This Is The REAL Maldives | Local Island Villingili Day Tour ????????⛱
In this video, we are taking you to the local island Villingili, or Vilimale island to see the real maldives and see how the locals lives their life and explore the local island environment.
Maldives is everyone’s dream holiday destination, with lots of luxury hotels and resorts. If you just come here for luxury holiday and want to relax and wind down in the resort, yes, please go straight to the private islands where all the resorts are. However, we did it differently, we wanted to know the real Maldives, and wanted to see the culture, how the people live their life here.
There is a local island called Villingili island, also known as Vilimale island, its only 10 mins ferry ride from the west end of Male city ferry terminal. The island is small, you can walk the entire island within 15 mins, it’s quiet, and very green, and very environmentally friendly, no petrol car, their motor bike and council cars run on the batteries.
We planned to have lunch there, however, we did not find the food we like, as we only saw two coffee shops, with limited food selections. So we ended up having lunch back at the hotel.
Overall, it’s nice, quiet island, I even feel the simpleness of their life. No modern shops, nothing, pure village lifestyle. I cannot imagine myself live there, but somehow you feel the peacefulness and simpleness. I think the people might live longer life due to the stress-free environment.
If you haven’t checked my other Maldives travel videos, please feel free to have a look. We stayed in Male city for 4 nights, and 4 nights at Coco Bodu Hithi, totally enjoyed it.

Villingili also known as Villimale' is an inhabited island near to the capital Male'. It would take about 10 minutes to travel from Male' to Villingili. The place is very calm and less crowded compare to Male', the capital of Maldives.
There are many locals and expatriates working in the Maldives living in this island. This island has a beautiful public beach, public hospital and all basic facilities.
Ferry charges to travel from Male' to Villingili is MRF 5. You cannot travel from the airport to Villingili directly.
To travel to Villingili from Male', you need to use the Villingili jetty which is near to the IGMH hospital. You can also view the Dhiraagu head office and Dharumavantha Hospital
History of Villingili / Villimale'
Villimale' used to be a resort earlier before it became a residential island. In fact it became the second resort to start operations in Maldives, after the first resort in Maldives, Kurumba became over-booked.
Currently - There are several hotels and guest houses in Villimale' that also attract tourists from abroad.
