Villa D'Este Tivoli and Villa Adriana - A day tour from Rome #4k #gopro10 #insta360 #insta360oners

Two exceptional UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tivoli, near Rome, Italy: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa.

The Villa d'Este is one of the most remarkable and comprehensive illustrations of Renaissance culture at its most refined. Its innovative design along with the architectural components in the garden ( with hundreds of fountains, ornamental basins, etc.) make this a unique example of an Italian 16th-century garden. The Villa d'Este, one of the first Giardini delle meraviglie , was an early model for the development of European gardens.

Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana), was a retreat for the Roman Emperor Hadrian. it is an exceptional complex of classical buildings created in the 2nd century A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian.

❤There's no place like Italy.❤

Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy )

Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy )

Tivoli is situated on the Aniene river to the east of Rome, in the Monti Tiburtini hills where the climate is fresher than Rome's. For this reason, the area was popular from ancient times onwards with Rome's moneyed classes, who built summer retreats in the area. As the town was on a major trading route from Rome to the Abruzzi, Tivoli has always been an important settlement. Modern Tivoli has around 50,000 inhabitants, and spreads out far beyond the crumblingly picturesque historical centre. In the suburb of Bagni di Tivoli, on the plains below the town centre, it is still possible to bathe in natural thermal springs. The fourth century BC town wall is still visible, as are temples from the second century BC.

There is plenty to occupy the visitor in Tivoli for a day, even if they miss out one of the two famous villas. Travellers keen to see all the sights of the area should note that the Villa Adriana is actually a bus ride outside town; and they may find their day stretched to an uncomfortable length. Some visitors choose to stay in Tivoli, away from the bustle of Rome; if you are very keen on spending a long time at the monuments, or planning to travel onwards through Italy this may be an option worth considering.

The Renaissance Villa d'Este was built in the 1550s for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, the son of Lucretia Borgia. Built over a Benedictine convent, the palace was intended for entertaining and contains lavishly frescoed reception rooms. The main attraction for visitors, however, is the breathtaking garden. Designed to impress the Cardinal's guests, the Villa d'Este's gardens are composed almost exclusively of water features. Fountains of every description dazzle the onlooker, from the grand 'Fountain of the Dragons' and 'Hundred Fountains', to a miniature watery reproduction of Rome. The centrepiece, the gigantic Water Organ Fountain, cascades down a huge drop into quiet, shady pools.

For those with an interest in antiquities, the Villa Adriana is worth a day to itself. The Emperor Hadrian conceived a countryside dwelling here that would by normal standards be considered a town. A gigantic complex with underground service passages big enough for vehicles (tantalising glimpses are still visible), the Villa incorporates lakes, fountains, libraries, baths, temples and gardens. The area covered is staggering, and highly confusing even when armed with a map; it's easy to imagine the emperor himself asking for directions.

Villa Gregoriana is an impressive park set in a gorge with a 100m waterfall. The site has recently reopened to the public after restoration by the FAI (Italy's equivalent of the English National Trust, with free entry to NT members). It's a pleasant and shady place to ramble. Views over the gorge can be enjoyed from the Ponte Gregoriano.

Temple of Vesta and Temple of the Sybil - the characteristic round Temple of Vesta occupies a panoramic position above the valley of the Villa Gregoriana, about ten minutes' walk from the Villa d'Este. Ponte Gregoriano - there was a devastating flood in the 1800s; afterwards the river was diverted and this bridge was built. Tivoli Tourist Information Office is in Piazza Garibaldi close to the main bus stop and the Villa d'Este. Even if it's closed, you may be able to pick up maps and information.

( Tivoli - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Tivoli . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Tivoli - Italy

Hadrian's Villa tour - Villa Adriana - Tivoli - Day trips from Rome

Hadrian's villa tour - Villa Adriana - Tivoli - Day trips from Rome. Watch this video to understand what to see in Villa Adriana? What is Hadrian’s villa like? How long does it take to visit Hadrian’s villa? Is it worth a visit? How to get there? I answer all these questions and more!

The villa is very big; when searching for how big is Villa Adriana? Or, how big is Hadrian’s villa? Sources vary from 40 hectares to 80 hectares in size (or more!), because some count the places you can actually visit, others measure the sites within the villa that have been unearthed, while others count the original size of the place. One thing is for sure, it was huge.

There is a scale model of the Villa around the entrance, before you reach the Pecile and I recommend looking at it at the end of your visit so that you can spot the important sites:

Pecile / Pecile
Edificio con tre Esedre / Three exedras building
Piccole terme / Small baths
Grandi terme / Large baths
Canopo / Canopus
Serapeo / Serapeum
Pretorio / Praetorium
Cento camerelle / Hundred chambers
Terme con heliocaminus / Bath with heliocaminus
Edificio con pilastri dorici / Building with doric pillars
Palazzo / Palace
Piazza d’Oro / Golden square
Hospitalia / Hospitalia
Teatro marittimo / Maritime theater

What a trip! This was not just a villa, it was more like a small town!
Totally worth a visit, Villa Adriana. it is located 45 minutes from Rome by, car, bus or train (you rech Tivoli by train and then take a bus to Hadrian’s Villa), all within the Lazio region.

