Wokha is a town and a municipality in the state of Nagaland, India. It is the headquarters of Wokha district and is located about 75 km north of the state capital Kohima.

Wokha literally means head count or census in Lotha language. It has a population of 35,004[1] and is predominantly inhabited by the Lotha Nagas.

The district has four assembly constituencies and 125 recognized villages. It is further divided into 13 administrative units and 7 rural development blocks. It has three ranges namely, Upper Range covering the Wokha, Wozhuro, Chukitong and Englan Circle, Middle Range covering the Lotsu, Sanis and Aitepyong Circle and Lower Range covering the Bhandari Circle and Ralan area.

RIPHYIM VILLAGE
Riphyim is a medium size village located in Englan Circle of Wokha district, Nagaland with total 181 families residing. The Riphyim village has population of 1351 of which 659 are males while 692 are females as per Population Census 2011. In Riphyim village population of children with age 0-6 is 105 which makes up 7.77 % of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Riphyim village is 1050 which is higher than Nagaland state average of 931. Child Sex Ratio for the Riphyim as per census is 1019, higher than Nagaland average of 943. Riphyim village has lower literacy rate compared to Nagaland. In 2011, literacy rate of Riphyim village was 70.06 % compared to 79.55 % of Nagaland. In Riphyim Male literacy stands at 72.65 % while female literacy rate was 67.61 %. As per constitution of India and Panchyati Raaj Act, Riphyim village is administrated by Sarpanch (Head of Village) who is elected representative of village.

Kohima is the capital city of India's north eastern state of Nagaland. With a resident population of almost 100,000, it is the second largest city in the state. Originally known as Kewhira, Kohima was founded in 1878 when the British Empire established its headquarters of the then Naga Hills.

NAGALAND | TOP 10 PLACES TO VISIT IN NAGALAND

It borders the state of Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam to the north, Burma to the east, and Manipur to the south. The state capital is Kohima, and the largest city is Dimapur. The state is inhabited by 16 major tribes — Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Kachari, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi, Yimchunger, and Zeme-Liangmai (Zeliang)as well as sub-tribes.


1) Kisama Heritage Village, Kohima
The name KiSaMa is derived from two villages namely, Kigwema (KI) and Phesama(SA) and MA which means Village. The objective of the Heritage Village is to protect and preserve all ethnic cultural heritages by establishing a common management approach and comprehensive data base for perpetuation and maintenance for promotion of tourism.


2) Nagaland State Museum, Kohima
The State Museum is located 1.5 kilometers away from Kohima. It allows visitors to peek through the vibrant culture of Nagaland and different stages through the history of the land. The museum showcases most fascinating artifacts and aspects of Nagaland tribal life.
Timing: 10:00 am to 4.00 pm (Tuesday to
Sunday)


3) Kachari Ruins, Dimapur
The Dimasa Kachari Ruins is a series of mushroom domed pillars. They were created by the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom, which ruled here before the Ahom invasion into the territory during the 13th Century AD. Their origin and purpose are largely mysterious. Some pillars still stand in all their glory but others have crumbled down.


4) War Cemetery, Kohima
It is a memorial dedicated to soldiers of the 2nd British Division of the Allied Forces who died in the Second World War at Kohima. According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), which maintains this cemetery among many others in the world, there are 1,420 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War at this cemetery, and a memorial to an additional 917 Hindu and Sikh soldiers who were cremated in accordance with their faith.


5) Dzukou Valley
It is a valley located at the border of the states of Nagaland and Manipur. This valley is well known for its natural beauty, seasonal flowers and the overall flora and fauna. The valley is famous for its wide range of flower in every season. But the most famous one is the Dzükou lily. There are many NGOs and adventure tour operators, who organize treks to the Dzükou Valley.


6) Naga Heritage Village, Kohima
The Heritage Village protects and preserves all ethnic cultural heritages of Nagaland. It upholds and sustains the unique identity of dialects, customs and traditions of all the ethnological tribes of Nagaland.


7) Triple Falls, Dimapur
It is the wonderful three tier waterfall located in the Seithekima village. The falls are located at a height of about 280 feet. The water from the falls is believed to merge into a natural pool. Trekking to the falls is one of the major attractions of these falls.


8) The Catholic Cathedral, Kohima
It is the church of the bishop of the diocese of Kohima, and hence, the main church of this diocese of Nagaland. The church is noted for its architecture which incorporates many elements of traditional Naga houses, including its facade which resembles that of a Naga house. The architecture of the cathedral blends into the hill on which it is situated. The 16 feet high carved wood crucifix is one of Asia's largest crosses.


9) Hong Kong Market, Dimapur
On the other side of the railway station is a flea market known as the Hong Kong market. The market is very famous and clothes for varied ages, genders and occasions can be found here. The price of the goods can be very high at times and you should negotiate.


10) Mokokchung Town
It is the district headquarters as well as the main urban hub of Mokokchung district. Its tradition of celebrating Christmas and New Year midnight celebrations in the main town square is regarded as one of the unique features of Mokokchung. Historically, Mokokchung was one of the first Naga Hills sites where the Assam Rifles, led by Britishers, established their outposts (then called stockades) in the later part of the 19th century.

Shiv Shakti Mandir in Wokha town, Nagaland

Home of Lothas having a total geographical area of 1628 Sq. Km, accounting 9.82% of the total geographical area of the State, Wokha District is situated in the mid Western part of the Nagaland State. The Wokha District is situated in the mid western part of Nagaland State, adjacent to Sibsagar plain of the Assam State. It is bounded by Mokokchung District in the North, Kohima District in the South. Zunheboto District in the East and the State of the Assam in the West. The Wokha District is situated at a latitude of 26° '8' North and a longitude of 94° '18' East.

Wokha literally means Census in Lotha. It was a place where Lothas counted heads before spreading out into the villages during their waves of migration. It is a land of beautiful, mountain ranges and rivers and is known for their vibrant dances and folk songs. Some noteworthy hills here are Mount Tiyi and Totsu Cliff. Doyang is the lagest river in the District and there is a Hydro Electricity Station with a capacity of 75MW called Doyang Hydro Project which is located across the Doyang River.

The Topography of the district is more or less similar with that of other district in the state, having ranges and ridges di-sected by seasonal streams. the altitude ranges from 304.3 Mtrs to 1313.67 Mtrs (MSL). The climate is warm in the lower plain areas, moderately warm in the upper region during summer but cold in winter. The monsoon starts from May and continues till October. The annual rainfall varies from 200 cm to 250 cms. Wokha is also famous for fruits like Oranges, Passion fruits, Plum and Bananas. The soil types are recent Alluvium, old Alluvium Mountains valley Lateritic soil, brows forest and podzolic soils.

Agriculture and allied activities are the principal means of livelihood for the vast majority of the population residing in the rural area. Rice is the major food crop and occupies 77% of the total cultivable area. Other major crops grown are maize, tapioca, pulses, soya beans and variety of organic vegetables, which are available in the local market year around.

The staple food diets of the people are Rice, Bamboo shoot of various types, fermented of dried fish, yam, Molasses, Vegetables and meat, which is a delicacy. Foods are mostly boiled and species are rarely used. They are very particular, both in their food preparation and habit of taste. The people of the district also practice certain traditional cottage Industries mostly during the off season to meet their local requirements, like black smithy, traditional weaving, carpentry and handicraft etc. minerals like coal and cude oil are found at Changpang area in the lower range.
