Canada Road Trip: Best Things To Do In The Northwest Territories

In this video, we share some of the best things to do in the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk!

Welcome to the NWT!

With more than one million square kilometres of land area and a population of less than 50,000, the Northwest Territories is about as wild as it gets. It's certainly not an easy area to visit (many places are fly-in, many roads are gravel, and distances are vast) but for those who make the effort, there are incredible things to experience.

With boreal forest, arctic tundra, some of Canada's greatest waterfalls, a vibrant indigenous culture, and boundless wilderness, this is an adventurer's paradise!

We explored the NWT from August 16 - September 1st, 2017!

7 Best Places to See The Northern Lights - 4K Travel Video

No good traveller can imagine traveling around the world, without catching the spectacular Northern lights. Nature's breathtaking light show is an experience you should not miss in your lifetime. When highly charged electrons from the Sun meet with gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere, the Northern lights appear. The spectacular light show happens in areas around the North Magnetic Pole, 30 to 130 kilometres above sea level. The lights, which are also called aurora borealis, show up at night when the sky is dark. It’s like a celestial ballet of light dancing across the night sky, with a colour palette of green, blue, and sometimes even pink and violet. Winter is the ideal season to see the Northern Lights. In clear black sky, the light show becomes more intense. The Northern Lights will last anywhere from a few seconds to a full hour.

This travel guide contains our most favourite places to see the amazing Northern lights. The destinations are Greenland, Canada, Alaska, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

Here is our list of the top 7 places to catch the Northern Lights.

Canada Road Trip: Best Things To Do In The Yukon

In this video, we share some of the best things to do in the Yukon, including Whitehorse, Dawson, Kluane National Park, and more!

Welcome to the Yukon!

Known for its dramatic landscapes, vast wilderness, and the famous Klondike Gold Rush, the Yukon has been capturing people's imaginations for years. With four-legged creatures far outnumbering humans, Canada's tallest mountain peaks, and the world's largest non-polar glacier, the Yukon is a true paradise for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.

We started our journey in Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital city. From here, we toured the SS Klondike, ate some delicious food in Whitehorse's oldest buildings, saw heaps of wildlife, and caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights. We then went to Dawson, the worlds most famous gold rush town. While walking around the old boardwalk streets was incredible enough, we also went gold panning, toured the massive dredge #4, watched a Cancan show at the oldest casino in the country, and took a river cruise on a paddle-wheeler. We then drove up the infamous Dempster Highway all the way to Eagle Plains, past the Arctic Circle and into the Northwest Territories. After coming back and spending another night in Dawson, we drove to Kluane National Park for one of the most epic flightseeing tours we've ever experienced.

We explored the Yukon from August 16 - September 6th, 2017!

10 Most Beautiful Places to Visit in Canada

Canada is located in North America with ten provinces and three territories. Canada is the second-largest country after Russia, and its capital is Ottawa. The country covers a whopping 9.98 million square kilometers, making it huge. The official language of Canada is English and French, and if you do not speak French or you are not a French native, you might want to learn a little bit of French before visiting the country. Canada is one of the coldest regions of the world, and as a visitor, you will need to prepare winter clothes for the weather. Canada is rich in culture and architecture and has a lot of beautiful places to be visited. In this video, we will be looking at the ten most beautiful places to visit in Canada. How were these places built? What makes them so significant that they have been considered tourist sites? What is the history behind them, and what exactly do they represent? Before Canada became one of the fastest-growing European tourist destinations, it had its fair share of civil and world wars. They had to go through reformations, adjustments, and changes before they became the country that they are. They have places that are now considered attraction sites that depict their history and preserve their culture, and some others are just natural wonders.

Number 1- Niagara Falls
The first of the most beautiful places to visit in Canada is Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls is the world-famous Canadian beauty spot, and it is viewed from both Canada and America. Tourists have argued on which view is the best, but if you are opportune, you might view it from both ends. Niagara Falls is one of the natural wonders of Canada. It is not the tallest nor the widest waterfall, but it is extraordinary in its way. Niagara falls have been incorporated into movie scenes, it is a famous location for weddings, and it has hosted couples on their honeymoons. The Niagara has also hosted the brave people interested in showing their strength and resilience against mother nature. They do this by crossing the falls on a tight rope or just jumping over the edge right into the turbulence in a barrel. For those that are not that brave and are very much interested in their safety, there are safer ways to enjoy Niagara falls through the use of the boat named the maid of the mist.

Number 2- The Yellow Knife
Yellowknife is another impressive place in Canada to explore if you are visiting Canada for the first time. Yellowknife is a natural phenomenon that you do not get to see often. It is a rare sight and is located in the Northwest Territories. It is the capital of the Northwest Territories and is the only city in the territory. It is a historic mining city built on gold and is now sustained by diamonds. It is located on the North shore of the Great Slave Lake. One of the ways to enjoy this beautiful view is to travel from coast to coast, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Another way to enjoy it is to Take a drive across the Trans-Canada Highway or ride on the Canadian, a train from the 1950s that journeys from Toronto to Vancouver for 3 to 4 days.

Number 3- Banff National Park
The third on the list of most beautiful places in Canada is Banff National Park. Banff National Park is Canada's oldest park, situated in Alberta. It was established in 1885 and covered about 6,641 square kilometers. It has a mountainous terrain with ice fields and many glaciers.

Yellowknife | Canada , capital of the Northwest Territories

Yellowknife is a city in the Northwest Territories, Canada.
Understand[edit]
Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories. It is on the North Arm of Great Slave Lake, on Yellowknife Bay. Yellowknife was originally founded as a gold-mining town. Today, most of Yellowknife is quite compact, and the main areas of interest can be easily reached on foot. New Town is the current downtown core. It is bordered by 47th Street to the north, 53rd Street to the south, 52nd Avenue to the east, and Veteran's Memorial Way (49th Avenue) to the west. Franklin Avenue (50th Avenue) is the main thoroughfare. The corner of Franklin Avenue and 50th Street is considered to be the city's centre.
Old town, where the original city of Yellowknife was founded, is located at the base of the hill on Franklin Avenue, on a peninsula that juts into Yellowknife Bay, and on Latham Island. This area is primarily residential, but remains home to some of Yellowknife's oldest businesses.
See[edit][add listing]
Take a tour from one of the many tour companies around Yellowknife, such as Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures or Beck's Kennels. They offer many programs. These include dog sledding, aurora viewing, shoreline breakfast/lunch, wildlife viewing, fishing trips, etc.
Aurora Borealis (Northern lights) This is the one thing that you must see. There are many tour companies that offer different ways of seeing the Aurora Borealis, such as snowmobile, sled dog expedition, photography workshops and tractor rides to various lodges.
Do[edit][add listing]
Yellowknife is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. There are several scenic walking and hiking trails within the city boundaries. The Ingraham Trail (Highway 4) connects Yellowknife to many lakes, rivers, and hiking routes that draw campers, hikers, paddlers, fishers, and hunters.
The winter months are dominated by winter sports: hockey, curling, skating, cross-country skthe gold mines have closed, and the city has reinvented itself as Canada's Diamond Capital. The city is the administrative centre for the Northwest Territories, and in spite of its mining heritage, the public service dominates the workforce. Despite its low population of around 20,000, the city has a bustling downtown with quite a few highrises and a distinct skyline.
