SOCHI RUSSIA | That Warm City on the South

Definitely a MUST VISIT place in Russia!

Where is Sochi - the city is situated along the Black Sea in Southern Russia, near the border with Abkhazia/Georgia. Sochi is Russia’s only subtropical resort city located in Krasnodar krai, 1,620 km south of Moscow (around 2,5 hours flight from Moscow). Sochi is informally referred to as the summer, the southern and resort “capital” of Russia.

Winter Olympic games of 2014 were held in Sochi. We will visit the Olympic Park that was constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics. Located in the Adlersky City District of Sochi.

And go to the mountains in Rosa Khutor - a unique all-the-year-round mountain-climatic resort of world class with cable ways and different entertainments.

...and we will visit Abkhazia, which is located only 2,5km from Sochi! :)

The Startling Beauty of Yankicha Island in the Russian Far East

A geographical marvel of almost mythical beauty, Yankicha is a standout feature of the Kuril Islands.
At the island’s centre lies a vast caldera, accessible only at high tide, which is dotted with fumaroles and hot springs. In places, the surface water bubbles and gurgles, hinting to the island’s volcanic origin.
A dramatic weather system characterizes this alien destination, which seems to jut from the water, as if imagined.
Wildlife abounds here, but competes with the breathtaking scenery for the attention of visitors.
Yankicha Island is the type of place that retrains the senses.

Far From Civilization In Russia. Remote Taiga Village without roads and communication

Today we arrived in the village - Ust-Anzas. This remote village is located in the Tashtagol region. The population is approximately 100 people.
ere the Shors live. This is the indigenous people of Russia. There are very few of them left and these people are threatened with complete extinction. In total, there are 13,000 Shors left on Earth. And most of them live on the territory of Mountain Shoria. Kemerovo region of Russia.

Not far from Ust Anzas there are such villages as: Ust Azas, Za-Mrasu, Chazy-Bug (up the river Mrasu); Far Kezek, Near Kezek, Cheley and the village of Parushka (down the Mrasu River). There are no roads to these villages, so many of them are already abandoned.

For a long time, taiga people lived without electricity, gas, communications and roads. And only in 2019, the authorities provided every house with solar panels. Now the locals have refrigerators and TVs in their homes. But still there is no cellular communication and the Internet. There is no school. In September, children are sent to a boarding school in Tashtagol. And they come to their parents only for the holidays. It was such a time that we found them in this amazing village.

Mountain Shoria (Shorsk. Taglyg Shor) is a mountain-taiga region located in the southern part of the Kemerovo region at the junction of Altai, Sayan and Kuznetsk Alatau. The region can conditionally be attributed to the Altai mountain system.

Mountain Shoria got its name from the indigenous people - the Shors.

We are interested in learning how our ancestors lived, to study their traditions and to master ancient crafts and meals.

Kamchatka Russia - Tolbachik Climb

The third and final climb of our Kamchatka trip in August 2016; Plosky Tolbachik at 3085m. After our arrival in Petropavlosky and climbs of Avachinsky and Bezymainny, we continued our trek through Kluchevskoy National Park. This video story covers days 5 through to 8 and our journey out in our now favourite form of Russian transport; the 6x6. During this part of the Expedition we saw 2 Brown Bears, the largest and coolest lava fields I've ever seen and climbed the highest volcano of our trip Plosky Tolbachik in fantastic weather. The latter was a fairly big days climb of 1700m over 24km and 11.5hrs had some of the group smarting a little (Lawrence...).

This trip was put together by Adventure Peaks, with trip leader John Walker and our two Russian guides both conveniently called Alexy. With Lawrence and myself were Fiona, Ricky and Adam (aka 'The Silent Assassin', 'Uncle Fester' and 'Steady Eddie').

(This video was originally uploaded in Sep 2016, but the video developed an error and had to be replaced in Dec 2019. It had received 764 views at the time it was reset)

This is the remotest part of Russia! | Unforgettable experience on Kamchatka peninsula

Here Russia begins. Welcome to the Far East of Russia - Kamchatka.

In this episode, we will fly 8 hours(!!) from Moscow to the capital of Kamchatka - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and then explore the wildlife of the peninsula.

THE REAL RUSSIAN FAR EAST | KAMCHATKA - Volcanoes and indigenous cultures

This is the final episode of our big trip around Russia, after we left Yakutsk, we continued our journey to Vladivostok before we headed to the remote peninsula of Kamchatka!
We had the chance to experience the local Koryak culture with an amazing volcanic landscape.

As we decided to move to Russia, we chose to board the transsiberian from Moscow and visit as many cities as possible before we decide in which city we will settle down.

in this video we give you highlights on Kamchatka trip
11-17 July 2021

we flew to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city and spent a week there, taking a day trips to the volcanoes nearby (2-3 h car ride away from Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky)
as you see the road is rough and weather can be very different.
Kamchatka requires some hiking (a day hike up to the volcano) abilities. You can also take helicopter tours (500 K USD per person a day) which we did not but you need to book in advance and prepare that weather might not allow flying.
