The 10 Best Places to Live in Georgia (The U.S.) - Job. Family. Retiree. Education

Georgia is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was established in 1732, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies.
Named after King George II of Great Britain, Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788.
Georgia is the 24th largest and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States, home to more than 10 million people,
a number that continues to increase every year thanks to the many charms that this State has to offer.
Georgia is known for many things: beautiful old houses, a rich history, Southern charm, and, of course, some of the most welcoming and unique cities in the country.
Thriving cities and charming towns, beautiful countryside connecting mountain vistas with white-sand beaches,
plus a temperate climate offering all four seasons make Georgia one of the very best places to live in the South.
Across the state, you will find world-class entertainment, professional and recreational sports, and restaurants providing cuisine from around the world.
Below-average housing costs, low taxes — and a cost of living that’s lower than what you’ll find in many other U.S. cities — all combine to make Georgia an affordable place to live.

If you’re new to the state or just aren’t completely sure what you want in your new hometown, the following are considered to be the best places to live in Georgia,
all factors considered – education, healthcare, cost of living, quality of life, crime rate, attractions and amenities.

8. Augusta. (Good for jobs, retirees.)

Waycross, Georgia Driving Tour-US 82

Waycross, Georgia; driving tour; South Georgia
We are retired, and we travel to places that were once thriving but are not doing so well now sharing our thoughts about the places we drive through. We focus on South Georgia, Middle Georgia, and other places surrounding us. Sometimes the places that we visit are doing well. We also visit places of interest like state parks, historical places, and museums. We try to be positive about the areas we go to because there is too much negativity in the world already.

The Golden Isles of Georgia consist of barrier islands, and the mainland port cities of Brunswick and Darien, on the 100-mile-long coast of the U.S. state of Georgia on the Atlantic Ocean. They include St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, Sapelo Island, Blackbeard Island, Historic Darien and Historic Brunswick.

Mild winters, together with natural beaches, vast stretches of marshland, maritime forests, historical sites, and abundant wildlife on both land and sea have made the Golden Isles a travel destination for families, nature-lovers, fishing and water sports enthusiasts, golfers, and history buffs.

All the islands are located within McIntosh County and Glynn County, and make up the lower middle section of Georgia's eleven barrier islands. Annual mild temperatures average 68 °F, with July highs of 90 °F.[1] St. Simons is the largest, with a permanent population of 12,743 residents as of the 2010 census.[2] Curled around its north end and accessible only by boat is Little St. Simons Island—privately owned and maintained in its natural state with a small capacity guest lodge and cottages. Jekyll Island is owned by the state of Georgia and operated as a state park, with limited residential areas. Sea Island is owned by Sea Island Acquisitions, LLC, and is home to the world-famous Cloister resort and residential homes valued in the millions of dollars.[citation needed] Sapelo Island

The City of Brunswick traces its history back to early Colonial times, and the founding of the Georgia colony by General James Oglethorpe. From its earliest days, the port of Brunswick was important to the growth and economy of the new nation. In 1789, George Washington named Brunswick one of the five original ports of entry for the thirteen colonies.[3] During World War II, Brunswick hosted an important construction site for Liberty ships, and Naval Air Station Glynco, a major operational base for blimps.

The City of Darien traces its history back to the construction of Ft. King George in 1722, and later becoming of the second oldest city in Georgia, chartered in 1736. James Oglethorpe laid out the city plan for Darien, noted for its squares and grid pattern much like Savannah, which he also planned. Fort Federica on St. Simons Island was later constructed to protect the City of Darien and its important commerce.

Tourism is the most important economic driver in the Golden Isles, with an estimated 2.4 million visitors in 2014.[4] Other key components of the local economy include the Port of Brunswick, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, aviation support services, and manufacturing. Travelers to the area arrive primarily via Brunswick Golden Isles Airport and Interstate 95. McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport serves general aviation.

GEORGIA - USA Travel Guide | Around The World

Georgia is a US state in the South. The state was named for Great Britain's King George II. Founded in 1733, it was the last of the 13 original colonies that became the first 13 US states.

Georgia is more diverse than many Americans realize, with a scenic seacoast, mountains higher than any peaks in Britain, and large cities as well as extensive rural areas. Its historic sites focus mostly on the Antebellum and Civil War eras and the civil rights movement. (Atlanta was the home of Martin Luther King Jr.) Warm Springs was the Southern home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and he died there in 1945 shortly after beginning his fourth term in office. It's a must for tourists interested in the Great Depression or World War II.

Okefenokee Swamp
The Okefenokee Swamp, known to the Indians as the Land of the Quaking Earth, is an area of swampland in southern Georgia, covering over 770 sq. miles. It is a maze of watercourses, cypress swamps, and swamp grassland. Interesting features are the floating islands, which quake under foot but nevertheless support whole forests and in the past provided protection for Indian settlements. The swamp is home to many endangered species and is home to an estimated 10,000 alligators. From the little town of Waycross there are boat trips into the swamp.

Forsyth Park
Savannah is known for its many beautiful parks and squares. Forsyth Park is the largest park in the city and is a good example of a well designed mid 1800s Southern park. Central features include a period fountain, walking trails, and lovely old trees that drape over the landscape creating much needed areas of shade.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta includes the birthplace and grave of this famous civil rights leader. Also found here are the Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Freedom Hall Complex.

Jimmy Carter National Historic Site
The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains, in southwest Georgia, includes the Carter's home and Jimmy Carter's boyhood home and farm. The site also includes the Plains Train Depot and Plains High School. Visitors can get a glimpse of this president's upbringing and social influences which may have influenced his ideas.

Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is also known as millionaires island. It was bought by a group of East Coast millionaires who named themselves the Jekyll Island Club. In 1947 the island was sold to Georgia for use as a state park. Today the island is a resort area with beaches, nature trails, golf facilities, and camping areas.

Chattahoochee National Forest
The Chattahoochee National Forest covers almost 750,000 acres in northern Georgia. This scenic area, with lakes, rivers, and waterfalls, is a great place for camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, picnicking, and more.

Ocmulgee National Monument
The Ocmulgee National Monument is dedicated to the 12,000 years of human habitation in the Macon area. Earthen mounds and a ceremonial lodge are available for viewing. Visitors can learn about the Native American Indians who inhabited this area and the Civil War battles that took place here.

Callaway Gardens
North of Columbus, on Pine Mountain, is a popular leisure center established by the industrialist Cason Callaway, with artificial lakes, gardens of magnolias and azaleas, and a butterfly house. Robin Lake, which hosts the annual Masters Waterski and Wakeboard Tournament, offers a great opportunity to participate in watersports.
