3 days in Xi'an - TOP Attractions Terracotta Warriors + more | CHINA
If you've ever dreamed of seeing the terracotta warriors, seeing the most well preserved ancient fortress in the world or simply eating some of the best hand pulled noodles then Xi'an needs to go on your travel bucket list.
We're joined by our parents who flew all the way from NZ for this special family trip. We made our way around some of Xi'an's most prominent landmarks. 3 days of adventure starting with visiting The Terracotta Army.
We have always wanted to see the terracotta army in Xian China. We were fortunate enough to see a few of the terracotta warriors in an exhibition shown at Te Papa (Wellington, NZ) not too long ago but seeing the actual terracotta warriors / terracotta army pit in Xi'an, China itself where they have been and still are being excavated is simply amazing.
Insanely crowded but it's a must visit attraction when in Xian China to visit the terracotta army.

Xi'an is well known for its delicious Chinese noodles so we hit up a local restaurant for a bowl of mouth watering hand pulled Xi'an noodles. We both love Xian noodles so getting to have them in Xian China itself was so good!
We then visited the Small Wild Goose Pagoda sometimes also known as Little Wild Goose Pagoda which is one of two significant pagodas in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The other being the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Both pagodas are important Buddhist sites, dating back to the Tang Dynasty around 1,300 years ago.
Finally we took a walk along Xian's city fortress also known as Xi'an City Wall and Fortifications of Xi'an. It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China and also one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Definitely another must visit when in Xi'an China. We went closer to the evening and was able to enjoy and capture a beautiful sunset over Xi'an too.

Four Main Gates: East Gate (Changle Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), North Gate (Anyuan Gate)
You can get your tickets at any of these gates.
The next day we visited one of the most famous mountains of China which is Mount Hua aka Huashan. The area is huge so there are multiple different routes you can take. We decided to go on a cable car up Huashan mountain for our parents' sake. The cable car line starts from Donggoukou to West Peak with a stop at White Sparrow Temple. The whole ride is about 4,211 meters (2.6 miles) long and takes about 20 minutes.
Later on that evening we return to check out Muslim Street as well as the Great Mosque of Xi'an. The Great Mosque of Xi'an despite it being a mosque is unique because of its ancient Chinese architecture. It's a nice quiet place to visit especially if you're needing a break from the super loud and busy Muslim Street.
Muslim Street in Xi'an is packed with a lot of streetfood, restaurants and souvenir stalls. Definitely another top place to visit when in Xi'an China. After a full day of adventure we find ourselves some more delicious hand pulled noodles because when in Xi'an, you must get as much Xi'an noodles as you can in you ????

For our final day our family went to Shaanxi History Museum. Shaanxi History Museum was the first modern national museum in China and definitely worth visiting if you enjoy learning about ancient Chinese history.

Walk in Hancheng Lake Park, a beautiful park with Han Dynasty City Wall Relic Site ｜China｜西安｜汉城湖
Hancheng Lake Park is located in Weiyang District, Xi ‘an, Shaanxi Province, 200 meters south of the cross road of Fengcheng Fourth Road and Zhuhong Road, the former Tuanjie reservoir (ancient canal), the widest water is 80 meters, the narrowest 30 meters, water depth 4 to 6 meters. It is opened in 2011.
In addition to beautiful natural landscapes, it houses many heritage sites dating from as far back as the Han Dynasty (202 B.C. - 220A.C.) and architecture built in Han style. In 129 BC, Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC to 9 AD)accepted the advice of Zheng Dangshi, the minister of finance at that time, to dig the first official transportation channel. The project took tens of thousands of soldiers three years to finish under the supervision of Xu Bo, a famous hydraulic master of the Han Dynasty.The channel extended more than 150 km from the Kunming Lake southwest of Chang'an city, passing the southeast of the Han Chang'an city (north of present day Xi'an), merged with the Chanhe and Bahe rivers, and flowed eastward alongside the Weihe River to enter the Yellow River. It played an important role in transporting military supplies for Chang'an city.
Hancheng Lake has seven major themed areas: The Heavenly World, Bacheng Gate Wonders, Waterside Town, Domains of the Han Empire, Fu'ang Gate Landscapes, The Han Glamour, and Anmen Prosperity. The southeast corner of Han Dynasty Chang'an City Wall relic site is located in here. And there is a 21.5 meter (70 feet) tall statue of Emperor Wu of Western Han in the park. The substrate of 7 meters (23 feet) high means he is the seventh emperor of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 24 A.D). There is Four Han-Style Watchtowers, which is a landmark building of Hancheng Lake Park. In Waterwheel Square, there are two huge waterwheels in Han Dynasty style. In the elm garden of the Hancheng Lake Park stands a “Sacred Yellow Elm”. It is a kind of rare species of tree with a history of nearly a thousand years, which can be named “the king of the elm”.The Shangwu Bridge is one of the landmark bridges in Hancheng Lake Park. Its main body is carved with four gilded dragons, representing the stateliness of Emperor Wu from the Han Dynasty. The most well-known attraction is Dafeng Pavilion with a height of 64 meters (70 yards).It has museums of Bovine’s Culture and Ceramics, 3D Theater, Silk Road Museum, Gallery of Han Culture, Exhibition of World Heritage of Wooden Handicraft, Hall of Han Dynasty’s Clothing, Exhibition of Military Campaign. On the top floor of Dafeng Pavilion, you can overview the Hancheng Lake Park.There is also a Gods’ Platform. It was originally built by Emperor Wu in order to welcome the gods and pray for peace and prosperity.In the Sculpture Square, you can see a 200 meters (218 yards) long sculpture, which is the largest sculpture in Xi'an and it depicts the major events from the Han Dynasty. People can learn the greatness and prosperity of the Western Han Culture and Civilization.
At night, at its food quarterHan Cheng Da Ji, you can enjoy the fantastic street foods as well as the live music performed by local bands.

