Welcome to Moscow Walking tour.Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street got its name from the locality Georgians, which arose on the site of the former palace settlement of Voskresenskoye. It was it that was presented to Vakhtang VI, the Georgian king. It happened in 1729, although the Georgians themselves had settled here long before that.
In the nineteenth century, part of the street from the current Barrikadnaya Street to the Georgian Square was called the Embankment. This was due to the fact that this section ran along the banks of the Presnya River.
Under Soviet rule, in the period from 1918 to 1924, Bolshaya Gruzinskaya was called Communist street.

Большая Грузинская улица получила свое название от местности грузин, возникшей на месте бывшего дворцового поселения Воскресенское. Именно его подарили грузинскому царю Вахтангу VI. Произошло это в 1729 году, хотя сами грузины поселились здесь задолго до этого.
В XIX веке часть улицы от нынешней Баррикадной улицы до Грузинской площади называлась Набережной. Это было связано с тем, что этот участок пролегал по берегу реки Пресни.
При советской власти в период с 1918 по 1924 годы Большая Грузинская называлась Коммунистической улицей.
