In 1807, in Izhevsk was founded one of the biggest Arm plants in Russian Empire.
During WWII, being very far from the battlefront, Izhevsk became one of the towns where many plants and factories were evacuated. It is turned to be a driver for a significant development of Izhevsk. Since 1940’s the population of the town is grown up x10.
Now Izhevsk is the 20th biggest city in Russia which a population of 646,000 residents. Unofficially, Izhevsk is called the “defence capital of Russia” for the highest concentration of the defence enterprises in Russia.
Izhevsk is the motherland of world famous Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the most popular automatic riffle AK-47

Leaving Kungursky District in Perm Krai for Tatarstan, I ended up about 6 km outside of Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, in a small service area/gas station after approximately 800 km on the road.

Live stream exploring Votkinsk, the town in Udmurtia Republic of Russia, located in 52km north-east from Izhevsk.
Votkinsk was founded in 1759 by Countr Pyotr Shuvalov as iron-making plant on the bank of Votka river (tributary of Kama river).
In 1837, the head of Kama-Votka district and Votkinsk Plant became Ilya Tchaikovsky. Together with his wife, Alexandra, they lived in the state mansion for the heads of Votkinsk plant.
Ilya and Alexandra Tchaikovsky lived there for 11 years during which their four kids were born. One of them was Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the world famous Russian composer. Born at the 7th of May, 1840.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky was born and lived for his first 8 years of life in Votkinsk. Himself he described the days in Votkinsk as the “joyful period”.
The Museum-Estate of Tchaikovsky is now the main sightseeing in Votkinsk, Russia.
Another interesting fact about Votkinsk is that the famous spire on the tower of Peter and Paul Church in Peter and Paul Cathedral of St Petersburg was forged in Votkinsk Plant.
