Yanam is covered with coconut trees. It is located over the banks of the Gauthami Godavari River. Humidity is high in this region. The river Gauthami Godavari is one of the main branches of the river Godavari. It enters the Bay of Bengal after flowing about 12 km through Yanam.
The Kalyāṇōtsavam Festival is celebrated in the month of Phālguṇa (February/March) every year by the people of Yanam. The festival commences on Phālguṇa Śuddha Pāḍyami with Lord Venkanna Babu's Kalyāṇam. On that day he will be made bridegroom and then a procession on streets with chariots each day occurs and Ponnavōhanam, Ratha Yātra (Rathōtsavam) and Chakratīrtham are the important events of the festival. Vāhana Samprōkshaṇa (ritual cleansing of the chariot) will be done by priests everyday for each Vāhanam used for procession. During the festival days, 150,000 devotees come to Yanam to receive the blessings of Lord Venkanna Babu.
The Ratham was built in 1950 by the then Committee under then Assemblée Répresentative, Kanakala Tatayya Naidou. The Ratham's weight is around 15 tonnes. It was partially damaged to the heavy cyclonic storm in November 1996 but was renovated in 1998. The Ratham was carried throughout the town in the early days. After the electrification work, the Ratham's route has been limited from Chinna Center to the Kotha Bus Stand. It is carried by devotees singing slogans and bhajans. The Government of Puducherry has declared a holiday for Yanam on this special event.
Every year in March, a Catholic Festival is celebrated. Devotees come and worship Mother Mary. Devotees are not only Christians but also Muslims, Hindus and from other religions.
The site for the mosque was donated by the French Government in 1848. At that time a small mosque was constructed. Then in 1956, it was remodelled. It was demolished in 1978 and a new mosque constructed. In 1999–2000, the mosque was expanded to become the Grand Mosque. Around 200 persons can pray in this mosque at a time. Every year, Ramzan, Bakrid and Milad un Nabi functions are celebrated. The mosque caters to the people of nearby villages like Thallarevu, Kolanka, Sunkarapalem. which are in the adjacent state of Andhra Pradesh.

Yanam is one of the regions in the Union Territory of Puducherry. which is 870 Kms away from it. It is situated on the East Coast of the Indian Peninsula at 16 degrees 42' northern latitude, and between 82 degree 11' Eastern longitude bounded on all sides by the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh State.
The town of Yanam lies on the spot where the River Coringa(Atreya) branches off from Gauthami into two parts. The entire region, consisting of Yanam town and six villages is treated as Municipality for purposes of local administration. The region, which covers an area of 30.0 Sq.KM, has a population of 31,362 according to the 2001 census. The region is bounded on the east and south by river Gauthami Godavari river which discharges itself into Bay of bengal after flowing almost 14 Kms towards east from Yanam.

One of the most popular temples in Andhra Pradesh, a unique Yanthra based on Tripad Vibhuti Narayan Upanishad exists here.
ANTARVEDI
Known as “Varanasi of South”.
BIKKAVOLU OR (BICCAVOLU)
Biccavolu is known for Beautiful stone temple of Lord Shiva. Built by the Eastern Chalukyas in the 9th-10th centuries, the temples are a fine example of the architectural grandeur that was typical of the Dravidian style.
DRAKSHARAAMAM
This temple is one of the “Pancharamas”.
This Holy Pilgrimage is one of the rare few, where the God and Goddess are equally important.
One is Varanasi in Northern India with Viswanatha and Annapurna. Second is Srisailam in Southern India with Sri Mallikharjuna and Bramaramba and third is Draksharama with Bhimanatha and Manikyamba.

This is an ancient and historical temple and also a Vyshnava Divya Kshetra
KOTIPALLI
According to Brahmanda Puranam and Gowthami Mahatyam. Here three famous idols are situated by Lord Indra, Lord Chandra and Kasyapa Maharshi.

PEDDAPURAM (PANDAVULA METTA)
The Pandava brothers arranged a tunnel way to Rajahmundry from this hill through which tunnel they used to have river bath. This hill was named after their name.
PITHAPURAM
Pithapuram is one of the oldest and famous pilgrim places of India. There is an oldest temple called “Padagya Keshatram” in Pithapuram.
RYALI
The exquisite idol, made of black stone depicting Maha Vishnu and Mohini on its front and rear sides, is a real marvel of sculptural dexterity.
SAMARLAKOTA
Known as Kumararama at Bhimavaram in Samarlakota is one among the five important and popular ‘Pancharama’ temples of Andhra.
DWARAKA TIRUMALA ( CHINNA TIRUPATI )
Dwaraka Tirumala, also famously known as Chinna Tirupati is a powerful Lord Venkateshwara Temple and is the most famous temple in West Godavari District.
The belief is that visiting Chinna Tirupati is equal to visiting Tirumala Tirupati.
