10 Most Dangerous Towns to Live in England - Burglaries
What are the most dangerous towns to live in England? While burglary might not be the crime with the highest rates in England, it is worthy of consideration when deciding the town to live in. Burglary in this case has been defined as a criminal act of entering a building without permission, or just unlawfully with intent to steal valuable properties or commit some felony. It is different from all other crimes that rob a person of his property such as car snatching, theft from the person, pilferages, and other kinds of robberies. You have reasons to be worried about living in a town that further exposes you to this kind of crime. We, therefore, present in this video the 10 most dangerous towns to live in England for burglaries.
10. Blackpool
Blackpool would always find itself on this kind of list, as the most dangerous major town in Lancashire. In fact, out of the 236 villages, towns, and cities in Lancashire, it is the second most dangerous. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Blackpool was 146 crimes per 1,000 workday people. This is 87 percent higher than Lancashire's crime rate which was 77 per 1,000 residents.
Focusing specifically on burglary, it is 45 percent more dangerous than Lancashire as a whole. While the current burglary rate in Blackpool is 6.19 crimes per 1,000 residents with 902 burglaries reported, the rate for Lancashire as a whole is 4.28. Blackpool burglary rate in 2017 was 4.99 per 1,000 people, 5.95 in 2018, 7.16 in 2019, and 8.54 in 2020.
9. Burnley
We shift attention to Burnley, a town in Lancashire. It is the second most dangerous major town there. It is also among the top 5 most dangerous 236 villages, towns, and cities in Lancashire. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Burnley was 118 crimes per 1,000 people. You can be sure that the high rate of burglary in the town has an effect on that rate.
The Burnley burglary rate is 60 percent more than the rate in Lancashire in 2022. A total of 571 burglaries have been reported giving a rate of 6.85 per 1,000 persons. In 2017, the rate was 5.2, it was 5.99 in 2018, 8.92 in 2019, and 9.83 in 2021. We don’t have the rates for the year 2020.
8. Wigan
This is a large town formerly was within the historic county of Lancashire. Located in Greater Manchester, on the River Douglas, Wigan is midway between Manchester and Liverpool, situated at 25.7 kilometers and 27 kilometers respectively to both cities. The town, which is the largest settlement in its metropolitan borough, has a high rate of burglary. In its postcode area in 2018, a source calculated its burglary rate to be 9.1. That rate was 122 percent of the national burglary crime rate. In 2017, the rate was 5.23. It was 6.47 in 2020 and 6.69 in 2021.
7. Oldham
Oldham is another large town in Greater Manchester. It’s amid the Pennines and between the Irk and Medlock rivers, 8.5 kilometers southeast of Rochdale and 11.1 kilometers of Manchester. This large town is the administrative center of its metropolitan borough.
Like Rochdale its neighbor, Oldham is one of the 10 most dangerous towns to live in England for burglary. Since 2018, the average crime rate in the Oldham postcode area has been 11.7 per annum per 1000 workday people. This rate is 157 percent of the national crime rate. Reports show that burglary crime makes up 7.2 percent of all crimes in the postcode area. In 2017, the rate in the Oldham township was 7.31. It was 7.21 in 2018 and 5.34 in 2021.

= 00:06 - Soho Square =
We've started in Soho Square. It was originally called King Square after Charles II. You might have spotted the statue of Charles II that we walked past earlier. It has stood in the square since 1661
The small octagonal black and white building we passed in the square was built in 1926. It hides part of an electricity substation which supplies surrounding homes and businesses
Today Soho Square hosts open-air free concerts during the summer
= 01:30 - Greek Street =
We're now in Greek Street which leads south from Soho Square to Shaftesbury Avenue. Greek Street is known for its selection of restaurants, cafes and bars ... and in non-COVID times is usually very busy!
It is thought the name of the street comes from a Greek church that was built in 1677
The area of Soho is part of the City of Westminster and one of the main entertainment districts in London since the 1800s. Many of the remaining old buildings were houses owned by the rich upper class but many moved out after Soho was badly hit by an outbreak of cholera in 1854
As well as the nightlife, until recently, Soho also had a reputation as the centre of London's sex industry. But today it's mainly a gentrified area of upmarket restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.
The building on the right is the side of Prince Edward Theatre which opened on 3 April 1930. The theatre entrance is on Old Compton Street which we'll see in a moment