BON- Da Yan Ta in Xi'an
Da Yan Ta, a 1400 year old landmark in Xi'an City, used to be a place where Buddhist doctrines which were brought back from Monk Xuanzang's trips to India were kept. In 1719 a measurement was taken to see how far it had tilted and the result was 198mm, and up until 1996, the measurement increased to 1010mm. However, the monument has not only remained stable, but now seems to be slowly tilting back to its upright position. Since 2000, Da Yan Ta has tilted back 1mm every year, so if you haven't been back to Xi'an in a while, then go and take a look- it might be straighter than when you last saw it.

Walk in Xi'an Dayan Pagoda Square and Great Tang All Day Mall｜China｜大雁塔广场(大慈恩寺)、大唐不夜城｜西安｜4K HDR｜2021
Dayan Pagoda, also know as Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in Yanta District of Xi'an City, about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the downtown of the city（Bell Tower). Standing in the Da Ci'en Temple complex, it attracts numerous visitors for its fame in the Buddhist religion and its simple but appealing style of construction. It’s one of the symbols of the Xi'an.
Da Ci'en Temple is the home of Dayan Pagoda. In 648, the temple is built to commemorate the dead virtuous queen, for which the status and scale far exceeded all others. Today, with an area of 50,738 square meters (12.5 acres), one seventh of the original area, it still retains its grandeur.
Before the temple,there stands a statue of hierarch Xuanzang, the meritorious hierarch. With guarding lions at both sides of the gate, the temple seems stately for lions were said to function as talismans.
The Great Tang All Day Mall, also known as Datang Ever Bright City or Grand Tang All Day Mall is located at the foot of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. It’s one of the best places you should visit in Xi’an. The axis of Datang Ever Bright City is a pedestrian street of 1500 meter in length and 500 meter in width. Along the pedestrian street, statues tell stories of the Tang Dynasty. Based off many different themes, these statues fall into nine groups: Powerful emperors of Tang Dynasty, historical figures, story of national heroes, classical art works, etc. The statue groups comprehensively present the achievements of Tang Dynasty (618 - 907). In addition, Datang Ever Bright City has four cultural buildings: Xi'an Concert Hall, Shaanxi Grand Theater, Xi'an Artists Gallery, Qujiang Movie City.
The night of Great Tang All Day Mall is so attractive. Tourists can enjoy plenty of street performances, and a variety of street food and shopping here. Extra activities and performance will be held during holidays.

Xi'an City Wall, also known as the Fortifications of Xi'an, is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
Xi’an City Wall includes four gates and they are respectively named as Changle (meaning eternal joy) in the east, Anding (harmony peace) in the west, Yongning (eternal peace) in the south and Anyuan (forever harmony) in the north.
The south gate, Yongning Gate, is one of the most time-honored and magnificent one among all the city gates. It is near to the Bell Tower(Just 10 minutes’ walking distance), center of the city. The most important greeting ceremonies are usually held in the south gate square. The South Gate Square is located in the central axis of Xi’an City which cross The Bell Tower. This axis was formed in Ming Dynasty(1582). It is the center of Xi'an culture, tourism and commerce. It is restored and formally open to public on September 6, 2014, covering an area of around 7.9 acres (32,000 square meters).
In the evening the City Wall and South Gate are illuminated and provide a stunning view. Today, I walked around the famous places, including South Gate Square, City Wall Park, Pomegranate Garden, South Gate Plaza, Shuyuanmen Ancient Cultural Street(under construction) to view the most beautiful scenery in Xi’an.