Topics covered here are related to travel in Italy, day trips from Italy from Rome and surrounding areas. Major Italian towns as well as small lesser known but charming Italian towns. If you plan on visiting Rome, Italy and have an extra half-day, definitely consider visiting this gem of a villa. Very historic and over 2,000 years old.

Living in Italy as a foreigner is a journey. Moving to Italy was a whole new experience for me. The many hidden gems and secrets, besides the food and the fabulous weather make Italy and its famous cities like Florence, Venice, Milan, Turin, Naples, Palermo, Catania, Bari, Lecce, Matera, Cagliari, Rimini, Siena, Bolgheri, Pisa, Parma, Salerno, Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Scalea, Tropea, Otranto and others, as well as the Rome surrounding towns, to be as attractive as ever. I am a Kenyan and an African living in Italy, which has its pros and cons, or advantages and disadvantages. Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy ) Villa Adriana

Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy ) Villa Adriana

Hadrian's Villa is a large Roman archaeological complex at Tivoli, Italy. It is the property of the Republic of Italy, and has been directed and run by the Polo Museale del Lazio since December 2014. The villa was constructed at Tibur (modern-day Tivoli) as a retreat from Rome for Roman Emperor Hadrian during the second and third decades of the 2nd century AD. Hadrian is said to have disliked the palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome, leading to the construction of the retreat. It was traditional that the Roman emperor had constructed a villa as a place to relax from everyday life, previous emperors and Romans with wealth such as Trajan had also constructed a villa. Many villas were also self-sustaining with small farms and did not need to import food.

During the decline of the Roman Empire in the 4th century, the villa gradually fell into disuse and was partially ruined as valuable statues and marble were taken away. The facility was used as a warehouse by both sides during the destructive Gothic War (535–554) between the Ostrogoths and Byzantines. Remains of lime kilns have been found, where marble from the complex was burned to extract lime for building material. In the 16th century, Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este had much of the remaining marble and statues in Hadrian's Villa removed to decorate his own Villa d'Este located nearby. Since that period excavations have sporadically turned up more fragments and sculptures, some of which have been kept in situ or housed on site in the display buildings.

Hadrian's Villa is a vast area of land with many pools, baths, fountains and classical Greek architecture set in what would have been a mixture of landscaped gardens, wilderness areas and cultivated farmlands. The buildings are constructed in travertine, brick, lime, pozzolana, and tufa. The complex contains over 30 buildings, covering an area of at least a square kilometre (250 acres) of which much is still unexcavated.

The site was chosen due to its abundant waters and readily available aqueducts that passed through Rome, including Anio Vetus, Anio Nobus, Aqua Marcia, and Aqua Claudia. The area was known as the location of villas before Hadrian obtained the property - it was, and still is, a picturesque area conveniently close to Rome but seemingly detached and separate. The villa was the greatest Roman example of an Alexandrian garden, recreating a sacred landscape.

Many beautiful artifacts have been unearthed and restored at the Villa, such as marble statues of Antinous, Hadrian's deified lover, accidentally drowned in Egypt, and mosaics from the theatre and baths. Artworks found in the villa include:

Discobolus
Dove Basin mosaic, copy of a famous Hellenistic mosaic, Capitoline Museums
Diana of Versailles, Louvre
Crouching Venus
Capitoline Antinous
Young Centaur and Old Centaur (Capitoline versions)

The famous Villas of TIVOLI | ROME | ITALY | PART 4

Today we will make you visit 2 of the most beautiful ancient villas in Italy: Villa Adriana and Villa d'este; both of which are declared as World Heritage site by UNESCO. So, if you decide to visit Rome, don't forget to have a spare day to visit Tivoli, where you'll discover breath-taking fountains as well as magnificent gardens. If you are fond of historical art museum then it's a plus point since you'll have to visit the villas first before entering the impressive and yet large gardens of the villas.

Tivoli a day trip from Rome - A virtual tour of the beautiful town of Tivoli near Rome

Villa D'Este Tivoli and Villa Adriana in Tivoli are simply spectacular. We start our tour of Tivoli from Rome by car. Tivoli is located about 30 minutes outside Rome. Once in Tivoli we start our tour from the magnificent Villa D'Este, also known as the Villa of thousand fountains.

Here's some top things to do in Rome:

Villa D'Este in Tivoli was built by the Cardinal Ippolito D'Este in 1569. Cardinal D'Este was the brother of the Duke of Ferrara and the grandson of Pope Alexander the VI Borgia. Villa D'Este in Tivoli is famous for its magnificent gardens. In order to supply the water for the fountains of Villa D'Este the engineers diverted the river Aniene.

After visiting Villa D'Este we stopped for a local lunch, and then we went to explore the amazing ruins of Villa Adriana. This was the private residence of Emperor Adrian. The Villa is huge, with lakes, pools, baths, and statues. To visit the whole complex, it takes about two hours.

We are two Canadians currently living in Italy. We moved to Italy in November 2018 to start a new chapter of our life's and we would like to share our story with. We hope you enjoy it.

About us:
In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists – but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.

After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew – and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.