Old Compton Street is the heart of London's gay district with lots of bars, shops and other venues. The street is pedestrianised each year to become a big party for London's Gay Pride each June
This video was shot at the start of the COVID pandemic when many businesses were shut and restaurants and bars were only able to operate outside.
= 04:30 - Cambridge Circus =
We're walking down Moor Street now towards Shaftesbury Avenue. This is Cambridge Circus - the intersection where Shaftesbury Avenue crosses Charing Cross Road
Just behind us to the right is the Palace Theatre which is currently showing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
= 06:42 - Seven Dials =
We're now on Earlham Street walking towards Seven Dials. Usually you'll find this street buzzing with shops and market stalls
Coming up ahead is Seven Dials where seven streets converge at the circular junction. At the centre of which is a column bearing six sundials. Unfortunately, a seventh road was added after they'd already commissioned the column
Initially developed in 1690s to become a wealthy upmarket area it deteriorated to become one of the most notorious slums in London
= 08:54 - Neal Street and Long Acre =
We're now coming towards Neal Street which is full of small boutique shops and restaurants - and a great place to visit when things start to reopen. Neal Street runs onto Long Acre which we'll join in a moment
Long Acre used to be famous in London for its car dealerships but today is mainly clothing and retail stores
= 10:30 - Covent Garden =
We've just passed Covent Garden tube station and walking down towards the market. The area is a popular shopping and tourist site including the Royal Opera House, London Transport Museum and Covent Garden Market (which we'll see in a moment).
Covent Garden used to be an old former fruit-and-vegetable market that first opened in 1654. The fruit and vegetable market was moved three miles away to Nine Elms in 1980. In the 18th century it was notorious for its abundance of brothels.
Street entertainment on the Covent Garden Piazza has been happening since May 1662. Although it's quiet today you'll find performers here 365 days a year - and they have to audition for the prime spots!

British Virgin Islands Vacation - This past Thanksgiving, I was lucky enough to get invited to the annual Sinberg Family British Virgin Islands Vacation. Coming from all over the US, we met in the BVI on Tortola before heading to Virgin Gorda to the resort. Over the course of our stay, we boated, swam, dove, ran, drank, and laughed until we cried. For my first time in the British Virgin Islands, this trip ended up being one of my favorite vacations of my entire life, and we cant stop talking about this year...

It is January 1992 and i'm at Exeter. We start with a couple of shots at Exeter Central of a class 50 NSE Express to Waterloo & a DMU before heading down to St Davids on the main Great Western line. Here we see classes 37, 47, Inter-city 125 HST, 153 and first generation DMU's on NSE, InterCity & Regional Railways workings along with some light engine moves. Class 40 D345 Takes 40012 to the ELR!
In this video, we capture Class 40 D345 (40145) taking fellow sister loco 40012 Aureol to the East Lancashire Railway from the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley (Butterley MRC to Bury East Lancs Railway).
After bringing Class 20 20305 & Class 37 37059 back to Worksop from the ELR after their 2023 Summer Diesel Gala, D345 then went light engine from Worksop to Swanwick Junction to pick up Class 40 40012 Aureol take to the ELR to do test runs and presumably to run service trains after not ran since 2018 after overhaul. Along with the Whistlers were two support coaches from PRCLT.
(If anyone knows why the coaches being taken to the ELR feel free to let us know in the comments below!)
We start the video at Alfreton as the convoy blasts through after not long leaving MRC metals at Codnor Park Junction giving some thrash and tones making for a fantastic spectacle of the pure power of the Class 40!
We then decided to chase both Whistlers into South Yorkshire to Thurnscoe where we see them pass through climbing the steep gradient following a Northern Sheffield to Leeds service train to end off an afternoon seeing a pair of Whistlers.
