Today we’re showing you around this charming and historic university town situated in southwestern Germany. This was the final stop of our trip across Germany and while we only had 3 days here, we still managed to cover a lot of the main attractions in the old town.
In this video, we’ll be touring the ruins of Heidelberg Castle and exploring some of its gems which include an enormous wine barrel and the apothecary museum. We’ll wander through Heidelberg University, which happens to be the oldest university in all of Germany, and at one point had an infamous student jail. Plus, we’ll hike the Philosopher’s Way for epic sunset views, we’ll stroll along the banks of the Neckar River, and we’ll enjoy some hearty German and international dishes along the way because you already know how much we love food.

-Fortunately, the world's urban population (except for President Trump) has recognized the problem of climate catastrophe better than the rural population. Nevertheless, we were pleased that the delicate seedling of the climate protest also reached this region in Wittlich.
Thanks to the commitment of Mrs. Dipl.-Psych. Sabine Hecker, spokeswoman of the City Association of the Greens and her husband Dr. Josef Hecker, the climate strike also took place in Wittlich on 29.11.2019. They were supported by Günter Esch from Bruch, Alderman of the Association of the Greens, Wittlich-Land.
The event aimed to support the demands of the initiative towards the Federal Government:
- Compliance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the 1.5° C target
- Reaching net-zero in 2035
- Coal exit until 2030
- 100% renewable energy supply until 2035
Until the end of 2019
- End of coal subsidies for fossil fuels
- Switch off ¼ of the coal power
- a tax on all greenhouse gas emissions; according to the Federal Environment Agency 180 euros per tonne of CO2.
Although relatively few people had come, many useful suggestions have been made to improve the situation. Nevertheless, there are doubts that the actual measures will be sufficient to save the earth.
The aim of the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) is to save energy and use the energy required as efficiently as possible. Nevertheless, although the regulations have been in place since 2009 and should also be applied to the sale of old buildings, it is clear that no one sticks to them, as the guidelines are not checked. Also, some regulations are so absurd that no sense is recognizable.

Glücklicherweise hat weltweit die Bevölkerung in den Städten (außer dem amerikanischen Präsidenten Trump) das Problem der Klimakatastrophe besser erkannt, als die Landbevölkerung. Dennoch haben wir uns gefreut, dass auch in Wittlich das zarte Pflänzchen des Klimaprotestes auch diese Region erreicht hat.
Dank dem Engagement von Frau Dipl.-Psych. Sabine Hecker, Sprecherin des Stadtverbandes der Grünen und ihrem Mann Dr. Josef Hecker fand am 29.11.2019 der Klimastreik auch in Wittlich statt. Unterstützt wurden sie von Günter Esch aus Bruch, Beigeordneter Verbandsgemeinderat der Grünen, Wittlich-Land.
Ziel der Veranstaltung war die Unterstützung der Forderungen der Initiative an die Bundesregierung:
- Einhaltung der Ziele des Pariser Abkommens und des 1,5° C – Ziels
- Netto-Null 2035 erreichen
- Kohleausstieg bis 2030
- 100% erneuerbare Energieversorgung bis 2035
Bis Ende 2019
- Ende der Kohlesubventionen für fossile Energieträger
- ¼ der Kohlekraft abschalten
- eine Steuer auf alle Treibhausgas-Emissionen; laut Umweltbundesamt 180 Euro pro Tonne CO2.
Obwohl nur relativ wenige Menschen gekommen waren, sind doch viele sinnvolle Vorschläge gemacht worden, um die Situation zu verbessern. Dennoch sind Zweifel angebracht, dass die tatsächlichen Maßnahmen ausreichen werden, um die Erde zu retten.
Ziel der Energieeinsparverordnung (EnEV) ist Energie zu sparen und die benötigte Energie möglichst effizient zu nutzen. Dennoch zeigt sich, obwohl die Regelungen seit 2009 gelten und auch beim Verkauf von Altbauten Anwendung finden sollten, dass sich niemand daran hält, da es nicht überprüft wird. Außerdem sind manche Vorschriften so absurd, dass keinerlei Sinn erkennbar ist.

9 German Chirstmas Markets in 1 day | Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Duisberg, Essen & more
Today we are visiting 9 German Christmas markets in different cities in basically 12 hours one day!
All of the cities are located in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany which makes it convenient to travel to them.
On this adventure I am not alone I am joined with 3 friends, plus Blitzen was the one who came up with this crazy idea. It sounded crazy enough to try it. And without these guys this video would not be possible ????
Our goals for each christmas market was to:
Take a picture with a christmas tree
Eat one Christmas market food. In final stop we took more then one since we were pretty hungry.
Since it was a Sunday the markets were open from 11.00 till 21.00 at best. So the time was limited. Initially we wanted to go to ten but with the trains being inconsistent and this short time span it was just not possible.
Please note that time limitation in each market was very limited so we could not explore the full potential in each city like Cologne or Mulheim. So my final ranking was what it was :D
