Incident Istoric
La 8 septembrie 1940 în Ciumărna trupele ungare au ucis 11 români: Ioan Ghiurutan, subprimar, Ioan Țiriac și soția sa Ana, N. Rati, Teodor Țiriac, Rozalia Țiriac, Gavrilă Oprea Ticău, Gavrilă Ortelecan, Florea Ciglăneanu, Niculae Barburaș și un țăran din Trăznea.
Sursa:
În 1940, pe lângă cei 873 de români, locuiau aici doar 22 de maghiari și 11 evrei. Pentru a evita deportarea, evreii s-au declarat etnici maghiari, renunțând la numele evreiești și adoptând nume de rezonanță maghiară. După masacru, autoritățile ungare au adus alți 21 de maghiari, jandarmi și alți funcționari, crescând astfel la 54 numărul maghiarilor din sat.

The Maramures region in Romania is so beautiful! We really have to go back and explore more if it. Breb is one of those places where time goes by slower and you are forced to enjoy the little things. We loved walking the 'streets' of Breb, saying hi to everyone, playing with every single animal we crossed paths with, learning about their culture and values and just being there... it may sound strange, but even though you're obviously a tourist, it feels like you're a part of something. And it's very special ????
It's fascinating to us to learn and see how other people live. It really changes you. And it's the best part of traveling ❤️
