Alaska Travel Guide - Best Places to Visit and Things to do in Alaska in 2022

Alaska  is a state located in the Western United States on the northwest extremity of North America. A semi-exclave of the U.S., it borders the Canadian province of British Columbia and the Yukon territory to the east; it also shares a maritime border with the Russian Federation's Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to the west, just across the Bering Strait. To the north are the Chukchi and Beaufort seas of the Arctic Ocean, while the Pacific Ocean lies to the south and southwest.

The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.

Canada Road Trip: Best Things To Do In The Northwest Territories

In this video, we share some of the best things to do in the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk!

Welcome to the NWT!

With more than one million square kilometres of land area and a population of less than 50,000, the Northwest Territories is about as wild as it gets. It's certainly not an easy area to visit (many places are fly-in, many roads are gravel, and distances are vast) but for those who make the effort, there are incredible things to experience.

With boreal forest, arctic tundra, some of Canada's greatest waterfalls, a vibrant indigenous culture, and boundless wilderness, this is an adventurer's paradise!

We explored the NWT from August 16 - September 1st, 2017!

Top 10 Most Beautiful Places To Visit In Alaska | Traveling Insider

Hey guys, today we’ll look at the top 10 most beautiful places to visit in Alaska.

As Alaska is big, so too is its beauty. A vast, uninhabited wilderness overwhelms the comparatively small cities in the state, such as commercial-minded Anchorage, with its many things to do, and tucked-away Juneau (a curious state capital with no road access).

This natural beauty can be enjoyed while hiking, paddling, and fishing in the great outdoors, especially as the state and national parks here are some of the largest in the United States. These wildlands of The Last Frontier are what attracts nature lovers and tourists from across the world.

Though there are several museums and other tourist attractions in the major centers, towns are perhaps more accurately used as jumping-off points for exploring the Alaskan wilds, such as Denali and Kenai Fjords national parks. But wherever your sightseeing may take you, the scale of Alaska is sure to impress. Discover the best places to visit in this ruggedly beautiful state with our list of the top attractions in Alaska.

Best Time to Visit Alaska (Month by Month Guide)

Check out excursions you can do on your trip at the link below:

Did you know that you can often get discounts when visiting Alaska in the months of April and September and that the peak visiting month is July? Alaska is one of the most beautiful wilderness destinations in the world, but there are better times to visit it than others. Though there are things to do in Alaska at all times of the year, the spring and summer activities are a good deal more popular than the fall and winter ones. Though there are people who visit Alaska during the winter months, tourist season is generally considered to first start in April. April is when things start kicking into gear, though it’s still colder and darker than the summer months. Things get even more vibrant in May, though June and July are considered to be the peaks month to visit Alaska by most. July is when the days are longest and the weather is at its warmest, though these facts also mean that Alaska can be a good deal busier in July than it is during other months.

You’ll still find plenty of summer tourists visiting Alaska in August, but there’s no question that things are starting to die down. Things die down even more in September, though you’ll still find some tourists that are anxious to get a view of Alaska’s encroaching fall scenery. Things start to become dead during the later months of the fall, as the weather starts getting colder and popular activities start getting fewer and farther between. One of the only reasons that you’ll find people in Alaska during the fall is to go fishing.

During the winter, there are plenty of activities that bring people to Alaska. These include skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and checking out the northern lights. However, visiting during the winter isn’t nearly as popular with the masses as visiting during the summer. Join Viewcation as we explore the best time to visit Alaska, month by month.

#10 The Alaska Denali Star is a train that runs between Fairbanks and Seward, Alaska. It’s operated by the same company that runs the famous Alaskan Railroad. The views from this train are stunning, and it’s a great way to see some of Alaska’s most beautiful scenery. The train makes stops at several small towns along the way, so you can get off and explore if you want to. The Alaska Denali Star is a great way to see Alaska if you don’t want to drive or fly. And, it’s a lot of fun!

Exploring the Yukon Territory, Canada & Alaska

We spent three weeks road tripping through the beautiful Yukon Territory, Alaska and northern British Columbia in a Canadream Truck Camper. We drove over 3000km, got 1 flat tire and had adventures that will last us a lifetime.

We started our journey spending four days in Whitehorse exploring the beautiful capital city of the Yukon. Here we explored all the national historic sites, Miles Canyon and soaking in the charm of the biggest city in the Yukon.

From there we hit the road and headed towards Dawson City with a few stops along the way including a stop to Keno City where we ended up naming our Husky after the smallest town in the territory. We made it to the home of the gold rush explored Discovery Claim where they first found gold, visited Dredge Number 4 National Historic Site, Midnight Dome, S.S. Keno National Historic Site, gabled and watched the show at Diamond Tooth Gerties and hit the road up the Dempster Highway where we got a flat tire on Chris' birthday but it makes it all part of the adventure.

After we left Dawson City we stopped in at the Shipyard Graveyard on the otherside of the river from Dawson City and headed towards North America's highest border crossing and stopped into Chicken, Alaska. From Chicken we headed down to Skagway Alaska, into Northern BC and then onto the Alaska Highway to Kluane National Park where our breaths were taken away by the incredible mountain St Elias Mountain range where we took a plane ride up into the mountains and landed in front of Mount Logan

The Yukon has the most incredible sites and has turned into one of our favourite adventures we have ever gone on. Have you had a chance to explore the Yukon or want to?
