Places to see in ( Warminster - UK )

Warminster is a town and civil parish in western Wiltshire, England, by-passed by the A36 and the partly concurrent A350 between Westbury and Blandford Forum. The River Were runs through the town and can be seen running through the middle of the town park. The Minster Church of St Denys sits on the River Were. The name Warminster first occurs in the early 10th century.

Warminster is located in south-west Wiltshire, near to the Somerset border. The town is surrounded by six hills, providing shelter and security for early settlers. The area is made up of chalk, which provides good drainage to the nearby River Wylye, providing plenty of arable and pasturable land near to the village. The Wylye is a tributary of the River Avon. Warminster is also close to Selwood Forest.

As Warminster is in an area of fertile land, much of its early economy was through farming, especially corn. William Daniell commented in 1879 that Warminster lay 'in the midst of a fine corn-country', and Warminster's market provided the backbone of the economy through the 16th to 19th centuries. Warminster's clothing trade suffered greatly in the early 19th century, as there was no suitable river to power machinery during a period of industrialisation.

Warminster has a number of local venues which facilitate cultural events for the community. This includes a library, museum, five theatres and cinemas, eleven halls and a number of pubs. There are many festivals and events held annually within the area including Warminster festival, Vintage bus run and heritage open days. Warminster is twinned with Flers in France.

Close by to Warminster is stately home Longleat, which has included Longleat Safari Park since 1966; the first drive-through safari park outside Africa, home to over 500 animals, including giraffe, monkeys, rhino, lion, tigers and wolves. The town includes a theatre, the Warminster Athenaeum, an 1858 Grade II listed building. The Warminster Lake Pleasure Grounds were laid out in 1924 and facilities include tennis courts, play area and boating lake. They were officially opened by the Marquess of Bath on Saturday 26 July 1924.

The east of the town is situated along the A36 road and the Warminster service station is on the route. The Warminster railway station, opened in September 1851, is managed by Great Western Railway

SALISBURY | One of The Most Beautiful Towns to Visit in England ???????????????????????????? | Stonehenge

SALISBURY | Most Beautiful Towns to Visit in England ????????????????????????????. One of the best places to visit in England is actually Salisbury. The cathedral city of Salisbury is steeped in history and is one of the finest tourist destinations in Wiltshire. one of the best attractions close to the city is Stonehenge.
The city retains much of its medieval centre, with a delightful market square and traditional shopping streets, which lead to the magnificent cathedral. Salisbury cathedral is visually stunning, the colossal spire stands at 123m, while the front façade is ornately carved. Housed in the cathedral is the world's oldest clock and the Magna Carta, an ancient 1215 charter that details the power and limits of the King.

Stourhead House and Gardens, April 2019, Stourton, nr Warminster, Wiltshire, England. (10 )

Stourhead House and Gardens, on the River Stour, Stourton, nr Warminster, Wiltshire, England, BA12 6QD
On the 2nd April I took a tour bus visit to this beautiful house and grounds. It lies in the seclusion of its own valley set in spectacular Gardens there is much to see on a day visit here. Stourhead was one of the first country villas to be built in the new Palladian style. The house was designed by Colen Campbell but Henry Hoare I unfortunately died the same year in which the house was completed. This Palladian villa style at Stourhead was constructed and then finished in 1725 and had taken four years to build. The land had previously been in the ownership of a family called Stourton’s and then Henry Hoare I, the new owner, pulled down the near derelict Stourton Manor to build his fashionable Palladian country house which was designed by the Scottish architect Colen Campbell.
A large lake is magnificent and is very important to the very essence of this splendid garden. Classical Temples adorn the grounds along with grottos and rare and exotic trees. Stourhead is at the very heart of a vast 1,072-hectare ( 2,650 acre ) estate where chalk downs, ancient woods and farmland are managed for nature conservation and perfect to explore. In 1902 a fire gutted the central part of the house resulting in the loss of all the furniture on the upper floors. By 1907 the restoration of the house was complete and in 1946 Stourhead was given to the National Trust.
It was once described as a living work of art by a magazine when it first opened its doors in the 1750’s. The careful consideration to the design by Henry Hoare 11 enabled the views to be almost unique just like scenes from a painting in landscape.
The Hoare family were very successful in the world of banking, which enabled them to buy Stourhead. Hoare’s Bank is the last independent bank and the Hoare family is still in charge and still running the bank today.

Gastronomically Good Gaffs: Wetherspoons, Bath Arms, Warminster

Gastronomically Good Gaffs: Wetherspoons, Bath Arms, Warminster. Have not been for a number of years and was more mobile then. Tried the lift, but it didn't work and we had difficulty getting out. Entry via the front and a step, but my sister dragged the scooter up. Later found out they have a ramp!

Food nothing special, came quickly, although the coffee cup didn't.

Britain’s currency is the pound sterling (£), which is divided into 100 pence (p).

Scotland has its own pound sterling notes. These represent the same value as an English note and can be used elsewhere in Britain. The Scottish £1 note is not accepted outside Scotland.

There are lots of bureaux de change in Britain – often located inside:

• banks
• travel agents
• Post Offices
• airports
• major train stations.

It's worth shopping around to get the best deal and remember to ask how much commission is charged.

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.
Anyone that has any questions, please feel free the comment below and I will answer them for you.
