Whitehorse, like Dawson City, owes its existence to the Klondike gold-rush, which began in 1897. Having survived the arduous and sometimes deadly journey from Skagway over White Pass, gold prospectors had to negotiate the Miles Canyon and Whitehorse rapids before descending the Yukon River to Dawson's riches. From the first arrivals, a small settlement grew up on the river's right bank, opposite the present town. The seething, foaming waters of the rapids, rearing like white steeds, gave the settlement its name - Whitehorse (although nothing remains to be seen of the rapids).
Home to half the population of the Yukon, Whitehorse has grown into a major center for arts and culture in recent years. The small but lively territory capital is a hub of the north, standing at the intersection of the Alaska and Klondike Highways, only about 80 kilometers north of the provincial border with British Columbia.

A Tour of Whitehorse! | Glamping, Canyons and Emerald Lake
Whitehorse is the capital city of the Yukon and is a wonderful place to visit. If you are driving to Alaska you have almost certainly passed through Whitehorse. Whitehorse hosts thousands of visiting tourists all throughout the summer. There were so many beautiful sights to see while in the Yukon but our favorites were certainly Miles Canyon and Emerald Lake. These were both beautiful natural landmarks. Glamping in the Yukon was quite the experience. From soaking in the tub to waking up in the morning freezing we experienced it all.

Our EPIC drive through the YUKON on the Alaska Highway! (Whitehorse, Kluane National Park, & MORE!)
The second half of the Alaska Highway took us through the Yukon and WOW, what a magical place!
The Yukon is one of Canada’s three territories and is known for the Klondike Gold Rush and its immense wilderness and wildlife. We spent 3.5 days driving through the Yukon and were constantly in awe by the sheer beauty of the landscapes around us.

North by Northwest Territories (Pt. 2) - Stop-Over/Tour in Whitehorse, Yukon
November 8, 2019 - I'm spending one night with friends in Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon - and before the sun sets, I wanted to get out and visit the historic downtown core of this beautiful city on the banks of the Yukon River.
From Erik Nielson Whitehorse International Airport, high on the bluff overlooking the city, right down to the banks of the Yukon River where the S.S. Klondike rests, let's check out some of what this city has to offer, including Main Street, the Vistors Centre, the Yukon Legislative Assembly, some of the local shops, and of course, let's wrap it up at a local brewery, the Woodcutter's Blanket.
And a special guest appearance by Marge Simpson for some reason!

Exploring the Yukon Territory, Canada & Alaska
We spent three weeks road tripping through the beautiful Yukon Territory, Alaska and northern British Columbia in a Canadream Truck Camper. We drove over 3000km, got 1 flat tire and had adventures that will last us a lifetime.
We started our journey spending four days in Whitehorse exploring the beautiful capital city of the Yukon. Here we explored all the national historic sites, Miles Canyon and soaking in the charm of the biggest city in the Yukon.
From there we hit the road and headed towards Dawson City with a few stops along the way including a stop to Keno City where we ended up naming our Husky after the smallest town in the territory. We made it to the home of the gold rush explored Discovery Claim where they first found gold, visited Dredge Number 4 National Historic Site, Midnight Dome, S.S. Keno National Historic Site, gabled and watched the show at Diamond Tooth Gerties and hit the road up the Dempster Highway where we got a flat tire on Chris' birthday but it makes it all part of the adventure.
After we left Dawson City we stopped in at the Shipyard Graveyard on the otherside of the river from Dawson City and headed towards North America's highest border crossing and stopped into Chicken, Alaska. From Chicken we headed down to Skagway Alaska, into Northern BC and then onto the Alaska Highway to Kluane National Park where our breaths were taken away by the incredible mountain St Elias Mountain range where we took a plane ride up into the mountains and landed in front of Mount Logan
The Yukon has the most incredible sites and has turned into one of our favourite adventures we have ever gone on. Have you had a chance to explore the Yukon or want to?

This is the Hot Springs and Arctic Char segment of DIY Destinations - Whitehorse and Kluane National Park. The host Charles and Sarah will visit the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs to check many of its natural pools. Newly open in 2022 after three years of very expensive renovation from the former Takhini Hot Springs, but their history dates back to 1902. As well, sampling the traditional Arctic char fish, one of the important local fishes consumed in the Yukon.
