earlier timber structure. Nearby is the Church of the beheading of St John the Baptist, architecturally very different, consecrated in 1821 and most recently rebuilt in 1901-1904. While the St. Nicholas Cathedral follows the traditional Russian style, the John the Baptist Church, with its single dome, follows neoclassical principals.

Zaraysk Kremlin is one of the smallest fortifications that have been perfectly preserved on the territory of Russia and the Moscow region. It was built on the orders of the Grand Prince Vasili III, originally constructed between 1528 and 1531. The Kremlin was one of the most important fortresses built for protection of South-Eastern borders of the Moscow state.
In the XVI-XVII centuries Zaraysk Kremlin was violently attacked by enemy troops for many times, but was not captured. You have a unique сhance to go up to the most beautiful Kremlin and walk along the fortified old walls.
Inside the Kremlin and nearby territories the archaeological site of ancient people was discovered. This site belongs to the upper Paleolithic era. During the excavations lots of remains of ancient animals, household items and figurines were found.
Within the walls two historical church buildings survive, both built very much more recently than the Kremlin itself. You can observe the St. Nicolas cathedral, russian historical and architectural treasure, which is famous for the icon of Saint Nicolas of Zaraysk, and the John the Baptist cathedral, which was rebuilt on the donations of local merchants.

My Visit to The Moscow Kremlin, Moscow, Russia
The Moscow Kremlin is located in the heart of Moscow and is the official residence of the Russian president. The Kremlin is Russia's mythic refuge, a fortified city full of palaces, armories and churches, a medieval fortress that links the modern nation to its legendary past. I visited it with my parents, Olena and Rostislav ( who took the pictures) and my sister Alice

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. Yaroslavl. Russia
The town of Yaroslavl is one of the most beautiful cities of the Golden Ring of Russia which has a history of centuries.
The first mention of Yaroslavl can be found in the chronicles of 1071. Meanwhile the history of Yaroslavl has begun in 1010 when the Prince of Rostov Yaroslav the Wise based a fortress in lieu of the settlement the Medvejy Ugol (the Bear Home) at the confluence of the Volga and the Kotorosl Rivers.
The monastery was founded in the 12th century. It was situated outside the city of that time near the ford of the river Kotorosol and occupied angular position in the urban fortification system.
The main Cathedral bearing the same name was created as a part of the Monastery in 1224.
In the beginning of the 16th century the abode was dramatically damaged by a fire and many buildings of the monastery had to be built anew.
But the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour has remained till nowadays and presently is the most ancient building in Yaroslavl.
