Lauterbrunnen nestles in one of the most impressive valleys of the Alps, between gigantic rock walls and high peaks. With its 72 roaring waterfalls as well as secluded valleys, flower-filled alpine pastures and secluded mountain hotels, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of Switzerland's most important nature reserves.
Lauter Brunnen - the name of the village alone already evokes the singularity of this landscape: the valley of Lauterbrunnen has 72 waterfalls. The most emblematic is the Staubbach waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in Europe, which flows from a rock wall almost 300 meters high. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who visited the valley in 1779, found inspiration in these roaring waters to compose his famous poem “Gesang der Geister über den Wassern”.
In the heart of the “Schwarzer Mönch” mountain, hidden behind impressive rock walls, the Trümmelbach waterfall offers an equally grandiose natural spectacle. Nearly 20,000 liters of water per second rush along ten waterfalls of glacial origin totaling a height of about 200 meters. You can only attend this show in summer, by taking an elevator in the tunnel.
The village of Lauterbrunnen (795m) is the starting point for the most famous tourist destinations in the Jungfrau region. A rack railway connects Lauterbrunnen to the sunny terrace of Wengen on the eastern flank of the Lauterbrunnen valley and the Kleine Scheidegg, where you change trains to climb the Jungfraujoch.
On the opposite side is Mürren, a holiday resort, accessible from Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg. Departing from Stechelberg, the cable car takes you to the top of the Schilthorn, at an altitude of 2971m, famous for having served as the setting for the filming of a classic from the James Bond 007 series: On Her Majesty's Secret Service .

The Jungfrau in the background, flanked by the mighty panorama of the Bernese Alps, the spectacular Lauterbrunnen valley at your feet: Wengen offers a mountain experience of the unadulterated kind. In the car-free Lauberhorn village, which is only accessible by the Wengernalpbahn, relaxation is guaranteed, whether hiking or sunbathing on the terraces of hotels and restaurants.
The resort is located on a sunny, wind-protected terrace at the foot of the Jungfrau, 400 meters above the Lauterbrunnen Valley at 1274 m above sea level. The car-free village, steeped in tradition, offers a family-friendly skiing and hiking area all around the Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg.
With its wooden houses inciting you to nostalgia, the many holiday chalets scattered here and there and the hotels of the Belle Époque, this resort in the Bernese Oberland has managed to preserve the authentic character of a mountain village. The terrace, which opens wide to the south-west, guarantees above-average sunshine. The car-free village of Wengen has been accessible since 1893 by the Wengernalpbahn from Lauterbrunnen, where car parks await cars.
You can easily reach the most important excursion destinations in the Jungfrau region from Wengen. From Kleine Scheidegg, you can observe climbers on the north face of the Eiger through a telescope – one of the most spectacular and difficult climbs in the world. Changing at Kleine Scheidegg, you arrive by train to Jungfraujoch. And from Lauterbrunnen, in the valley, you can reach the summit of the Schilthorn via Mürren or Stechelberg.

Theresienwiese in Munich | Where famous Oktoberfest happens
The Theresienwiese in Munich is a festival grounds located in the Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt district.
Since 1810, the world-famous Oktoberfest has been held annually on this site, making it the largest folk festival in the world.
The 42-hectare special open space is bordered by the Bavariaring and Theresienhöhe and is traversed from west to east by the Matthias-Pschorr-Straße, which is only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The western end of the grounds is marked by the statue of Bavaria, while the eastern end leads to Esperantoplatz.

Punting in Spreewald and feeding penguins at Spreewelten, Germany
After a night of restful prolonged sleep we woke up feeling as though we had already shaken off our jet lag. Feeling recharged we embraced day two in Germany by punting in Spreewald where we were out in nature with ample opportunities to spot wildlife and remote homes located on tiny islands. Our next stop was to the repurposed train station in Lübbenau where we met up with a local artist who had redesigned some of the rooms using themes that represented the local region. Afterwards, it was time for a bit of pampering at Spreewelten where we swam, relaxed and visited numerous saunas. To finish thing off we had a chance to have an up close encounter with penguins with an opportunity to feed them as well. It turns out penguins are a lot like cats in the sense that if you have food you've got yourself a new best friend ;)

Punting in Spreewald and feeding penguins at Spreewelten, Germany Travel Video Transcript:
So good morning from Spreewald! Today we're going to be punting. And this is something completely new to me but apparently in this area because it is made up of lots of little canals and waterways people have to use boats to get around. And they have these punts which are like flat boats that are propelled by poles. So yeah, we're just going to be exploring the area and taking it all in by boat.
So that trip was a lot of fun. We got to see some beautiful old homes on islands and we actually saw a fair amount of wildlife too. Now it is time for lunch. We're hungry. Let's go!
So, lunch has arrived and I think we may have gone overboard with our order. I got a huge fish platter with different kinds of fish from the area. I've also got potatoes with parsley and a nice cucumber salad with some dill. So, yeah, lets bring our appetite.
How is the fish? So, it is a steamed fish. And it is very juicy and very light. So it is a really nice meal especially because we've just had breakfast an hour and a half ago.
We like to eat, eh?
Mmmm.
It's delicious.
Okay, so what are you having for lunch? I got a game goulash with cranberries and mashed potatoes. So that looks really good. I love my goulash.
I'll take a nice big piece.
Wow!
It is really tender meat. My favorite part about this is the sauce. It has a really rich gravy.
Are you going to be sharing some of that with me?
Probably not.
Selfish!
So right now I'm standing outside the train station here in Lübbenau. And we're not about to take a trip or anything. We're here for a different reason. So it turns out a local artist has turned some of the rooms in the train station into kind of like a artsy bed and breakfast. So we're going to be visiting that and see what a hotel in a train station looks like.
So right now we're visiting a room called Spreewald a la carte. And it is basically the whole idea of bringing in the elements that make up the Spreewald region through a menu. So like the different ingredients would be like nature and you have the fish that are in the river. The animals. You've got some branches. So it is very earthy and it is a pretty cool place to stay. But it is booked up so that is why we couldn't stay here this time around.
So we're going to have a very relaxing afternoon today. We're at a place called Spreewelten. And we're here to enjoy the pools, enjoy the sauna and just relax because you know a little pampering is really nice every once in a while.
So not only can you swim here but you also have opportunities to enjoy the sauna. Something I'm really looking forward to doing is feeding penguins a little bit later on.
Well, that wraps up our busy day. We're going to go home and take a rest. And we're going to be right back at you with action tomorrow.
