Ale Trails - Season 2: Episode 4 - Kamloops / Williams Lake

'Ale Trails' is a doc style mini-series looking at the intersection between mountain biking and local craft breweries, and how both work to support and enhance their community. In our final episode of Season 2, we’re heading to Kamloops and Williams Lake. Either town could hold the title ‘Birthplace of Freeride’, and both have matured and expanded their mountain bike offerings to include beginner and adaptive friendly trails. On the beer side, visitors and locals alike will be awed by the diversity and depth of the craft beer scene featuring 5 unique breweries serving up anything from traditional lagers, 10%+ Belgian Tripples and IPAs so hazy you can stand a fork up in them.

An Introduction to the Williams Lake Stampede Rodeo

If this is your first rodeo, so to speak, then Williams Lake is the place for you.

Small when compared to its Calgary cousin (the exuberant Calgary Stampede,) the rodeo at Williams Lake punches above its weight by providing a rich, authentic atmosphere when the cowboys are in town.

The people here are passionate about what they do and still find foreigners a novelty so it’s easy to ask questions to help understand the rules.

Rodeos themselves are timed (a set order of events need to take place before a deadline) and the set pieces are flanked by extras like Freestyle Motorcross stunts and after-parties in saloons.

Read more here:

Here's the transcription;

Roy Call, Stock Contractor: The way the rough stock events work is the horse or the bull are worth 50 percent of the hundred points. So each judge has 50 points. So 25 points are for the horse and 25 points are for the rider. Basically, we’re looking for horses in the bronc riding that are going to kick over their head and really buck hard and give the cowboy a chance to spur and compose themselves and try to show how good they are under control. He cannot touch his horse, he cannot touch his rigging. He cannot touch himself, that is a disqualification.
The bull riding is the same as horse riding, fifty percent of the score out of the hundred. We are not looking for timing or procedure with them. We are looking for real challenging, buck hard, change directions, and be hard to ride. We are looking for bulls who spin, bulls that jump out and go back the other way and that is what we are looking for.
The way we like to see it is that horses and bulls are two very different types of animals. Horses are smart, social animals and I like to think of them as more the feminine female type. Bulls are not so social, not so smart. They’re basically teenage boys that think about a couple of things at a time. Very few of them are productive and they’re hard to be around.

There's no real fancy stuff, there’s not a lot of tricks to it. You have to be able to work in rain and hundred degrees and so it has to be simple.

Basically, the halter that we use on the broncs goes across the horse’s head and is adjustable around the back. A lot are adjustable under the nose to cover the nose band. As you can see the nose band is covered with sheep skin and it is so soft so it won't hurt them across the nose.
The other one you are going to hear lots about is the horse flank. We put it on the horse, it goes just behind the curve of its belly and in front of its back legs. Others actually have a better name for it: they call it the kicker. If you don't put a kicker on a horse, the horse is still going to buck but he’s going to kick towards the front where he can feel the contestant’s spurs or front cinch. So putting a flank on the horses back end, you encourage the horse to kick backwards opposed to forwards and makes better timing. It is sheep skinned lined, it moves side to side and the sheep skin moves all over the place it is not stuck into the body because it slows them down. You want just to tickle them and make them stretch out.

Abigail King: How long would I last on a bull?

Roy Call: Oh, I don't think you last very long on a bull. You’d look great for a while and maybe get your picture taken and get off before the gate opens. It’s really tough on the body.

#Affordable Travels | Main Attractions | Family Fun Trip Ideas

Well, summer is just around the corner and you have finally decided to travel to British Columbia? Perhaps BC is your home province and you want to enjoy it this summer? That is awesome, this guide will help you decide to see some of the best attractions; places, waterfalls, camping, hiking and picnic areas British Columbia has to offer.

Where to go in Thompson/Okanagan region for beautiful camping, and affordable overnight stays? Where are the best places to see Glaciers in British Columbia? Where are the best places to go for a family picnic in British Columbia?

So, what is my secret of seeing this place and not have any issues finding parking? I will share with you in this YouTube Video Description. Choose a less crowded time to visit. Either come very early morning or come at a time where many people are busy eating or preparing their meals or preparing to leave.

Do you like crowded places? Simple hiking trails? Beautiful and scenic? Here I will share the TOP 20+ Places to see in British Columbia. But that does not mean that these are the ONLY BEST places in British Columbia.

I will also tell you where you can find the most affordable accommodation in and around Jasper and Banff without having to break your wallet. So, the first thing is to know how much time do you want to spend in British Columbia? Where to go and what to do? Which parks to visit?

Places are numerous and there are plenty of main attractions all over. The question is how much time you have to spend in British Columbia? Some people come here for a day or two during the week while others come here during the weekends. And there are those who spend a whole week or more here. If you can spend a whole week, then you will see a whole lot of fun and epic places.

A whole week will break your wallet and leave you broke? Right! No, I can show you and share with you places to see even spending more than a week and yet still be able to save up as much and to travel and see other attractions in Alberta and elsewhere in Canada.

British Columbia is divided into Seven Regions, they are:

North Coast Region
Northeast Region
Vancouver Island/West Coast Region
Mainland/Southwest Region
Cariboo Region
Thompson / Okanagan Region
Kootenay Region

Here are some of the Names Of The Places Featured In This Video:

Sleeping In An Un-Insulated Van In Rest Stop In Winter In Snow Storm

If you could spare 5-7 days for each region then you would have covered this entire province from top to bottom. However, you cannot be stationary at one location because you will have to travel through the whole region to see the main attractions in that region.

Second thing you need to know is where to find the most affordable places for your accommodations? Nature is best enjoyed as in camping and tenting and spending time in nature and wilderness.

Let me share with you a simple story Radium Hot Springs is a well-known attraction spot in the Kootenay National Parks region. There are hot spring resorts ranging from $280 per night to $500+ per night. Not far from there is also regions where you can find campsites for less than $10 per night and you have all the things you need there. Plus, you can fish, and swim and hike and all the things one can dream of. A week at Radium Hot Springs Resorts cost $2000 - $3500 + Taxes. I have spent more than 3 weeks in this region and ALL of my accommodation totals came to $175 for 21 Days.

BUGS and MOSQUITOES? Never had any problems with those and I will tell you what to do, there are many natural ingredients you can buy in the market and make your own mosquito repellent and be free from all those chemicals and poisons that you put over yourself.
